Fire and Smoke

This year Southern Oregon experienced weeks and weeks of thick, oppressive smoke from wildfires. We often experience smoke in the summers because we are in a valley surrounded by vast forests. Railroad Tracks and Clouds Painted back in the spring from when the grass was green and the air was clear. Railroad tracks that run near my neighborhood. I'll show it in September at Project Space, along with a bunch of other new paintings.

I’ve been getting pretty excited about the nuances of earth tones. I’m really enjoying the range that comes from careful mixing of earth colors, aside from the dandelions, which require a punchy cadmium.

Music Brown and Other Browns I've been getting pretty excited about the nuances of earth tones. I'm really enjoying the range that comes from careful mixing of earth colors, aside from the dandelions, which require a punchy cadmium.

Created in late 2017 and 2018, this series uses mostly earth based colors: ochres, siennas, umbers. Earth colors are highly durable and should remain stable for a long, long, long time. For instance – ancient cave paintings are made with earth colors. I tried to mix them in a way that maximizes their saturation, reducing the need for modern pigments.
