Ok Good omens finale analysis. (Spoilers)
It was rushed, obviously. And that’s what makes it seem off, and more disappointing than it is.
But overall, it’s the ending I thought was gonna happen. It fits thematically.
Crowley and Aziraphale only loved each other, BECAUSE they loved humanity. Almost every time they saw each other from the beginning, they (mainly Crowley) talked about how humans deserved better.
Crowley loved humans. Their creativity, their ability to love and hate, grow and change.
Aziraphale, even in his selfishness, loved humans just as much. He thought heaven was good, that the plan was right. Yet he still went against it when humanity would get hurt. He was the first angel to lie to god. And for what? For humans.
Crowley and Aziraphale fell in love with humanity as much as they did each other. The only reason they could sit down together with a couple wine glasses at the Ritz, was because HUMANS made that.
They didn’t just fall in love, they fell in love on earth.
But that world was God’s. And God had told their stories. it was over.
And all they wanted in the end was to give humanity a chance to truly be free, free to love and hate, to ask questions, without fear. A chance they never had.
Even if they could never be around to see it. They knew what they were giving up for their perfectly imperfect world.
They did get to see it. Maybe not THEM as they were. but a piece of them exists on their earth. And every other planet in that multiverse.
Maybe if you put all the Asa and Anthony’s back together, you would get the originals. Their love was so strong, that not a single mortal entity could hold it all. Imagine a love so powerful that instead of dying, it scatters across the multiverse.
It kinda feels like ‘the little mermaid’ in a way. Our little mermaid couldn’t bring herself to kill her beloved prince. So she sacrificed herself, knowing she had no eternal soul like a human. She would disappear into nothingness because it was the right thing to do.
But because of her love, she was made an air spirit in reward for her sacrifice.
It’s bittersweet, but the ending I saw coming. The ending we needed, if not the one we wanted.
