It's Nicer to Inspire

Ahhhh social media - the number of times I have trolled my news feed and been affronted with extreme opinions and emotional outbursts, have been many. And what does happen with the information we share on these sites? Yes, the unknown quantity is a concern and has been well documented – but you know what? The social media platform has allowed me to communicate with and meet people from all over the world

Eight years ago, I joined Facebook and instantly was reunited with a bunch of old high school friends. While this is enough to make most folks cringe, I was secretly a bit pleased. Within two days of joining, an old mate contacted me and I found out she was traveling to my city the next week –I got to catch up with her when she was in town. Our entire school reunion was organised on a Facebook events page… Thanks Facebook!

Around the same time, I started Belly Dancing, and over the years I have linked with contacts all over the world, on you guessed it – Facebook. Everyday I have a platform to see what my dance friends are up to, and I can keep up to date with events that are taking place. Once again, thanks Facebook!

Each day I log into my feed, the emotional rants that social media is famous for are far outweighed. Instead, I am taken on world travels with friends fortunate to be in other, more exotic parts of the world. The artists I follow fill me with inspirational music, words and comments. Individuals are linking to inspire each other and share ideas – is social media the root of all evil? I’d like to think it can be used to create and inspire as well.
