゛synopsis ⸝⸝.ᐟ⋆ RUGBY PLAYER!VI X COACH'S DAUGHTER HEADCANONS + SNIPPETS ── .✦ COLLEGE SETTING // many students return home or go to their dorms after classes end, but not you. you're the coach's daughter, and that means having to wait for his practices to be over to finally get home and rest your feet. it's not so bad, honestly, not when you get to see and hear sweaty women crash against each other and fight for a win. your favorite isn't just a player on the field, though, and your father's made it pretty crystal clear not to so much as breathe in vi's direction.
but who's to say he has to know?

rugby player!vi who your father explicitly tells to stay away from you. he might not go to the parties the students attend, but he’s no idiot, and he’s had the unfortunate luck to stumble into the locker rooms to lock the place up and find vi with her hand up a cheerleader’s skirt. she’s a player in and out of the field, and everybody knows it.
rugby player!vi who totally ignores what her coach says. she listens to him regarding moves and plays, not her love life. she finds you cute— always seated at the bleachers, reading and finishing your little notes. when she catches you looking, she likes to make a show of wiping the sweat off her forehead with her jersey to expose those ridiculous abs of hers.
“you know,” vi drawls as she leans her side against the fence. she’s drenched in sweat, but cares not for wiping it off her face. “you’re the first who’s stayed and watched me for five consecutive days. i think you’ve got a crush on me.”
“keep dreaming, vi,” you scoff, pointing a thumb your father’s way. “i’ve got no choice but to be here, and you’ll be benched if you keep talking to me.”
“worth the shot,” she shrugs. vi reaches over, snatching your pen and notebook to scribble down on it. her handwriting’s surprisingly neat once she hands it back, but there’s nothing but a series of numbers and a little heart. “text me, yeah? don’t wanna risk my neck every time i talk to you in public.”
such cockiness. yet, you save her number into your contacts.
rugby player!vi whom you later do send a message to. an innocent, little ‘hey’. she doesn’t ask who it is— vi just knows. the conversation starts off innocent enough… up until vi suggests playing a game of truth or dare. you’d think truth would save you from any embarrassing dares, but her questions are far, far from innocent.
‘what do you think about when you touch yourself?’
‘weirdest kinks?’
‘lets voicecall sometime ;)’
honestly, it makes you curious just what makes her so full of herself. you’ve heard about her around campus, of course, but is she really as good as the other girls say?
you try to get vi back by daring her to snap a pic of herself. you expect a mirror pic. maybe one with her arms flexed and biceps bulging. you don’t expect a selfie from the neck down, hand and forearm doing a shit job at covering her pierced nips.
rugby player!vi who eventually takes you on a date. a real one. she isn’t able to pick you up at your house, of course, but hey— she takes you out to see a horror movie, then drags you both to a fancy enough diner that doesn’t just serve greasy shit. she pays for everything, though still teases her way into getting a kiss by the end of it.
“enjoyed yourself?” vi asks, leaning the driver’s seat back. she doesn’t pat her thighs, but she does make a show of spreading her legs to make room for you.
you’d be angry at her if you didn’t know what you were getting into. but you do. if you weren’t interested at all, then you wouldn’t have even saved her number, and you certainly wouldn’t have reacted with a heart emoji to her titty pic.
“movie was shit,” you shrug, kicking your shoes off to comfortably crawl over the armrest and settle yourself on vi’s lap. she grunts with a grin, splaying her palms over your hips. “dinner was good enough. a shame you didn’t let me get dessert.”
“didn’t i?” vi pouts, head tilting. “you’re sitting right on it.”
she’s so, so corny— you’d puke if she didn’t have the looks to make up for it. but vi does, and the way her mouth works over yours once you two kiss is clearly good for more than just cheesy flirting. but unlike every story you’ve heard about going out on a date with vi, you don’t fuck. her hand hadn’t even made it under your shirt, even.
rugby player!vi who begins inviting you to the parties she hosts. they’re not messy, but they are huge. vi, however, keeps you tucked to her side all the time. many tease her about how her head’s not between a girl’s legs halfway into the evening, but she ignores them. she doesn’t get drunk, but she does get tipsy.
she’s got you backed up against the wall in some hallway. her hair tickles your chin as she peppers kisses over your throat, hands squeezing down your sides.
“vi!” a yelp of her name escapes you when she squeezes your backside, and you smack her arm with a laugh.
“what?” you can feel the grin on her lips as she hums against your neck, and she works her way back up to your face with more kisses. “you look pretty tonight, sweetheart.”
“that’s what you tell every girl.”
“no, i don’t.”
rugby player!vi whom you begin to date in secret. the campus knows, of course. but your father doesn’t. he doesn’t find it weird how you’re suddenly there for every game. vi has to fight back from trotting where you’re at on the bleachers after she wins every game, but you two end up celebrating in secret later on.
rugby player!vi who fucks you in the locker rooms. after everyone leaves, she drags you inside and presses you up against the wall. she’s sweaty— the jersey you take off lands with a wet splat on the concrete floor. she does the same for your sweater and bra, and after her own sports bra follows, your breasts press together as she brings you two into a kiss.
“fuck, baby,” vi groans as she shoves a hand down your jeans after unbuttoning them, cupping your mound to palm your sex over the thin, damp fabric. “you this wet over watching me play? scream at the other players?”
“uh-huh…”
of course you are. watching her crash against other players with grunts, seeing every flex of her thighs as she rolled in the grass… there’s nothing more attractive than seeing her in that state. when she loses, she needs release. thankfully for you, her team’s lost tonight’s match.
your hands settle on vi’s shoulders with a whine as she slides a finger into your dripping cunt, and she swallows the sound by slotting her lips against yours. she works you open with her fingers— so very loose from how easily you relax under her minisitrations that every pump of her digits is audible in the room. you work your jeans down eventually for more comfort, and vi takes the opportunity to remove her hand and carry you to one of the benches. the wood creaks under your combined weights as she sets you down on your back.
vi doesn’t speak much when she’s frustrated. you know that much now.
as soon as her hands are on your hips and her face between your legs, her tongue flattens over your slit she’s exposed with her fingers. your head thumps back against the bench, and your fingers tangle in her hair to keep her face flush against your sex. vi has no complaints about that— she fucks you with her tongue for a while before sealing her mouth over your neglected and puffy clit instead. she sucks, keeping your hips pinned to keep you from writhing as much as possible as she knocks an orgasm from your body.
rugby player!vi who sneaks into your bedroom through your window like some romcom movie. you try not to laugh as she damn near slips while climbing the wall, but she eventually does manage to slip inside. she’s, unfortunately, not very silent about it, but your father down the hall is quite the heavy sleeper. that’s not to say you two could make a sound…
vi’s on top of you, bare from the neck down. one of her breasts is cupped by your hands, and every time you tease a nipple with a flick or pinch, she jerks forward and bites her tongue.
you’re not doing any better. one of your legs is laid flat on the bed, though the other is kept raised in the air in an angle to allow vi’s body to fit between them— and more importantly, for her to fight just the right angle. a mutual groan is shared between you both once your clits press against each other. vi drops her head as she begins to roll her hips slightly, never too aggressively as to not miss the mark each time.
“quiet, sweetheart,” she hushes you, though makes it harder to follow the order when she drops one of her hands to pinch one of your nipples between her thumb and index finger. curse her and those long arms and thick hands. “don’t want your daddy to hear, do ya?”

Abby couldn't really remember how she ended up in this situation. Pants down on the floor of the bathroom, sweat slick on her skin, the fabric of her boxers pooled around her knees with your tongue angrily fucking her.
Never did she think she'd be so desperate to cum in a bathroom, yet here she was.
Fuck, she knew you were trouble ever since Issac brought you into the base. What the hell was he even thinking, treating a Scar like one of their own— like a Wolf? Even with the saccharine story of you, an "apostate" that oh so kindly helped Issac and Owen when they were in an ambush, she didn't buy that shit.
Issac brought you in there, seeming all wounded and terrified. Your display of weakness had to be a fucking act. You didn't get those scars on your face from being scared, you got them by proving your bravery and worth to the Seraphites. That's why you had them.
Maybe that same bravery brought the two of you like this.
Abigail was the same as you, in one way or another; a stubborn fucker. You didn't like each other, didn't want to like each other, and that caused trouble. Manny had once joked that, maybe if you'd train enough, you'd be on Abby's level. That riled her up, absurdly so.
She hadn't trained for years for someone like you to get compared to her!
Well, all this back and forth of shooting dirty looks across rooms, switching the position of certain training equipment just to give the other trouble finding it and cutting the lunch line, caused you to break. You've had enough.
Sure, you hated Anderson's guts, maybe even more than she hated yours, but this childish behaviour was starting to get on your nervers. You confronted her on a rather uneventful evening, right in the gym where you knew she'd be.
The argument spurred and bubbled to a boil quickly. She called you a disgusting Scar that manipulated her way into the WLF to get information, you called her sick in the head for taking that man's life— you didn't even know his name, just some old guy that you heard one of Abby's friend run their mouth about. That was Abigail's breaking point.
She shoved you. Hard, rough hands straight into your shoulders. Your nails shot out and gripped her braid tight, slightly tilting her head to the side with the pressure of the tug.
"Fuck you!" Abby had grunted.
You huffed in response, dry and humourless. "Yeah? Fuck me? Fuck you, Abby!"
Then... everything became a blur of teeth against teeth, lips overbearing one another. She kissed you first? You kissed her? Who pushed who into the bathroom? It didn't fucking matter. The tension had been suffocating, building over months of silent anger, and it just all poured over the edge. You two took the fucking too seriously.
"Shit!" Abigail moaned, long and deep in the back of her throat. Her fingers were mirroring your earlier pull, nails digging in the top of your scalp to try and keep you there, buried between her legs.
Anyone could walk in, really, but she couldn't bother herself enough to care. Her eyes were focused on your face, on how your eyebrows were stuck in a furrow even now, how the start of your scars, going from your mouth to your cheekbones, were glistening with spit and her arousal.
"You cumming?" You muttered against her clit, each word sending a spark down her legs, making her thighs spasm.
"No–" She panted, all flushed and dazed. She didn't want it to end. Didn't want you to stop being so... annoyed. "Not yet."
She pressed your head deeper into her legs, muffling any further words you might've been wanting to say. Tongue pressed flat against her clit, your fingers found their way towards her entrance, teasing her with just the tip of your index.
"Just fucking put it in already." She whispered, raising the hem of her shirt and watching your eyes trail over her hardened abdomen.
With a grunt, you pulled away to press a kiss to one of her defined abs. "I thought I was a disgusting Scar. Are my hands not disgusting enough for you now?" Your voice was smug as you slapped her thigh, making her open her legs.
She bit the inside of her cheek. Touché. "Please."
With a sigh, half irritated and half amused, you complied. Not a lot of people managed to get Anderson to say 'please'— yet you did it. How could you not fulfil her request now?
Abby's knuckles flew to her mouth, teeth digging into her skin and leaving marks as she tried to keep herself silent. Your fingers were good. Better than her own even, and Abby had to admit that she thought she was pretty good at pleasing herself. "Oh, God,"
"Don't talk about Gods now." You scowled, plunging them deeper inside of her. "Nobody's gonna hear your prayers in this bathroom." Her eyes rolled back, and that scowl of yours turned into a smirk when you went back to suck her clit.
The poor thing was red and swollen, throbbing with Abby's nearing orgasm, and your tongue did little in soothing it. Hell, Abby swore she was lightheaded from... everything she was feeling. The tightness coiled in her stomach, the heat of your mouth on her, the tiles of the bathroom shower pressed against her back.
Fingers curling inside of her, your eyes locked onto Abigail's face in hopes to gauge her reaction. Her mouth fell open in a silent moan, and only then you noticed how her bottom lip was raw; probably from muffling herself. Shit, for how long have you been eating her?
"You taste so fucking good," Your voice was quiet now.
"So I've been told." She panted. "Don't think you're special for this. I've slept with people before, and they made me cum better–"
You bit the inside of her thigh, the tender skin there trembling.
Abigail gasped. "What the fuck was that for?!" Her words were followed by a whimper.
"To shut you up. Either you let me finish this, or you can go and let those people you're talking about make you orgasm."
Her eyes trailed from up the ceiling down to your narrowed eyes, seeing the heat beneath your glare. She could almost laugh; if it weren't for the moan escaping her lips, she would've giggled. "You're jealous."
"I'm not." You hissed, pulling your fingers completely out of her before slamming them back inside. "Can you take a third?"
She nodded. Slowly, you worked up a third finger and used your thumb to rub her, wanting to be able to see her face fully. Anderson was breaking, and fuck, it was the most arousing thing you'd ever witnessed— the most feared Wolf, at the mercy of your thrusts. You licked her slickness off of your own mouth.
Abigail's legs were shaking, barely able to hold herself upright anymore— the burn of your fingers stretching her was even more satisfying than when she'd push herself in the gym, leaving her muscles sore.
"You're fluttering,"
"I'm so close." She let out an airy groan, breaking half-way through and turning into a squeak. Of course her voice had to crack in a moment like this.
Abby's hand clutched your wrist, the one that was slightly cramping with the awkward position it was in to finger her, and began grinding. Gentle, deep moves of her hips.
This time, you couldn't hold back a moan of your own. "Fuck, Anderson..." You watched her puffy pussy glide across your hand, wet squelches obscenely louder than your words. "Move faster."
She obliged. Her teeth dug into her lower lip, eyes fluttering close. "Shit– cumming, I'm cummin',"
The sweetest little noise tore from her, and with that, your hand got drenched. Wetness coated her thighs, dripping down her skin and soaking into her jeans. "God, you're fucking gorgeous." You whispered breathlessly, wrapping your arms around her legs and bringing her to sit down.
"Don't talk about God." She repeated your earlier words, voice barely audible over her panting. With only one glance at her state; Abby saw that she looked like she pissed her pants. Well, thankfully you two were in the bathroom... she could just say that the shower sprayed her.
You gently pulled out of her, licking her off of your fingers before standing up. "You'll be good on your own?"
"Yeah... yeah." She muttered.
"Don't tell anyone about this." You glanced at her over your shoulder before heading for the door.
"Wait–" Abby sighed, patting herself dry with the towel she had brought on the way. "Aren't you gonna... I don't know, stay with me for a little?"
"Sorry, I can't," You answered, a bitter smile on your face. It stretched those ugly scars that Abigail hated. "Wolves don't need Seraphites." That was all you said before leaving.
Abby grit her teeth so hard she felt her jaw tense up, throwing her used towel at the towel. You were such a fucking bitch. She knew she was wrong to have acted on an impulse, that it would only cause her trouble later on, yet she did it anyway; now who was the loser who couldn't even enjoy the post-euphoria of her orgasm? Her. Of course it had to be her.
At least you wouldn't see her at her most vulnerable state, she thought as she pulled up her panties, grimacing at the sticky and uncomfortable feeling.
ellie williams is a LESBIAN. this is not a “headcanon” debate, it’s CANON. the fact that people are so comfortable taking one of the most prominent lesbian characters in gaming and then rewriting her as bisexual is so telling. there is a huuugee difference between making an unlabeled or straight character queer and taking a character who already represents a specific marginalized identity, and changing that identity because u think it’s inconvenient. headcanoning a straight character as queer challenges the assumption that everyone is straight and creates more representation. headcanoning one of the few explicitly lesbian characters as attracted to men does the literal opposite. it takes away from lesbian representation and reinforces the idea that even when a character is clearly a lesbian, people still feel the need to make her more “palatable” by adding attraction to men(?). lesbians are constantly told that our identities are restrictive and temporary, or just a stepping stone toward attraction to guys. you can enjoy whatever ships or aus you want, but pretending that changing ellie from lesbian to bisexual is somehow the same as making a straight character queer is a veryy false equivalence.
I fucking HATE when people say "grape" "🍇" "grapist". Use your grown up words, it's RAPE, RAPIST, stop trying to sugarcoat it because nothing is sugarcoating the victims' trauma, it's so fucking disrespectful, serious conversations are going to be uncomfortable sometimes and you need to deal with that.
Thinking about movie night with best friend!abby …
feeling your hands slowly inch closer together underneath the blanket while you’re sitting on the couch watching a movie…
you feel the subtle heat first, the quiet shift beneath the fabric that’s draped across your laps. you feel like you haven’t moved in hours, sitting still and trying not to let her know how heavy you’re breathing.
but then she moves again, clears her throat to make it seem natural but it’s anything but that…
she shifts, her leg brushing against yours.
-do I move? would it be weird if I leave it there?-
the smallest brush of her pinky finger grazes yours and your breath halts. you aren’t even sure if the movie is still playing in-front of you because all your mind can focus on now is -just breathe, it’s fine, just breathe-
but it happens again. she watches out the corner of her eye, watches you squirming, eyes closed trying to breathe through the panic.
and then again. a slower, more intentional brush. you open your palm, tilting your hand towards her and without any hesitation her fingers are sliding between yours, thumb grazing over skin.
you can’t hide it anymore, your breath stutters a little bit too loud and her eyes finally blink over to you.
“this okay?” she whispers, giving your hand a gentle squeeze.
“yeah” you whisper back, “it’s more than okay”
I feel like mush….
I’m just always thinking about her really…

summary: abby develops feelings for you after not knowing what love felt like after owen
🐺 abby anderson who, during a small gathering after they had cleared out a seraphite position on the waterfront with less casualties than expected, drank too much. it wasn't supposed to be a celebration, but manny got alcohol, and after that nobody complained.
🐺 abby who, by accident, revealed that she had never kissed anybody else other than owen. during a lazy game of ‘truth and dare’, nora asked her who she had the best kiss with, and abby replied with a simple “owen.”
“owen?” nora repeated, letting out a shocked chuckle before taking a bitter sip of her drink— the one that manny had so proudly said he fermented for years, knowing damn well he probably stole it from his dad. “that’s surprising."
“what do you mean by that?”
“what i mean, abby, is that you have been in seattle for years. there have to be some people who like you.”
abby raised an eyebrow. even in her hazy state, she couldn’t help but be intrigued. “as in?”
“like…” nora looked through the crowd before spotting you. “her.” she nodded in your direction. you were enjoying yourself on a bench, sitting next to alice and scratching behind her ear. “pretty sure she’s into you.”
abs followed her friend’s direction, her eyes falling on you. the new recruit. mel and leah had found you during one of the team’s usual perimeter checks, thin and on the verge of passing out. you didn’t look dangerous, just completely broken, so they took you in— and now you were working hard to prove you were worthy of your position in the wlf.
you mostly kept to yourself, not speaking unless asked or if you had a question about the equipment. even then, you preferred talking to mel. she was easier to approach than most people in the stadium.
“don’t be fucking ridiculous.” abigail laughed.
“i’m not!” nora scoffed. “don’t you see how she always switches out the rotations to be in the same group as you?”
“you’re overthinking it.” abby shrugged. “she probably wants to feel more secure.”
manny clicked his tongue. “less talking, more drinking, amigas!”
abby rolled her eyes and took a shot, grimacing at the strong taste on her tongue.
🐺 abby who hadn’t been able to stop thinking about what nora had said that night. sure, she did notice that you preferred to be around her on the road, but she always brushed it off as a simple need for camaraderie. she didn’t know anything about you, and neither did you know anything about her— why would you be head over heels for her out of everyone?
hesitantly, once she had finished her workout, she approached you in the canteen. a big girl like her needed a big burrito, especially after tiring herself out with exercises, but she wanted to talk to you first.
“hey,” said abby, voice slightly tired.
you didn’t respond. headphones plugged in, you were concentrated on the audiobook currently playing on your broken phone; the one you luckily found during one of the scoutings.
bless the poor soul that sadly (or thankfully for you) lost their phone fuck knows how long ago.
“hey.” no reply again. she huffed. “are you deaf, or are you just ignoring me?” only then did she notice the headphones. with an embarrassed sigh— how the fuck did she not see them earlier?— she gently waved a hand in front of your face.
“oh,” you snatched the earbuds away, glancing at abby. now that you were looking at her, you could see the faint sweat on her tanktop and her hair sticking to her face. “i’m so sorry, anderson. i didn’t mean to ignore you.”
“don’t call me that.” she tried for an easy smile, instead giving you a slightly lopsided smirk. “just call me abby, like everybody does.” she shifted awkwardly.
abby had faced seraphites twice her size. she'd crossed half the city alone. somehow talking to you felt worse; because it was awkward. abs hated awkwardness.
“uh… sure, abby.” you smiled back.
“so, what’re you listening to there?” she jutted her chin towards the phone in your lap.
“it’s an audiobook.”
“really?” abby let out a dry chuckle. “those still work?”
“barely.” you shrugged. “but i’ll struggle a little bit if it’s a good book.”
“what’s it called?”
you hummed. “city of thieves.”
abby paused for a short moment before she nodded. “i have that book. like, the physical copy.”
“really?”
“yeah, it’s a pretty awesome read. kind of reflects on the situation we’re in.” she gestured vaguely around you two. the wars, the apocalypse.
with a nod of your head, you said, “i’m happy you liked it. i have to agree, it’s nice where i’m currently at.”
“what page?”
“one hundred twenty.”
abs scoffed softly, patting you on the arm. “oh, just you wait. the fun’s just now beginning.”
you beamed a bright smile at her, and abby looked away. she didn't get it. you were quiet… so why were you accepting her into your space?
“can i borrow it?” you asked.
abby shrugged, trying to seem indifferent. “sure, i mean, that’s why i mentioned it.” seemed like she was making up an excuse to talk to you; which she was. “you can pass by my dorm later this afternoon, if manny’s not busy.”
you nodded once, firm and convinced. “be sure i will, ander–... abby.”
she stood up and let you continue your lunch, heading to the food aisle and standing in line. there was no way you liked her the way nora had assumed.
🐺 abby who after eating, went back to her dorm and slammed the door extra hard.
manny flinched from his bed, awoken from his nap by the loud noise. “dios mío! (oh my god!)” he put a hand over his heart, checking if it was even fucking beating anymore.
abby stood in the doorway. “move.”
“what?” manny rubbed the sleep from his eyes. “no way. we’re free from training today, i’ll take all the sleep i need.”
“i need to shower.” abby deadpanned.
slowly, her friend glanced at her, an eyebrow raised suspiciously. “what for?”
“i’m sweaty, and someone’s coming to borrow a book.”
manny stared. “a book.”
“yes, can you move now? she’ll be here in, like, twenty minutes. i don’t like smelling bad.”
when abs mentioned her scent, manny burst into a loud laughter, trying to stifle himself into the pillow. “you’re showering for a good company?”
“what?!” abby sputtered, starting to stumble over her words. “no! oh my god, you’re absolutely disgusting.” she dragged her hands over her face. “just get out, manny.”
manny raised his hands in surrender, standing up from his bed and quickly trying to organize his sheets; which were currently tangled around his waist.
“stop stalling.” she groaned, and manny finally scurried off. but of course, not without saying, “buena suerte, hermosa! (good luck, beautiful!)”
abigail rolled her eyes and grabbed a change of clothes before heading towards the shower, her toiletries bag clutched in her hand.
after her quick rinse, abby was in the middle of doing her signature dutch-style braided hair when she heard the knock upon her door. “manny, if it’s you again, give me a fucking break!” she called out.
though when you peeked your head inside, she let out a relieved sigh. “sorry. i thought it was my friend.”
“it’s totally fine.” you smiled, “can i come in?”
“i didn’t invite you to just sit at the door, did i?”
with a reluctant shrug, you entered inside. “i bought something for you as well.” a small clear of your throat. a book was in your hands, thumbs tracing the cracked spine of it.
abby glanced down, and her heart nearly stopped. this time it wasn’t out of the usual fear she’d learned to suppress on the battlefield, but out of a burst of joy she hadn’t expected to feel. “oh– oh my god.”
“what? is it bad? i personally liked the ending, and i thought you might too–”
“no, no, it’s not bad.” abby huffed, shutting down your thought. she grabbed the book out of your hands, eyes trailing over the title. the road by cormac mccarthy. “i’ve been looking for this book for such a long fucking time. it’s a hard find.”
as abby admired the book, you couldn't help but glance up at her. she looked happier than a child on christmas. it seemed like the strong, indestructible abby had one weakness; books. “mel found it for me. there are a couple of my notes in there, i hope you don't mind.”
“mind? i dont mind at all.” for the first time in a long while, there was a shine in her eyes. “thank you, like, seriously.” she reverently placed your book down, like it was a sacred totem, and instead grabbed the one she’d been intending to give to you.
“here,” she placed it gently into your hands. “take it. you can bring it back whenever you want.”
you grinned at her, and she gave you a half smile in return. “thanks.”
“what page did you say you were on?”
“i’m on one hundred twenty eight now.”
abby nodded. “don’t rush it. it’s a bittersweet ending.”
“thank you.” with that, you left her bedroom and retreated down the hall with quiet steps. abby sighed hard, slumping in her bed and grabbing the book you’d given her.
you thought of her while picking it out. the thought made abby’s lips purse as she began passing through the pages, reading the small notes in your handwriting.
🐺 abby who hadn’t been able to stop herself from noticing the small things about you. nora could be speaking to her, talking her ear off about whatever relationship drama leah had spilled to her, and she’d be look at you.
which annoyed her. so fucking much.
she was supposed to be enjoying the sparse peace she had when she wasn’t training, not overanalyzing your behaviors like a maniac from the bleachers.
truly, she’d be creeped out if anyone stared at her as intensely as she was doing to you… but her eyes were still glued to your figure.
you always rubbed your thumb over the cord of your headphones when you were nervous, you saved the last bite of your food to give to alice,— even when you weren’t supposed to— and she took notice of which routes you preferred as well.
you always took the long trails, saying that nobody really went through them because people preferred convenience.
“abigail anderson!” grunted nora, tapping her friend’s arm repeatedly. “did you even hear a word of what i said?”
“no– i mean yeah, yeah, i did. just because i’m zoned out doesn’t mean i can’t listen. i’m multitasking.”
“multitasking my ass.” nora scoffed. “ever since you came back from the fob with that girl, you’ve been so weird.”
“what?” abby scoffed back, not looking at ber. “you’re ridiculous, nora. seriously.”
nora raised an eyebrow. “i’m your best friend, and i notice shit.” she looked at you, sitting a couple of rows down and talking with mel. “you jealous?”
abby just then realised how clenched her jaw was. “no.” she muttered. “curious, that’s all.”
“you’re giving mel a death stare.”
“i’m not.”
“yes, you are!” nora laughed, tipping her head back.
abby shook her head. with a reluctant roll of her eyes, she admitted. “she was… in the fob, she started threatening this scar. she was so fierce, but her knife skills were awful. seriously, even a mosquito would do a better job.”
“what, you wanna train her?”
abby stayed silent. the thought didn’t seem to her annoy her, as she thought it would.
slowly, as if the realization clicked in nora’s brain, her eyes widened. “abby,” she started off. “you don’t train rookies. you never have.”
abby scrubbed her hands over her face, feeling the hair sticking to her sweaty temples. “i know! i fucking know! but she gave me this incredible book and i want…” she trailed off with a heavy sigh. “i don’t know what i fucking want. to help her, i guess?”
“you’re unbelieveable.” nora laughed. “go ahead then, bookworm. mel might teach her how to perform brain surgery while you’re sitting here.”
abby sighed and stood up, rolling her strained shoulder. nora gave abs a knowing glance and she shrugged, sauntering over towards you. “hey,”
“hi!” you looked up, breaking eye contact with mel.
“you need to train. your hand-to-hand combat’s weak.” she deadpanned.
you blinked once at her carefully composed tone before chuckling nervously. “now? i mean, i was talking to–”
“yes, now. this is a survival skill you need to master, especially if issac’s going to assign you more often to the fob.” she glanced at mel briefly. “you can always talk to her another time.”
with a heavy reluctance, you nodded before waving mel goodbye. “if manny’s training me, just know i’m backing out.”
“i’ll do it.” she murmured under her breath, almost like she couldn’t believe her own words either. she began walking towards the training studio, letting you linger close behind her.
—
“no, no.” abby clicked her tongue. “you’re moving too slow.” she said as she stood in front of you, holding her prop knife against your throat for the fourth time already.
you groaned in frustration, pushing her back slightly. “this is bullshit.”
“you know what’s bullshit?” abigail bit back. “that you aren’t trying hard enough. outside, people won’t be so kind as to use styrofoam knives like these!” she waved her silly prop; something written on it in sharpie.
you fiddled slightly with the lucky hair tie around your wrist. “i am trying.”
“then fucking show me that you are.” she sighed. “again. give it your best this time.”
as you moved back to your spot, abby raised the hem of her wife pleaser to her forehead, wiping a sheen of sweat covering her skin. you glimpsed at her hard abdomen before swallowing past the lump in her throat. focus. you had to focus.
this time, she allowed you the first move. “come on.” she grunted, one strong hand gripping the handle of the weapon while the other gestured for you to approach her.
your first instinct was to go for her arms. they were big, bulging right in front of you; right for your eyes to linger on. the edge of your blade scratched her forearm, barely leaving a faint, red line where it dragged across her skin.
“good.” abigail praised, though you knew there’d be some remark coming. before you could process another move, she knocked the prop out of your hand and placed her blade against your stomach. “but not good enough.”
“for fuck’s sake, abby!”
“what?” she said in exasperation. “this is soft compared to those seraphites. you’re lucky that the dude in the fob was staved, or otherwise i wouldn’t even be talking to you now.”
“what?!” you repeated after her, anger flaring in your chest. that was the reaction abby had been looking for. “maybe my hand combat’s weak, but i could do better out there with adrenaline and–”
abigail laughed, breathing hard for a slight moment before resting against a crate. “yeah, keep telling yourself that, sweetie.” the nickname made her cringe as soon as it slipped past her lips, but she tried to play it off. “take a break. be here in twenty.”
“no, i want to do it!”
“take a break.” she repeated, more slowly this time like she could get through you.
“i want to do it!” you picked up your prop off of the floor, looking more determined than ever. abby didn’t know whether the sight of your scrunched up face was adorable or completely amusing— maybe both.
with an indulgent shrug, abby made her way back to her spot. she took on her stance, boots firmly pressed onto the mattress with her arms raised.
as soon as she began moving towards you, you slammed your shoulder into her, sending both of you stumbling on the floor. abby’s eyes widened in shock, years of training kicking in as she covered her head for any potential blows.
the only blows that came, however, were the dull hittings of the blade prop on her skin. abigail’s heart was racing up to her throat, almost making her think she was going to be sick— while you were, quite literally, all over her.
“i’m tapping out!” abby blurted. never in her fucking life had she tapped out.
a sudden triumphant smile broke on your face before realizing the position you two were in, scrambling off of her. “yeah… yeah, that’s what I’ll do to those sons of bitc–”
from somewhere near the equipments, a suppressed giggle was heard. then another. abby looked behind your shoulder, seeing her friends waving at her not so subtly. “oh my god.” she whispered under her breath.
“break.” abby said once again. she needed it. “you did amazing this time.” she got off the floor, grimacing at the pain in her shoulder before extending a hand to help you.
“thanks.” you hummed, taking her bigger palm and pulling yourself up. you headed towards the crates abby had been leaning on, taking a towel to pat your forehead and neck dry.
“and uh, i’m at page two hundred now. i’m really sad about lev and kolya,” but as you turned back to talk to abby, she was gone. in fact, the people who had been snickering behind you two weren’t there anymore either.
—
abby rushed through the crowded space of the hallway, mumbling ‘sorry’ left and right until she arrived into the bathroom. her gut wasn’t fucking lying; she really was going to be sick.
she blamed it on the sudden movement of you two hitting the ground that made her nauseous, since she had her lunch not too long before asking you to train. yeah. clearly because of that.
it surely wasn’t because the warmth of your body on top of hers had felt so right, so easy and meant to be, that it made her heart feel slightly lighter— the lightest it had felt ever since she had killed joel. or because you smelled like something clean and slightly sweet, like the fur of a kitten.
what the fuck? only manny would do sappy comparisons like those…
unceremoniously pushing open the door to a stall, she emptied out her stomach in the toilet. with one hand resting on the handle and the other on her stomach, she flushed down the acrid scent.
now her head was hurting. wonderful. issac would have her head if she fell ill during this time of the year; winter was always a struggle, because it was harder to import supplies into the base.
but she would be fine. she just had to see mel to get some medicine, with no other thought in her mind. surely, she could do that.
🐺 abigail who felt like dying when she told mel she wasn’t feeling well, biting the skin of her inner cheek as she sat in an uncomfortable chair.
“have you eaten anything out of the ordinary? maybe some of… manny’s weird concotions, or?”
“no.” abs shook her head. this was fucking weird. usually she avoided going straight to mel for medical help, but now, she had a reason to do such. “just the canteen soup.”
“vertigo? motion sickness? migraines?”
she shook her head again to all of those things.
“it might be acid reflux. perhaps you’re not chewing your food properly, causing it to come back up.” mel sighed softly, reaching for a sheet of pills. she popped one out, holding it in her palm.
abby took it and ungracefully swallowed the pill dry, until she noticed mel glaring at her. with a slight roll of her eyes, she took a couple of sips of water.
“try to eat slowly and carefully next time, and you’ll need to take these for a week.” she placed the sheet in abby’s hand.
“understood.” abby nodded once before clearing her throat. “so, uh… how’s the new girl?”
mel raised an eyebrow at the sudden shift in the conversation. “the recruit?” she chuckled dryly. “she’s fine. still shaken up, but i think that playing with alice helps her.”
“mm.” abby hummed in acknowledgement. “does she have any other friends around?”
“she told me that she isn’t looking for friends.” mel shrugged. “why are you asking?”
“just wondering if she’s settled in all right.”
mel gave her an amused, slightly confused glance before letting her out of the medbay.
🐺 abby, who at that exact moment in the gym, fell in love with you.
at first she didn’t realise it, thought that it was just her loneliness speaking. after owen, she hadn’t tried to experience the possibility of love again. in a world like this, nobody had time for romantic feelings— especially her. she was on the run most of the time, on patrols and whatnot.
but then she came to the conclusion that love was gradual. it wasn’t the sudden ‘love at first sight’ that leah had told her she felt with jordan, nor was it a burning and throbbing thing inside her chest.
it was… soft, gentle. just like you were. after the training incident, you began spending time more often with her (though mel had coaxed you into taking that decision), chatting about the books you’ve read in the last couple of days.
hell, manny had even gotten used to your presence around the dorm. you two didn’t speak much, but he’d offer you a friendly smile when he would walk inside and see you sitting on abby’s bed.
and now? you were back in front of her door, holding abby’s city of thieves book. what a great fucking read.
when she heard your signature knock, two loud ones and one that barely grazed your knuckles on the wood, abs sprung out of her bed with much more nerves than she’d expected.
she was going to confess. or at least, that’s what she’d planned in her mind to do. manny encouraged her to do it on the ride back to the base after a patrol. she hadn’t told him that there was something brewing for you, but he just whispered, “you have to do it sooner or later, abs.” and nodded towards you.
“hey,” abby said, looking all warm and comfortable in her hoodie.
“hey.” you stepped inside past abby, sighing softly once the warmth of her dorm embraced your chill skin. due to the unfortunate placement of your own room, most of the heat couldn’t reach it, which meant you were living the winter in an ice cube.
“are you cold?”
“a little, but i’ll be fine.” you laughed in hopes to not worry her, holding out the hardcover.
abby shook her head. “i’m not letting you be cold in my room.” she gently took the book out of your hands and walked down the stairs to her bed, throwing it out on her pillows.
she reached for a clean hoodie until an impish idea came in her mind. before you could see her, she quickly pulled a slightly worn one out of her hamper, the scent of her body still lingering. when you came to sit down, she handed it to you.
“thank you, abs.” shit, since when were you calling her by nicknames? it seemed like just yesterday when you were a shy thing, and abby had to tell you to not call her ‘anderson’. you pulled it over your shirt, the bigger material pooling past your wrists.
abby sat down next to you, her thigh brushing yours in the process. she picked at a hangnail around her finger, trying not to look you in the eyes as you began rambling about the details of the book.
“um, y/n, let’s… let’s stop for a moment.” she murmured.
“stop what?” you brushed your sleeve over your nose, trying to get a whiff of what it smelled like. unfortunately it wasn’t very subtle, but abby was too busy looking at her hands to notice.
“talking about books and what other nerdy things we enjoy.” sighed abigail.
as much as you would’ve loved to continue doing so, you nodded. you could feel your heart slightly racing. would she say she hated you for rambling her ear off? would she say that she got dared to befriend you?
“i– i want to kiss you.”
she finally turned to look at you. “i mean, i– i want… you know, you’re so beautiful and so sweet and, you just make me feel so many things.” she rambled like an idiot.
she took a deep breath. “i like you.” there. she fucking said it. she said the closest thing to an ‘i love you’. the words were too choked up to say them properly, so she settled for the next best thing.
you opened your mouth before shutting it back shut.
“i’m so sorry–” abby whispered at your reaction. “i said too much.” she pressed the heels of her palms into her eyes, feeling overwhelmed by the heaviness of her own words. saying them out loud made it all so fucking real.
before you could think twice about what later consequences there might be, you grabbed her face in your tender palms and gave her what she asked for— a kiss.
it was oh so careful, so slow and shy and tentative. it was all that abby could ever ask for. she shifted slightly, her bigger hands resting on top of yours as she tried to deepen the kiss, her tongue brushing yours.
you giggled, vibrating on her lips, and it made a smile break on her face as well. she brushed her thumb over your hand, feeling the delicate bones there. you were so much quieter, emotional and clearly adorable than her; yet you chose abby.
you pulled away when the lack of breath started getting to you, a string of saliva connecting your lips to abigail’s. “did that convince you of what i feel?”
“yes.” abby grinned. “it did.”
now you two were a mess of grins and silly giggling, almost like two teenagers on their first date. you took the initiative of hugging her when you leaned in, your head resting on her shoulder.
abby brought her arms around your waist, not yet sure if she should cuddle you. “when? i mean, uh, when did you start liking me? i never even knew you felt that way.”
“i think it was when we talked in the cafeteria.” you admitted softly. “i only saw you with a scowl on your face until then, but when i started talking about the books, you relaxed.”
abby hummed. made sense. she figured she could look a bit intimidating with her bad grimacing problem. “i think i fell for you when i saw you giving alice a bone.”
you snuggled into her, nodding slightly into her arm. “i like you a lot, abigail.”
“abby. never abigail.” she leaned on her back, keeping you tucked at her side. when she saw you didn’t resist the cuddle, she brushed her hand through your hair.
“can’t i be the only exception?”
abby grumbled teasingly before letting out a fond sigh. “fine. you are the only exception to that rule.”
🐺 abs, who would unconditionally love you and show you off to her friends for as long as she’d be alive.
