Independent Vampire OC with Original Lore
He's taken a bit of a fall from grace and works as a waiter at a supernatural catering restaurant.
He wasn't asked. Abydos just took him and he couldn't do anything about it. Except try to talk his wife around into joining him. Not that she did.
Smarter than him. Or less encumbered by whatever darkness of the soul came with the condition.
There's solace in numbers. Nice and neat. Count the cans. Count the tills. Count, count, count.
He couldn't serve tables worth a damn. That became quickly apparent to everyone. When he was at the Rookery, he hid. When he was at home, he hid.
Every security was gone.
Abydos stole him and his life off the a fucking street that was three layers of civilization deep by now and he didn't seem to even care what was being done to him. Not that he'd ever cared. He was a curious beauty to the vampire and never had been much more than that. A thing to have and use and show off on the mantle. Maintained no longer.
There was too much blood and warmth in his veins and it was too easy to feel.
He went back home and stayed there. Counted book so the shelves there every time he had an uncomfortable emotion until it stopped.
How absolutely delightful! Jim remembered what it had felt like. Being turned against his will, and then the inevitable antidote he had willingly taken for Sherlock. Neither experiences were very pleasant, but he and the detective had a way to block out most pain through sheer mental will.
Watching Jericho agonize over it was cathartic. And knowing why Jericho was stuck on the ground just absolutely tickled him! Jim bounced on his heels, resisting the urge to clap and draw more attention.
"The lamb is on me. You look famished, darling."
Moriarty returned to his booth and went to sip at his tea. "Bring me the bill when you can."
Jericho hissed back and shot one hell of a murderous stare between hair strands--then his eyes started to water so he shifted to turn his head away. Sensible to know, now that things had ebbed off, he couldn't lunge at Jim. Much as he STILL wanted to claw the man's eyes out. The wards, he knew, wouldn't let him.
He also refused to fucking crawl. So he made his ungainly way across the table floor in a crouched stumble until he made it into the kitchen.
He was caught by co-workers back there with a collective gasp and ensemble of commotion that last several minutes. Then quiet. While the figured out what to do about this. Stowed Jericho away, protectively, into Rook's currently unoccupied office.
Another waitress came out with a to-go bag and dropped it in front of him unceremoniously. Glaring fiercely. "Get out. Rook will let you know if you're banned."
Jim was hardly surprised by the answer, or even particularly offended by the suicide pact comment. It was any wonder why either of them found the effort to keep on going. A mystery yet to be fully solved.
But sometimes it was the little things. Jim went to move as if he was ready to sip from his tea, but his hand went lower to curl around the syringe as Jericho finally turned around. Timing it accordingly as he was sure the vampire wasn't suspecting anything. Because Jim wasn't going to draw attention to himself with a little monologue.
He'd do that after he sank the antidote into Jericho's neck. Standing up silently and quickly, he made to jam it directly where the prominent vein should be. "Your daddy dearest agreed with me that you need a change in perspective," he purred, pressing down on the injection.
The Ward did nothing to stop it -though Jim wasn't entirely sure if things would go awry once the pain settled in. But surely, the sign of a heart beat being returned should be seen as acceptable.
He wasn't. The wards made him somewhat complacent. If he was on grounds, he was reasonably sure he wouldn't be in danger. It was part of the reason he'd even taken up the position. For the neutral protection while he did...whatever it was he was doing.
And his calm/friendly pheromone aura tended to keep the peace around him beyond that.
He couldn't really anticipate how a cured member of the species might be resistant or sensitive to anything post revival.
The wards didn't really understand much about the situation. Could be medicine? It was probably medicine. Like insulin. It's not exactly built to discern more than harmful intent and obvious weapons and deadly toxins. And an undead having living respirations was not exactly an indication of danger??? The air was heavy with confused magic, but nothing was happening yet.
Jericho, on the other hand, lashed out violently and immediately once he'd caught up to what was happening a fraction of a second after the plunger was pressed. Before Jericho could land a blow, the ward shoved him down hard into the floor and held him there. Wide-eyed and holding in a scream of pain directly after.
Pins and needles of a deadened limb waking up times a thousand and everywhere all at once. Choked on a few breathes that his revived nervous system forced while perspiration came back along with color to his skin and eyes. Frantic and expressing quite a lot of fear and panic. Anyone would under that kind of pain and the invisible pressure of force the ward was exerting to keep him from trying to scratch Jim's eyes out.
He made so little sound, the other staff didn't notice the change happening.
When the pain ebbed, he curled up onto his knees and kept his forehead to the floor. Arms wrapped around his stomach as the hunger pangs made him feel down right nauseous. He hadn't fed in at least a month and it translated into him being revived with the sensation of someone starved half to death. He wasn't used to that. Or how hot he felt all over. Breathe ragged.
Jim's little crow feet about his eyes crinkled a little with his smile - would have been rather annoyed if the spill had been more, but it was a smart move on her part.
"I always get what I want one way or another," he hummed back, watching her go. He did in fact know of that incident. Jericho really had dug his own grave - not that Jim wasn't in the same boat. Plenty of enemies in his life that he's made.
But unlike Jericho, M was still on top.
Speaking of...
Moriarty enjoyed the floral scent that wafted from the tea, and while he hadn't really delved into the menu, the recommendation would be an easy enough choice to get this done and over with. Jim wasn't really all that hungry, but if he managed to get a to-go bag, he could bring it to Moran later.
"Rook always had good taste. I will have the lamb, then." He folded the menu to hand it back to Jericho. "Ah, and I must say, you don't seem very surprised to see me after these few years. Then again, time is rather different for you, isn't it."
Jericho jotted the order down. Small creative liberty on the sides. While unlicking pen and and tucking it away, he allowed himself a slow blink that lead to staring steady at Jim.
"Time is different." He agreed. "You were becoming a fixture, but now you'll be dead before I know it." It was spoken plain and lacking his usual attempt at social pleasantries. He'd been withered down for a while and he felt it. Wasn't a malicious statement, just a cold one. He felt empty. He acted the part. "You and that pet detective of yours. If anything, I'm surprised you two haven't completed a suicide pact." He then inclined his head. "I will put the order in." And turned to do so.
"I did say I'd wait a day or two." He sighed, leaning back in his booth before lifting his hands up a bit, giving in. Jim took one of the little cocktail napkins and scribbled it down the name with a pen.
Who know who could be listening in, after all. And much as he kept things encrypted in texts, paranormal fiddling was also always a possibility.
Jerimiah Mittelman.
"There. Now let me have my very important tea time." He waved her away with a snort.
She took a look at the napkin before accidentally knocking over the curtesy cup of water nearby to bleed the ink out and ruin the note. Fast enough to catch it so it didn't cover the whole table.
"Thanks." Actually sounded honest about that. Making sure he heard it. Then stood up and pat his shoulder with a quieter. "Gettem." About Jericho and headed out of the restaurant with the same swiftness she'd arrived. He probably heard about The Hole by now. Her encouragement shouldn't be a surprise, nor her meaning.
Jericho had to linger with his efforts another minute or so before he came over to give him the delicate, floral decorated, cup on a matching saucer. "Have you thought about your meal choices? The owner did leave us with a superb lamb rack dish if you're indecisive."
"Right away." Jericho plastered on a smile. Something the other coworkers had really impressed on him was necessary. Even if he could manipulate people with chemicals and mind control. Was is like seeing a death mask? Maybe.
Jericho could mimic mortal human expressions, he just choose not to most of the time. So have that smile and be happy with it.
He was also being GOOD and not throwing anything at Moriarty to try and meddle with anything that might be residual from siring him previously. He's not reformed, alright, just...laying off the gas pedal for a while. Recovery. He was going to live, theoretically, forever. He could take a few resting decades if he wanted.
He departed Moriarty to go to the brewing station typically manned by another person. She wasn't present today. Jericho knew how to make good tea--he just took longer than she would. While he was doing that...
Devang came strutting into the Rookery with and got obnoxious on her way to sitting across from him. Ignoring everything he seemed to up to. Only running stare over the objects a fraction of a second long enough to determine it wasn't anything for her, specifically, to care about. "Haaaaay, sister-friend!"
Then produced her phone to show him the picture Vox had sent to her. "This close enough? And!" She pointed at him. "How did you even know to look for him? I mean...You'd have to have a demon you have tea with on the regular. Minimum. To know Lu went missing."
Jim eyed Devang like he was looking at the most infuriating thing on the planet for interrupting him on his very obvious lunch break that he was using to GET REVENGE ON A VERY IMPORTANT VAMPIRE THAT HAD FUCKED OVER HIS LIFE. Could this not wait??? A second???
But he schooled his expression with a head tilt, swallowing down that anger as he sealed that mentally away. Right, the devil problem. They were at least closer to the answer the last time he checked with her.
Jim's smile turned smug as he rested his chin in his hand, elbow on the table. Terrible table manners but he had yet to be served, so who cared. He flicked his eyes over the painting and hummed the jeopardy theme. Correct!
"That's confidential, my dear. But I do make crossroad deals for information, so I don't know why you're so surprised."
He kept an eye out for Jericho's return. "Now could you please scatter, I have a matter to attend to."
Good, he should! She'd given him the same eyeball before. Fair is fair! HEy, buddy, I know you LOVE my face!
"Yeah, fine, you right." Satisfied her personal curiosity enough. She could tuck 'likes to cavort with demons' to her mental file on Moriarty and move along with her life.
"Name, I need a name. Then you can go back to whatever you are doing." She wasn't about to announce, but she also wasn't invested it protecting Jericho for obvious reasons. "And I can go back to what I'm doing, too." Hardly the only one with MATTERS to ATTEND, Jim.
Jericho was loosely listening. Sort of like listening to people talk on a nearby TV without really paying attention. There's a certain amount of trained in sense deadening that happens when you can hear a mouse fart three rooms away. The kettle he had put on started to whistle and he removed it to pour and wait for the pre-mix specialty tea leaves to steep.
[txt] than i am fine with the humbling rofl
Abydos wasn't perfectly aligned with the times at a given moment, but he tried.
It was enough. Knowing it was there to begin with. Given it was a Sunday night, it wasn't horridly busy. Night crew was mostly attending to other night-creatures, stocking, and cleaning. The windows had the protective treatment for vampires, but Jericho was also prone to not sleeping. He spent a lot of time in the reasturant.
And, luck would have it, he was the fucking waiter that came wandering over. Stare sharp, but general aura implying calm and friendly (very helpful in keeping difficult customers from screaming at staff like Karens). With his little name tag of '💙Jeri 💙'. He was beloved by the other staff for this built in feature of his.
"What can I get for you, Mister Moriarty?" He kept any other emotion right off his face. Dead and stoney.
Jim kept a tiny little smirk in the corner of his mouth in amusement to Abydos' response and put his mobile away in time for Jericho to show up in the flesh.
His dark eyes seemed to light up with mirth, though he kept himself collected otherwise. "Been a while...Jeri," he added once looking over the detailed name tag.
"I'll have oolong tea for now," he said while absently glancing over the menu in his hand.
He would wait for Jericho's return with the coffee, taking the time between to prepare the syringe. At first he had been worried about the pheromones and traces of being a former underling of Jericho's. But this should work. A loophole in the wards.

Jim grinned as he watched Sherlock by the corner of his eye before slipping into his car, driving to the nearest Gate. Glad those were working again at least. It was time to go to the Rookery.
He spared a glance at the text and chuckled to himself.
[txt] I'd much rather watch him flounder about
With that out of the way, he stood in front of the building's glamour shield before making his way forward. He could sort of See through it, given all that he'd been through, so it was fine. He was Aware of it and that was enough.
The best possibility was if he had Jericho as his waiter.

"Fair enough. Though I do hope you'll put out some of my favorite flowers for me in tribute." Hand left Sherlock's head to pet his cheek a little more flirtatiously before heading out the door.
"It was the dog, by the way~," about one of the cases. Just to fuck with Sherlock. Did it really? Maybe. Maybe not.
He pulled out his mobile on the way out, finding Abydos' contact with an internal sigh. Really didn't like dealing with that sordid past, but he was getting back into it, himself.
[txt] So I see Jericho's in a bit of retirement now
[txt] I think it'd be beneficial for all of us if I make it a little more permenant

God, you're such a dickhead! He'd started to lull slightly out of his irritableness at the brief attention before he was whiplashed right back into being CRANKY AND NOW FURIOUS. fUCK. He threw his hands up and stormed his way off the roof back into the flat. Now he had to SEE IF JIM WAS BEING SERIOUS OR EVEN MORE OF A KNOBHEAD!
It would, at least, keep him busy for a few hours. One way or the other.
Abydos, still at his nightclub, took a few minutes to notice the notification. The loud music tended to drown it out even with sensitive ears. Another few minutes were spent going over pros and cons while he got himself a drink at the bar and flirted around with a dour looking customer.
[txt] so long as you don't plant to kill him on top of it
He could change him again once he felt Jericho had learned his lessons about being over ambitious and obsessive. The man had thoroughly attracted all the wrong kinds of attention with his behavior the last century or so.
Jim hummed at that before dramatically rolling his eyes. Campy bitch that he was. "Ugh, why can't they just be like Nosferatu and not give a fuck? They didn't pick up much of a fuss when we cured ourselves." But, he supposed, they had been 'young'. A few years isn't much in the scheme of things. Jericho was bloody ancient.
"I'll talk to the old bastard as a curtesy, nothing more." Jim would bring his hand up to ruffle Sherlock's hair to be more a pain in the arse. He hated rules that weren't his own. They're all stupid.
"I don't think they're totally against free will." He rolled his eyes for different reasons; namely that Jim could be insufferable from time to time. No, he wasn't exaggerating, you are.
Sherlock almost said 'good enough' before he was getting his hair pet like a dog. "If you don't reappear in a month, I'll right you off as dead."
Translation: Don't die, I'd be cross about it.
Sherlock didn't care for rules that much either. He just had a different lean of the 'tism than Moriarty did. More of a sense of justice, maybe.
They are so old. But Jim still looks great! All dressed up and slicked back hair. But Sherlock was, admittedly, rather cute in that mussed up sort of way. Jim didn't let his eyes linger for too long, though. He had plans to get to. No distractions!
"Ouch, that stings. And here I thought me showing back up would lift your spirits. But I guess I really have ruined regular cases for you. Poor thing."
He pocketed the serum in a little syringe and needle case before walking over to properly greet Sherlock and his worries. "Glad you figured it out already. Though I doubt I'd need to talk to him, given how shunned Jericho is already. But I suppose I will, if it'll make you stop pouting."
"Put it lightly, why don't you." He grumbled and skulked a few steps away from the doorway after getting shark-eyed at. That always meant one of two things and he didn't feel like blushing about one of them. He was irritable! And he would stay that way, thank you.
He sniffed once and kept his arms crossed while Jim spoke. "You never did bother to read that book of customs they have so I wouldn't expect you to remember the elders get tetchy when you rogue one of their kind without discussion. We're squishy again, if you've forgotten." He would pout as much as his heart desired.
Jim did a mental clock of timing how long it'd take for Sherlock to show up by the time he had undone the lock and procured the vial. He held it delicately between his fingers and turned around to greet his rival with a flourish, teeth flashing white as he smiled.
"Ten minutes. You're getting slow with age. Also you look like shite."
Typical greeting.
Turned his whole nose up with the usual imperious flare. Humph.
He'd seen enough to figure something out by now. "If you're going after Jericho, you should talk to Abydos first, old man."
'AS IF THEY WEREN'T BOTH FUCKING OLD, shut up.
"You know how it is. It gets slow. And dull. And boring. No thanks to you." Mister Hanging Low.
@sanguineplutocrat
It had been some time since he'd paid a visit to Sherlock's little 'lab'. Not that he had much reason to most of the time, save boredom. But it had been years of stewing in what to do about a little 'problem' that needed 'fixing'. One could argue that his former vampire master had suffered quite enough in his own fall but...had he really?
Jim fiddled amusedly with a beaker before he spotted the locked fridge containing the 'antidote', as it were, for their former vampirism. Surely he kept more than one vial still. One shouldn't be missed.
Could he simply ask for one? Sure. But when had the consulting criminal ever cared about taking the boring path?
It'd be more fun if Sherlock somehow noticed he'd broken in. Although Moriarty had been very careful not to set any alarm systems off.
If there was a camera or two, he perhaps let one stay, just so he could wink at it.
Sherlock was an absolute mess of a man as always. Particularly when he was between cases. All he'd done to make a laboratory the first time was take over most of the kitchen in the flat. By this time, though, he'd acquiesced to certain nagging individuals and had a small rooftop structure built to become the new personal lab.
Which complicated security a LITTLE. In that Jim was perfectly capable of sneaking his skinny ass up some stairs and to the roof access door to get to the laboratory-hut situation. Terrible thing was that Sherlock wasn't much TRYING to make it a Fort Knox.
He did have the lock and the cameras, but that as negligible between rivals. He got one whole motion alert from the still functional camera and popped up from his couch rotting. Excuse you. Gave screen a faint scowl to Jim's wink. Arse.
Then started a some swiftly ran deductions on what Moriarty was up to. Sneaking in his lab and trying to steal from the fridge. There were antidotes in there. To both that monster virus and the vampirism. But the virus had not broken back out to his knowledge and anyone worth while to cure was cured. So? What? Money?
He threw off his blanket and tugged his robe closed to go investigate. Taking his time to appear in the doorway of the building Jim was in. Squinting. Glaring to demand some kind of final information point that would solve the curiosity of it all. Without outright asking. That would be too much for his ego in the moment.
Vox would store that information somewhere safe while simultaneously listening into the conversation Irene was having with 'Jean'. Matched up, so if anything, he could pass on to Irene that she was speaking the truth if Jericho's words could be trusted.
"I'm surrounded by plenty who should be able to read it," he muttered upon retrieving his phone back. Not that he looked forward to having a conversation with Reginald, but if he wanted to make progress here... "Whoever ordered the person to make it also knew about me. So it's likely they know about you too." A little warning in exchange, he supposed.
"You're off the hook for now." Unfortunately. Oh, well. He needed to make a visit to the other hell now.
Jericho folded his hands and inclined his head. "I will speak with Rook and advise him. He will likely recommend I stay home for the duration." He could only assume Rook didn't want things to track their way into the restaurant due to his presence.
He wasn't a good guy by an stretch, but he wasn't currently making Problems like he used to. Though he didn't have the same financial and political holdings, he still had people that Did Not Like Him.
"Too kind, too kind." A bare HINT of a smirking smile for Vox there. He knew why suspicions jumped to him. He wasn't in the business of denial.
Vox scowled at the hand swatting but let it be for now. He eventually pulled out his phone with a huff as he pulled up the digital photos he'd taken of the summoning circle - visually taken from his point of view and perfect memory when he'd shown up. Should give Jericho decent enough angles to go off of.
"Lucifer has a habit of being able to break out of these, but he wouldn't have just left Duncan behind and gone radio silent."
Vox didn't really see the use of summon circles on his side of things - sinner demons weren't exactly known topside to be summoned at all. He couldn't base a judgment on whether this was something super special or a common one in design.
Pale stare went to the screen before he slowly--very slowly for him--took the phone to hold it himself and go through the images more critically.
He didn't do a ton of demon summoning himself, but he'd used metals and sigils and blood in a different combination himself. A feather he'd bartered for that had come form Lucifer too.
"Circles are always present. I've not seen brass used before. That's...specific." He told Vox without looking up. "It's usually something like gold or iron. Silver. Precious metals. Copper, even. Depending on what you want to do." He didn't know why brass. He gave the phone back and pointed at the symbols. "That is a form of very ancient Hebrew script. I don't know how to read it--I'd only seen it a handful of times when I was freshly turned and traveling with my sire. The documents were old even then."
