“Fuck no. I got bitten by one. Well, more like mauled.” Scarlet sighs. She can tell that the woman is eying her, but she interprets that as wariness and not curiosity. It wasn’t unwarranted – she was a werewolf, after all, and could eat her whole. “I wouldn’t say it was a ‘power’. It’s more like a curse that I can use to my advantage sometimes.” Scarlet is trying to stay lighthearted about that, still a bit mortified by it all.
“Right...” The existence of real werewolves in dually noted, if with a slight pang of unease. “It’s just -- this part of town attracts of a lot wannabe superheroes, and people like me who have the powers and the know-how but didn’t quite make the cut for the Avengers, you know?”

Jet lagged and hungover, Jessica hauled herself up onto one of the empty bar stools. For the entire flight from New York to LA it wasn’t clear whether this trip was about running away from her problems or looking for answers, but as per the usual stubborn diligence, she’d barely stepped out of the airport before she was pulling a crumpled wad of paper from her jacket pocket.
LUX was one of the hottest clubs in town, owned by one of the hottest public figures in the LA area: Lucifer Morningstar. She had done some digging and what came up were favours; he made things -- big things, and some small things -- happen for people. She already knew one asshole like that and was reluctant to meet another but the faint bright side was that Morningstar mostly seemed to be paying it forward to the people he thought deserved it. Still, there was some lofty God Complex about that sort of thing that irked her, not to mention the fact that he was connected to a few too many of her leads on Kilgrave.
She scuffed the footrest of the stool with her boots, arms crossed and waiting.

Scarlet feels like she’s going to get an earful from her boss and she sighs, hanging up and looking at the track pants and shirt. “I really do. You could’ve probably killed me, put me in animal control…and now you’re giving me clothes.”
They fit decently well and she rather likes the fabric and how comfy they are. She sits back on the couch, tucking in her legs. “Some people are coming by to pick me up. I’ll be out of your hair soon.”
Jessica nods and sits to slouch into couch cushions too. She eyes the woman now and then -- more out of interest than any real fear of being attacked again. She might not know how werewolves work but she’s fairly sure they only do the wolf thing once for the month. Maybe the woman can will it, too. Jessica’s not really keen to find that out.
“Is being a werewolf... something that just happened to you, like a power?” she asks, trying to wrap her head around the idea that there might be real werewolves; the kinds that bite and infect humans. That would mean another kind of... other kind.
Fitz was already working on a sharp response, frowning deeply, when they were rudely interrupted by a body landing seemingly out of the sky between them. Deep red limbs were at all angles, eyes staring out sightlessly, and Fitz cursed wildly, belatedly leaping back with an apparently complete lack of survival instinct.
“Christ! What the bloody fuck!” Whipping his head back, Fitz looked upwards to what was essentially bare sky, then back to Jessica- flummoxed, “What the hell??”
Fumbling with the flap on her messenger bag, Jessica pried it open to rummage for her camera and thermos, briefly tucking the camera under her arm as she unscrewed the cap on the thermos for a drink, peering around the stainless steel container either way up the sidewalk. Holding the whiskey out to Fitz next, she snapped a few photographs of the fallen alien.
“Pretty convenient that there’s suddenly nobody else on this street... Usually stays busy until after the bars close. We should get out of here. My apartment’s a few blocks -- or more if there are extra aliens,” she deadpanned, jerking her thumb over her shoulder and grabbing her booze back as she started walking. “We’re probably sitting ducks here already...”
Rhys nods his head and shrugs. “People usually pay me to shut the fock up.” Rhys smirks and then once his pint come back to him he takes a good sip and lets out a good sigh. “So other than like, Broadway, anything fun about New York, or is it all the same?”
Rhys leans against his hand and his elbow is on the bar now. Turned toward her to make sure she had his attention.
“It’s a dump and a cesspool,” Jessica assures him. “But it’s home. Nobody who comes to New York for Broadway comes into Hell’s Kitchen. Nobody who isn’t born-and-raised in Hell’s Kitchen comes into Hell’s Kitchen, unless they’re here to make a living off the scum. That’s why I’m here. -- That and I’m poor as shit.”
