Post Production week 4 Time to shine - colour management
What is gamut ? Complete range of colours
What is colour space? a system that uses a specific color model. RGB (red/green/blue) is based on light, and its used in digital processes. CMYK (or Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black) is used in the four-color printing process.
What two colours space do most DSRL cameras offers? The most commonly used working colour spaces for photography are sRGB and Adobe RGB
What colour space can most computer monitors display? the international sRGB standard prepared in 1998
If you switch from sRGB to Adobe RGB on your camera what colours will you see an improvement in? Lightness and Saturation
When you change the colour space in photoshop what does it do? Change in lightness and saturation
Name a larger colour space than Adobe RGB? ProPhoto RGB.
What can happen to a digital image if you map colours to a really large colour space? Saturation and lightness will increase.

Biodiversity research
The variety of living creatures on Earth, from the smallest insect to the largest mammal or tree, is referred to as biodiversity. It includes the variance among species as well as the complexities of the habits found where they are found. However, biodiversity is also about people and how we use and share the environment with other living beings.
Garry Winogrand Ethan and Laurie Winogrand, New York. (kids playing on fence) 1961
Visual - the formal elements; Focus: I would say the focus mainly is on a boy, but the whole image is in focus. Light : Day light, coming from above a little to the right, as we observe a shadow next to animals. People are in a shadow probably under tree or a building, middle of day. Repetition: there is harmony in this image, the repetition of two, two children, two adults, and two animals all next to each other. Shallow depth of field. In the foreground are placed people, middle ground animals, background bushes, and building; There is more positive spaces than negative space. Colour: black and white image imitate and draw more attention to want is happening on a photograph, and also to fact that the photograph was captured in 1961; I think that the colours help to understand the subject. Tone: there is a range of tones. The largest contrast between the darkest and lightest parts are next to the animals - between shadow and a sand.
Typology research
Why is the camera (and photography) particularly well-suited to the creation of typologies? It depicts a study or interpretation of specific themes. A typology might show a single object or many different things. Why might artist/photographers be interested in creating typologies of things? The artist may choose to embrace typology, because it is organised form of showing their work; most artists find it appealing as a means to elegantly show their work. Artists can demonstrate connections between the things they choose in their typology. What issues or problems might you anticipate in setting out to create a photographic typology? Artists could end up facing lighting or scenario issues; different times of day or weather will result in different lighting, and the background of the objects they wish to photograph may be busy or incoherent to other images.
Andy Hughes Research
For almost thirty years Andy Hughes has been making images along various coastlines. It was in the late 1980s when he started photographing various items of trash along the intertidal zone. As a young art student, Hughes recalls seeing the exhibition Rubbish and Recollections, by Keith Arnett, co-organised by a renascent Oriel Mostyn, Llandudno and the Photographers’ Gallery, London. The content both inspired him and connected to his experiences living and surfing in South Wales. Between 1999 and 2006 Hughes was consumed by making images of the plastic waste matter that came to rest along the beaches where he surfed, the results of his project were published in the groundbreaking book 'Dominant Wave Theory'.
Macro Photography research
The phrase "macro photography" is commonly used to describe any photograph that depicts a close-up and incredibly detailed image of a small subject. The art of making small objects appear life-size or larger is known as macro photography. It can show small objects with remarkable detail that the naked eye or a conventional lens cannot. These kinds of shots can be difficult to take - but they're also extremely addictive. Reversing lens One method of approaching reverse lens macro photography is to attach the lens directly to the camera using a reversing ring designed specifically for this purpose. A reversing ring is a thin metal ring that allows you to attach your lens to your camera body the incorrect way around.
Close up Lens A close-up lens (also known as a close-up filter or a macro filter) is a simple secondary lens used in photography to enable macro photography without the need for a specialised primary lens. They function similarly to reading glasses, allowing a primary lens to focus more closely.
Extension Tubes An extension tube is a hollow tube that fits between your lens and your camera's body. An extension tube is a piece of equipment that connects your camera body to your lens. There is no glass involved because it is not an optical element. All it does is move the lens away from the focal plane. They enable you to focus on subjects closer to the camera and achieve higher magnification. The versatility of extension tubes allows you to use them with any of your lenses. If you buy a set, you can connect two extension tubes to get even more magnification. The only disadvantage of using extension tubes is that some light is lost.
Macro Lens A macro lens is a lens that allows you to focus in close and capture a lot of detail in your photos. It is defined by its ability to replicate an image on the sensor that is the same size as it is in real life.
The Bellows The accordion-like, pleated expandable component of a camera, usually a large or medium format camera, that allows the lens to be moved with regard to the focal plane for focusing is known as a bellows in photography. Enlargers employ bellows as well. To reduce the minimum focusing distance and boost your reproduction ratio, use a flexible instrument that adds distance between a lens and your camera body.
