The most under appreciated part of Yan Wushi’s character is the fact he’s a father in everything but name.

He didn’t just train Bian Yanmei, he was solely responsible for raising him (if the ‘Bian Yanmei had been taught and raised completely by Yan Wushi). Bian Yanmei, if I remember correctly, even admits to seeing him as a father.

Yu Shengyan is less direct but he entered Yan Wushi’s care at only seven, and I doubt he treated him all that differently from Bian Yanmei

They both get so excited anytime they see him it’s funny and cute. You’d think that someone like Yan Wushi would foster an intense environment of fearful respect but both his disciples clearly show a deep level of admiration, affection, and care for their Shizun.

It’s not one sided either. Yan Wushi is somewhat harsh and comments multiple times about how they fail to keep up and aren’t worthy.

But in private he also praises their virtues to Shen Qiao. He calls them ‘my orphans’ (as in if he dies he’s leaving them orphaned). He’s worried about how they will navigate the world without him, despite them both being frighteningly powerful in their own right.

It’s explicitly mentioned that everyone around him is either a rival or an insect aside from his disciples. Man went through 5 volumes of growth to realize Shen Qiao was an exception to this rule so to say his disciples also qualify under a special exemption means they must be very very special to him indeed.

None of this is new information but I had to ramble about it anyway cause I am obsessed.

Dad Wushi is REAL, I love him and Shen Qiao and their blended family with 5 adopted children
