S5 Is the Worst Season So Far
Okay, here we go…
1.) It was all too rushed: in vol. 1 I already had the impression the Duffer brothers were trying to fit what would be enough for two more seasons into one. Episode 4 made me not say anything, because it was genuinely the best episode of the season — Robin’s speech, the reveal of Will’s powers, his own acceptance with his family and MIKE’s memories!!!
But we get to episode 5 and everything is happening all at once; problems that in a previous season would take SEVERAL episodes to resolve were dealt within 5 minutes. Will, for example — I expected to see him being tortured and possessed and going through this battle against Vecna, HELL I was expecting a fake out death for him, but no, Jane just saved him in one scene, just like that. I even thought she was going into his mind and seeing his memories and thoughts, but NOTHING.
Max waking up? NOTHING. Extremely underwhelming and rushed. What should have put me on the edge of my seat didn’t make me feel anything. I’ll talk about everyone’s reaction to her waking up further down…
All the scenes where I thought a character might die… nothing happened. I’m not asking for any GOT, but not even Murray died yet??
2.) The characters no longer feel like themselves: something happened on that set that made me stop seeing certain characters and only see their actors.
Don’t come for me, please, but I couldn’t feel anything for Jane this season, because I only saw Millie on my TV. Her fillers take away any sense of Jane from her, and she looked disgusted half the time.
What happened to Mike? I was expecting to see my Mike from seasons 1/2 again, but whenever he appeared he only seemed numb. No POV of his, again, no decent reactions, no usefulness…
And in all the scenes where you’d expect to see something exciting, they were just rushed and IMMEDIATELY forgotten. Max woke from a coma after 2 years and we didn’t even get a proper reaction from everyone. ELMAX WASN’T MADE JUSTICE.
3.) BYLER: Biggest queerbait ever, WTH HAPPENED??
Are we really going to reduce the plot of the only main queer character to a simple “crush” forgotten in a day??
Tell me why William Byers, a character everyone knows was IN LOVE with Mike — it wasn’t a simple crush, it wasn’t a Tammy — got over his decade-long “crush” after a girl told him he needed to get over it??
Will Byers, instead of only coming out to his mother and to Jonathan, told EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER he was gay?? IN THE 80s?? This is lazy writing… And the Duffer brothers said that scene took them the longest to write… I don’t even know what to expect from the last episode.
Of course Mike barely reacted to anything Will said and everyone acted like they were in a Disney Channel show.
Byler bones, but Mileven bones too, because all the scenes between them were TERRIBLE. Not to mention we now have three suicidal characters — Hopper, Kali and Jane.
Great.
I probably haven’t said everything I wanted to say, but I’m too tired to think of anything else to write rn…
