2015 is off to a pretty good start. Thankful for all the crazy times last year that brought me to this place - the sad and the bad, the happy and the good. Thankful for the wonderful people and places that have come into my life, and even more grateful for those that have stuck through things with me. Happy to greet a new year, and slough off last year's skin by rolling around in the sand and the surf with some wonderful people. Bless. (at Casa Brian)

#spanishwordoftheday is mojada. We took a terrifying boat ride across the Gulf of Fonseca. The little lancha we were on was barely the size of the waves we were going through. But, we made it alive, though soaked to the bone and with fingers that hurt because of gripping the seats so hard. Felt like riding a roller coaster or the log ride... If I wasn't so afraid of capsizing or falling overboard it would have been fun! The smiles on our faces were enormous when we finally made it to land. How did you spend your boxing day? Today is the most rain yet. kinda hard to see the rivers streaming off the roof and the rain bouncing off the road, but we hid inside for hours after the Spanish class info session. Not pictured: the thunder and lightening.

Some unsolicited map advice: add a legend, ocean and the surrounding countries. A legend would be the most important one!

Ah yes, thanks. I'm actually a professional cartographer, so I get to break the rules when I make personal maps. ;)But, in case others are having trouble interpreting, darker = higher/greater/more. Didn't break that rule.

so, I was reading CBC's article about a comprehensive list of missing or dead women in Canada. the data is available online, so grabbed it, and mapped it.

First map: where the total number of missing and murdered women are found. BC and Ontario: pretty awful. But hey, they have lots of people, right? let's try normalizing this...
