sometimes i forget my old friend tumblr's still here
what’s this emotional commotion? feels like i’m drowning in an ocean of potent potions, stirring notions welling up inside, yelling “fight!” but in my mind the dude abides and thoughts subside. one by one dropping now, falling down. Fuck, i’m almost feeling proud.
some of the purpliest purple i've ever purpled #weed
this existence’s persistent, but my mind unravels while i astral travel. dreaming of unity, like some tower of babel. I’m a babbling brook, or a god damn rambling book. sit, stop and think while sin bubbles out the brim. hard to love life when shit looks this grim, but i gotta admit i love looking at death’s grin. so sitting here i peer in, look inside to find my mind, lying lost in time. or maybe i'm lying, i lost my mind. hehe harhar, think i took it too far, so i drop another bar. just a bit of insanity so i can make some fans of me

i was hesitant to upload this, but hey. just my thoughts take them with a grain of salt
why i think you should post original content
if all you do is reblog, then your blog is only as interesting as the blogs you follow. i could just as easily follow all the blogs you follow and cut out the middle man
THIS WOMAN. YES. Spot, fucking on dude.
people who see gatsby's green light as a metaphor for 'daisy's love' lack imagination
fitzgerald’s closing remarks:
“Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther… . And then one fine morning—
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
as far as i can tell, most people argue that this green light, or orgastic future, that carraway is referencing is either daisy or the american dream.
i think it’s neither.
i think fitzgerald had a deeper message in mind.
i think the green light represents the broader idea of illusions. whether it be our perception of what love ought to look like, the american dream (materialism), our idea of “safety”, or other socially constructed notions. instead of coming to terms with the chaotic nature of reality(the current beating against the boat) we strive endlessly for ever receding illusions in the distance.
which i guess leads me to a point i didn’t intentionally plan on writing about, but i see the entire novel as an allegory for life, or reality. nick carraway learns, and can teach us an important lesson. “I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life” i want you to focus on the ‘inexhaustible variety of life’ part for a second.
/ˌinigˈzôstəbəl/
Adjective
(of an amount or supply of something) Unable to be used up because existing in abundance: “his inexhaustible energy”.
/vəˈrīətē/
Noun
The quality or state of being different or diverse; the absence of uniformity, sameness, or monotony
nick discovers the inexhaustible variety, or infinite flux that life, or reality, really is. he extends his awareness outside of himself just long enough to notice the universe(beating current) and it is this awareness (being within and without) that we can all stand to learn from.
we see gatsby in his youth, as a young man full of potential:
“The truth was that Jay Gatsby, of West Egg, Long Island, sprang from his Platonic conception of himself. He was a son of God—a phrase which, if it means anything, means just that—and he must be about His Father’s business, the service of a vast, vulgar, and meretricious beauty. So he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end.”
so gatsby on some level as a youth understood bits and pieces of the implications of the inexhaustible variety of life, created in his mind some conception of what he wanted his reality to be like and slowly went about making that conception a reality. along the way however, something happens. gatsby loses his awareness of the beating current, and instead attaches himself to the idea of the green light. when we’re aware, then we are capable of constantly shifting or adapting, making the best of and appreciating the beating current. otherwise we strive tirelessly towards illusions that will forever be just outside our grasp.
speaking of illusions:

the realm
Baelish: The realm. Do you know what the realm is? It's the thousand blades of Aegon's enemies- a story we agree to tell each other over and over, until we forget that it's a lie.
Varys: But what do we have left, once we abandon the lie? Chaos? A gaping pit waiting to swallow us all.
Baelish: Chaos isn't a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some, given a chance to climb, they refuse. They cling to the realm, or the gods, or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is.
the brain, the internet & the universe
fractals are badass.
or as wikipedia would have it: “A fractal is a mathematical set that has a fractal dimension that usually exceeds its topological dimension[1] and may fall between the integers.[2]Fractals are typically self-similar patterns, where self-similar means they are “the same from near as from far”.[3] Fractals may be exactly the same at every scale, or, as illustrated in Figure 1, they may be nearly the same at different scales.[2][4][5][6] The definition of fractal goes beyond self-similarity per se to exclude trivial self-similarity and include the idea of a detailed pattern repeating itself.[2]:166; 18[4][7]”
zzz, so who cares? well here’s an example of a fractal
the crazy thing is they are everywhere. broccoli, salt flats, ammonites, mountains, ferns, clouds, leaves, canyons, lightning, peacocks, snowflakes, waterfalls, and river deltas just to name a few.
(this might seem off topic, but i’m getting to the point i promise)
what i’ve been noticing lately, is that most complex systems whether “natural” or “man-made” (whatever that means) tend to follow a fractalic(is that a word?) pattern.
here’s a neural mapping of the brain (provided by DANA):
here’s the internet:
and finally, the observable universe:
the thing that intrigues me about fractals is that at first glance they seem incredibly irrational, hard to understand and perhaps even frustrating. but when they are looked at as a whole they reveal an elegant, complex, dare i even say beautiful pattern? the internet is a physical manifestation of how interconnected we not only are, but desire to be. it reveals that we are all part of this complex, frustrating network, but when looked at in it’s entirety reveals an inherent elegance and complexity.
i have a lot more to say, but i think i’m gonna wrap it up here because i’m beginning to forget what my point was. there will probably be more to come, i’m still trying to organize my thoughts.
not that you care
