Ok so I deleted my last snarky response because I actually want to engage with this. This discourse is stupid. There are no ingroups or outgroups in queerness except those who genuinely shun their other queer siblings and give into the fascistic “one of the good ones” thinking. For example, Caitlyn Jenner is a piece of shit. She’s a class traitor and is actively undermining queer rights. But that was of her own volition.

Infighting via oppression Olympics telling other queer people under threat of political violence (or if they’re lucky, not) that they’re invalid because of their lack of marginalization or whatever is obscenely stupid. It’s the same thinking that results in any demographic supremacist ideology.

You are not better than anyone. Humans, assuming they’re not making an active choice to harm others, are all deserving of the same dignity and validation. Obviously, being a Black trans woman comes with more stigma and marginalization than being a white gay man in America by the government and by society. However, at the end of the day, your racial identity as a queer only delays the inevitable. Gay men were sent to death camps in Nazi Germany same as trans people, just later.

We have a common enemy that wants us both dead and criticizing people for being able to put off being affected by it is just idiotic. People don’t choose to be more or less marginalized just like we didn’t choose to be faggots. White cishet passing queers who understand that they need to stand up for their racialized and non-passing siblings and comrades are valuable. Those of us who are visibly trans, visibly gay, who can’t dodge on sight verbal or even physical violence, need to work with queers who can because it’s only a matter of time until they can’t either. If our most vulnerable go, we all go. We’re several lines into the “and then they came for” poem, and it’s not going to get better if we continue fighting each other instead of our common enemy: fascism, hate, bigotry, greed and capital.

Even if someone cannot possibly understand your struggles, their willingness to try and to defend you is not invalidated by their lack of struggle. Being queer, being a faggot, is not defined by suffering, and never will be.
