im not mad like no one write it down that i got mad but as someone who actually does enjoy the characterization of alastor as like. a momma’s boy, self-described ‘gentleman’ who is viscerally offput by sexual violence. i hate when people want to take the rhetoric without interrogating how his actions simply do not reflect those values lol. like my favourite thing about alastor has always been how much of a hypocrite he is (#hypocrite hashtag my hypocrite) and i wish more people were approaching this interpretation of him from that direction….guy who believes eating someone’s organs isn’t a violation of their body (or, not enough of one to matter!). guy who thinks sexual harassment is bad except when it’s not. and i do think he and valvel would get on like a house on fire like he does not gaf!!

anyway extremely specific headcanon hours but I think Vincent should've grown up with a stutter. Like, obviously he kicked it after putting in so much effort that he swung all the way to the opposite extreme of elocution becoming the basis behind his entire skillset, but there will always be that little bit of lingering childhood trauma around trying to speak in public and not being able to. which incidentally makes the muting incident so much worse but nevermind that. he's 100% convinced that the buffering, distorted speech is another of hell's extremely pointed inside jokes—like, oh, he thought he'd grown past that? that he'd never have to worry about getting so worked up he can't get words out again? that's funny. doesn't he know that no one ever really changes?

Genuinely believe that Vox's voice is just about the only thing he actually unambiguously likes about himself. He's aware of how good it sounds, can see how it effects people, and most importantly, he's taken great pains to ensure he knows how to use it to the fullest. It's his most sincere, unassailable skill, his ultimate all-purpose tool, his chosen name and the basis for his entire self-made identity. It's also entirely, undeniably his.

Which is what makes it so much fun that Hell has given him a form that makes his skillful speech buffer and glitch when he's emotional, that warps and distorts his voice until it's hard to listen to, that he can literally be muted. It's like, imagine a guy obsessed with control and curating his image, who has this one thing he clings to as his means of engaging with the world, and then repeatedly rob him of his power over it in the most noticeable way possible. Fucking fantastic, I tell you.

You know, a thread I don't see people connect often enough is Alastor's need to be a big scary mystery and Alastor's deal with Rosie. I'm not saying that that's the only reason Alastor has had to keep his cards close to the vest - not by any stretch of the imagination. But I have to imagine that "keeping everyone guessing" has been a bit higher-stakes and at least partly a defense mechanism because of Alastor's deal. For the simple reason that if Alastor were more predictable, the things he's had to do for Rosie would stand out.

When you're an enigma, you can disappear for seven years or throw your weight behind a crazy redemption hotel or do any number of other weird and zany things, and the most anyone will say is - yeah, that's Alastor. If you think you know what he's going to do next, no you don't.

But if you have a pattern, if you're more predictable, if you aren't known for acting spontaneously or irrationally, the spontaneous and seemingly irrational things you've been compelled to do become much more apparent.

nono you're right. I mean, we all know how I feel about staticbelle so that's obvious. the only reason I haven't already been fully aboard the voxlith interaction train is that we don't have anything to go on for her characterization yet... tfw you falsely position yourself as the messianic successor to what is effectively a demigoddess as ancient as the entire human race, and now she's here in your house saying that she 'just wants to talk' about that little disagreement you had with her daughter. it's like the ultimate 'vox being faced with the real version of the thing he imitated and warped and tried to take for himself out of some twisted parody of admiration and realizing just how absolutely inadequate he was to even fake the role' ship. and while I don't think staticapple would be all that sexually compatible I absolutely believe they'd try fucking once anyway and it is the single weirdest erotic experience of Vox's existence (and maybe even makes it into like, the top 15 of Lucifer's, which is pretty impressive). Triply funny if Vox is the first sinner (sans Lilith obviously) that Lucifer's had sex with ever and he is ABSOLUTELY treating it as an exotic curiosity in a 'so this is what it feels like to sleep with an unrepentantly awful person' way. And since I don't really think Lucifer and Charlie are the kind of family who would be comfortable with sharing partners, please imagine: Vox has his bizarre one-night stand with Lucifer, they agree they never want to do it again and Vox basically forgets about it, and then much later once he and Charlie have established a much more serious and enmeshed situationship it inadvertently comes out that, oh yeah, that's a thing that happened. And staticbelle have been having ill-advised kinky sex for months at this point, so there's not really any backing out, and Charlie does low-key crash out about it. she's obviously super pissed he didn't tell her but for ONCE Vox wasn't even deceiving her on purpose, he was just in a really weird mental place at the time and has since erased basically that whole period from his memory in a bid to retain some semblance of sanity. which evidently has not been working.
