Aizawa believing himself too weak to save a kitten, only to go on to comfort the symbol of peace always gets me.

But he was always strong enough. He was always a caring and protective person.

He was and is a hero, always lifting others to greater heights.

He just never truly understood and believed it until Midoriya said it.

Character Flaws vs Writing Flaws:

While catching up on some of the stuff people have commented/sent to me, I noticed someone mention how Katsuki being a bully is a flaw of his and that not every character needs to be a good person.

First of all, when did I ever say that a character has to be morally correct to be a good character? Some of my favorite characters are villains who’ve done worse things than Katsuki.

So what’s the difference between them and Katsuki?

Well, the villains have a reason for existing. Joker is meant to serve as a parallel to Batman, challenging his morals while also showing what an unhinged Batman could look like.

On a much lesser scale, despite his extremely limited screen time, Moonfish’s bloodlust, lack of sanity, and cannibalism serve two purposes in MHA: to showcase Fumikage’s power and to give the readers an example of what the heroes of this world have to deal with.

Katsuki’s flaws are meant to show the flaws of a world that values raw power over morals, but he fails at this. The reason why? His flaws are never allowed to be flaws.

Katsuki’s aggressive and hostile nature should have him struggling to make friends, yet he has the two pillars of 1-A, that being Ejiro and Denkias described by Hori, immediately befriend him with no issues. His inability to empathize with others should have people wanting to steer away from him, but his instead 1-A loves him, Eri loves him despite being the last person who would, and anyone who doesn’t love him is seen as being in the wrong.

Katsuki is meant to be a big fish in a little pond, someone whose ego isn’t challenged until a certain point, and the Battle Trials were meant to show this. While yes, Katsuki has a mini-breakdown over the fact that he’s no longer in a class of people with weaker quirks, he has no issue claiming a spot as a Top Dog and he still continues to demean the people around him.

Katsuki’s aggressiveness is meant to be both a flaw and an asset. His aggressive nature is what motivates him to defeat the villain, but it’s supposed to cause him to have a one track mind when it comes to hero work. Rescue, teamwork, all of that is ignored by him to fight the big bad. His ego caused everyone to have a tougher time during the USJ, but is that ever touched upon? Nope. It’s just ignored. When Katsuki saved Kyouka, there was no buildup to it. It just happens. We never see him struggle with teamwork because everyone else follows him like a lost puppy.

Meanwhile, Izuku is meant to be Katsuki’s parallel in this department. He’s meant to showcase why too much selflessness isn’t good while also showing that a hero is more than just their raw power. Problem is, Izuku gets completely shat on no matter what he does. He goes after a villain to protect U.A? Gets criticized. Does his best to work with Katsuki? Gets blamed despite it solely being an issue on Katsuki’s end. Does everything perfectly? Nope, still not enough. Compared to Izuku, who always seems to be in the wrong, Katsuki’s placed as this paragon of heroic virtues despite the fact both characters are supposed to be two halves of a whole. They’re supposed to learn from one another. Problem is, Katsuki’s flaws are always ignored while Izuku’s positive traits are demeaned.

Finally, Katsuki being a bully is supposed to serve as a starting point for his character. He’s meant to grow and develop as a human being. Again, he doesn’t, or at least he doesn’t do so in an organic way. He never suffers consequences for his behavior, he’s constantly propped up and coddled instead of criticized, and he’s given some heroic moments despite there being no buildup to them. In the span of a month he goes from nearly killing Izuku to risking his life for him. Where the hell did that come from? Honestly, I wouldn’t care if Katsuki being a bully is his sole purpose for existing, but he’s meant to be more than that. This is supposed to be a well developed and fully fleshed out character who grows from his selfishness and is meant to show that anyone can be a hero, no matter their starting point. But when the development is crap and he hardly changes outside of some OOC moments, then his flaws cease to be flaws that he’s meant to overcome. Instead MHA treats it as him being quirky and misunderstood.

In conclusion, you just can’t present something as a character flaw and expect it to serve as an excuse as to why a character exhibits said flaw. You have to think of the following: what purpose does this flaw serve? Is it meant to be used to teach a lesson? Does it set something in motion, whether it be the development of this character, another character, or does the flaw cause the character’s downfall? The only thing Katsuki’s flaws does right is that they set up Izuku’s story, which again would be fine if that’s Katsuki’s purpose, but it’s not. Him being a bully isn’t something that he overcomes in a natural way. His redemption story is the equivalent of filling things out of a checklist without being fleshed out. Every time he screws up, it’s never treated as a screw-up. Oh he failed the hero license exam? Well so did Shoto so he’s not unique there, and the proctors still suck his dick even while he’s “failing”. Him being the reason for 13’s injuries? Never brought up.

Katsuki’s flaws don’t piss me off because they are flaws, but because the writing of his character IS so deeply flawed despite being a centralized character in the story.

Oh, and as always, someone can dislike a character for whatever reason they might have. If people don’t like Katsuki because he’s a bully, then they have every right to. What I wrote is a response as to why I think Katsuki’s a shit character and how it’s not because of his flaws themselves, but how Hori goes about writing these flaws.

So I started to watch “welcome to demon school! Iruma kun!” And it’s really good and funny, and even if it’s has its own actions and interests plot! Lots of the plot happens in the school! Because, the school is in the title of work.

While in my hero academia it’s less academia and more “I forget the title of my own manga so I’m bullshitting stuff up at this point.” And “gore for the sake of gore and shock value”

When I first started MHA I expected to see more academia in the manga considering the title, and more school and slice of life chapters. But now it’s a shitty mess that I don’t know how to describe it, izuku been more in an hospital bed than there was shown good moments between class 1a.

Welcome to demon school, Iruma kun! Kinda shows what’s could happened, Iruma is adored by his classmates because he kind, and the manga and anime express that adoration in lots of ways and I like it.

Both Iruma and izuku are similar in lots of aspects and kindness is one of them. But I also want to point out how different their authors treat them;

Hori and Nishi obviously treat them differently in their writings and it’s showing on how they prototype their main characters, Iruma is adored; Nishi loves her main character so much, she loves Iruma and she passionately write his story. He drawn beautifully and with care, shining like a diamond everywhere he goes.

Hori hates izuku, he dislike him so much he willing to torture him and go to extreme lengths with it. The class while I do think likes him they don’t adore him, there aren’t moments of adoration between izuku and the class (never mind the fact that there almost no moments of the class bonding with izuku)

Now, Hori loves Bakugou. He loves the brat so much, and you can see it with how he drawn and how the class adores him (and also the amount of moments Bakugou has with the class compared to izuku)

Hori abandoned a diamond(izuku) for a coal(Bakugou), while Nishi polished the diamond to perfection and showed him all the care in the world.

Anyway, have a nice week. I recommend watching “Welcome to demon school, Iruma kun!” It’s adorable, and if you love Izuku you would like Iruma kun.

Yes, Horikoshi somehow forgot the premise of his own manga along the way. And it's so funny because a big criticism is that 1A as a whole isn't properly developed, which would have been easily fixed if he had focused more on Academia.

But the problem with this is UA itself. Aizawa doesn't teach, All Might is new, and the rest of the teachers are ignored into oblivion. For being the best hero school in the world, it doesn't put much stock into its students.

Apparently, Aizawa stans don't see the fact that while he was making every concession for Bakugou, five of his other students failed the final exam. Horikoshi's favoritism of Bakugou makes every other character look worse

Hori: has Izuku accomplish a lot of good during his time away from UA by rescuing countless people and defeating high-level villains such as Muscular and Lady Nagant.

Hori: has Izuku leave UA due to All For One possessing Ragdoll's Quirk, which allows him to have eyes on Izuku 24/7, as well as the traitor being among them (not mentioned in the narrative, but still).

Also Hori: has the narrative criticize him for leaving, blames All Might for this and has his classmates refuse to hear him out that they're in over their heads and forcibly drag him back to UA, despite him being in bad physical and mental shape.

Also Hori: has 1A get their asses handed to them in the Final War.

"They have no communication!" - Recovery Girl after seeing Izuku literally being backhanded for trying to follow the rules of the exam and work together.

"Their relationship is horrible!" - Aizawa after doing nothing about the fact that Bakugou literally nearly killed Izuku during the Battle Trials

"You two should make up and be friends!" Ochako right after aknowledhing how Bakugou does nothing but yell at Izuku

"We've never talked through our feelings." - Izuku after being dragged out of the dorm to play therapist to Bakugou's temper tantrum over failing the Provisional License Exam (due to his own shortcomings) and not being chosen by All Might to be his successor

"Save to win and win to save! You're proper rivals now!" - All Might after "hearing everything" about Bakugou's temper tantrum and how he hated Izuku and wanted him to stay inferior to him

And Bakugou stans wonder why his antis call him a Gary Stu?

I will FOREVER be salty about how Hori paints his characters with valid criticisms against the status quo as in the wrong:

Monoma - hates Bakugou, therefore hates 1A by association and is painted out to be some over the top arrogant asshole who freaks out every time they so much as breath (Monoma's not my favorite, but he's 100% right when it comes to Bakugou).

Rock Lock - doesn't want the first years (maybe also the third years, idk?) involved in the Shie Hassaikai raid due to how dangerous it is and due to having recently had a newborn son, is painted as someone who's being overprotective and unfair to these heroes in training.

Inko - isn't comfortable with Izuku continuing at UA after the Forest Camp Attack, is painted as being overprotective (I have my issues with Inko, but she had an incredibly valid point here).

The media - rightfully criticizes UA's utter inability to protect their students and reign in Bakugou's behavior (the hill I will die on), is painted as trying to unfairly persecute UA/Aizawa.

Present Mic - uses common sense to deduce that there's a traitor in UA's midst, is portrayed as being a shit stirrer who's quick to distrust his colleagues and students (another hill I'll die on).

Gran Torino (a minor one) - calls Aizawa's high expulsion rate as what it is: nasty (showing that even he has standards), is immediately corrected by Present Mic that the expulsions are "only on paper" and Aizawa truly cares deep down (which actually makes it WORSE since it stays on their permanent records regardless).

Other students taking the Provisional Exam - call out Bakugou for being an obnoxious asshole, are immediately painted as "not understanding how hard he works."

Pro Heroes and Present Mic - call out Bakugou for not taking Ochako seriously in the Sports Festival, are told to RETIRE for not understanding how Bakugou clearly works harder than anybody else to be a hero (but then Bakugou proceeds to get the second highest amount of internship offers, so idk what the fuck point Horikoshi was trying to make here).

Vlad King is a weird one because while his one-sided rivalry with Aizawa/1A is obnoxious and unprofessional, he IS a better teacher than Aizawa is and it's a point not focused on aside from an off hand comment by Aizawa. You'd think this would make him examine whether or not his beliefs are truly benefiting his students or have Nedzu call him up and say, "what's up with your class consistently underperforming against 1B?"

Best Jeanist is perhaps the ONLY Pro-Hero to see Bakugou's behavior for what it is and takes him as an intern to rectify it... but proceeds to focus on all the wrong things (his style being the main one) and not really get to the core of his goal.

Society as a whole doesn't trust heroes for a myriad of reasons (some unreasonably, some for extremely valid reasons) and are painted as being unfair and incredibly biased against heroes as a whole.

Izuku leaves UA due to AFO having Ragdoll's Quirk, is essentially ganged up on and beaten/shamed into submission by Class 1A who completely disregard his POV (I don't agree with him putting himself in this position, I'm just pointing how it makes sense narratively).

Me, trying to make sense of all of this -

Like... how is your story supposed to be nuanced and your characters three-dimensional if you paint the complainer as always in the wrong?

About Kalego and Iruma’s secret.

I have seen the scans of chapter 305.

And

Opera, Balam and Sullivan should put Kalego in the secret about Iruma. Should tell him. Before he discovers it by himself and feels betrayed. 

While a big part of me hope and think that it will not change his affection (because there are affection, even if he denies it) and respect for Iruma, he could thinks that Balam and Opera have had fun toward him (especially after the familiar ritual in the beginning ofthe second year). And that they knew what was going to happen when he would ask Iruma to call a new familiar (so that HE would be called again).

While he would probably understand why Iruma said nothing (because he fears to be eaten), he would take it more badly toward the one who kept that secret of him. He could feel betrayed. And it could dammage his relation with his best friend if he learns that Blam knew since almost the beginning.

Trust can be a fragile thing. And Kalego doesn’t seem to have a lot of true friends.

Really telling him the truth NOW could be beneficial for them. Because now Kalego has doubts after Narnia’s words about Iruma. Kalego will probably observes Iruma even more now. Kalego knows that human exists, since his brother work on the demon border patrol. And how much time until he understand now that he will wonders “what about iruma”, because Kalego IS smart!?(the kid called a demon as familiar, the kid never flies, he does magic only since he has the ring, the kid is too much soft for a demon) Before he thoughts that Iruma was too soft right, but now he could wonder “what narnia wants me to see, why iruma…” and looks at his student even more.

If they tell him (everything, inclued that Iruma’s parents SOLD him to Sullivan after have abused him), he would probably be pissed, feeling kinda betrayed by Balam BUT would take it better that by understanding by himself and thinks that his friends made fun of him since all this time (wrong, at least for Balam) or that Sullivan had had a tamtrum about “having a kid” and steal a human. 

Because i’m sure that for him, nothing would change, Iruma is still his student and his contract with him force him to protect him, a pact can’t be broken after all. of course he would protect him and not only because of the familiar pact.

Really it mostly would do damages to his relation with Sullivan, Opera (well he already despite him XD) and Balam. Not the one with Iruma.

Yeah, Narnia just told Kalego that sending Atori to Babyls, knowing what he was in reality and what he could do, was necessary.

I mean, that's normal.

Atori has:

1) Caused havoc 2) Tried to push a student (Sabnock) so deep in his wicked phase that it could have triggered a return to origins for him. 3) Tried to kill other 5 students (Allocer and the four first years with him) 4) Almost kidnapped another student (Iruma).

And when Kalego asks his brother about Atori, probably hoping that Narnia didn't know, he has "it was necessary" as answer + a admission that "yeah i know what this guy was but i knew that you could deal with it =)".

He's right to be angry and dissatisfied with Narnia's answer. There are nothing wrong with it. No matter how he loves and respects his brother, Narnia still admitted to have send Atori and Shiida in Babyls while knowing fully what could happen. He puts children, Kalego's students, in danger. And he doesn't apologize or seems to regret it.

Welp, that's time to put Kalego in the group of demons who know Iruma's secret. Because otherwise he will 100% discovers it by himself. Just with what Narnia has implied, Kalego could guess a lot of things after have thought about it.

He's already the father figure, better tell him.

Also yeah i feel that, in the future, Kalego will fight his brother to protect (HIS Cub Kid) Iruma

you know i wasn't expecting another almost-reveal but man im not worried about kalego at all. especially with his conversation with narnia just now. he clearly disagrees with narnia even while he doesn't fully understand what's going on -

- and above all babyls and the students he's to protect are still his first priority -

- and though finding out that iruma is human would stir shit up iruma is still in the end a student at babyls, and also kalego's 'master' (so they're a bit closer than a normal student is to their teacher) and as such kalego is like. so so low on my list of people likely to kill iruma or hurt him over him being human.

(plus that scene where kalego is like yeah we both don't got proper Bloodline Magic but don't let that hold you back. like he sees a bit of himself in iruma so that at least must stay his hand)

anyway narnia is so sketchy how comes he's been working with the fingers for that long, huh???
