“What if I was a bit overweight and not especially pretty? Why is that so terrible? So disgusting? Why is that the end of the world?… It’s because a woman’s entire self-worth rests on her looks. That’s why. It’s because we live in a beauty-obsessed society where the most important thing a woman can do is make herself attractive to men.”
— Liane Moriarty, Big Little Lies
one day you will be happy. not constantly, but it will become a theme in your life. you will have days where you feel sad and that’s normal. but eventually you can wake up with a smile on your face even if there isn’t a reason. you’ll see yourself through a clearer lens. you’ll think of the best case scenarios. you’ll find people who you can share your happiness with. you’ll settle into your own body and mind with a sense of security.
I used to think it was important to have common interests with the person that you are in a relationship with but now I think it is more important to be similar in other aspects. like how kind you are. how you treat the people you care about, how you treat strangers. how you deal with anger. how you deal with pain. and not necessarily dealing with all these things the same way but being perceptive enough to understand what action each situation calls for. it’s important for both people to be on the same page about what that action should be. it’s important to me to have that kind of synchrony.

It is okay to be angry at the world. To be angry at everything that is happening right now. To feel frustrated and lost. To be mad at yourself. Right now it might seem like everything is just getting worse and worse with all that is going on. And it can be so scary, I know. I just want you to know that all of your feelings right now are absolutely valid. You are allowed to feel angry, frustrated, lost or mad - and everything at the same time. I know there is hardly anything anyone can say that will make all of this more bearable, but I just want you to know that I am cheering you on. Even if you do not believe it, this will pass and you will be okay.
I needed this, so I’m sharing in case you needed it, too <3
This one is for you: For the person who never lets anyone see their demons or the battle they are fighting inside their head; for the person who gives everything to help those in need but does not seem to get the same care back; for the person who is hurting inside but hiding it with a smile on the outside even though what fills their nights are dark thoughts and cries; this one is for you, my love. I want you to know that I see you. I see right through the mask you are putting on every day and I am here to tell you that you can put it down. Drop it. Finally let those feelings out. It is okay. It is okay. I am here. I will not judge. I will support you as you heal in your own way.
"Never forget that walking away from something unhealthy is brave, even if you stumble a little on your way out the door."
—Mandy Hale
I know this transformation is painful, but you're not falling apart; you're just falling into something different, with a new capacity to be beautiful.
