Scene: At the Hospital
“Good. I want him to get to hang out with all his awesome gay uncles tomorrow,” he said, nudging Seb with a grin. “Besides, there’s a male nurse who works in the NICU who I’m pretty sure is gay, and since we have to maximize skin contact you’ll have an opportunity to show off those abs when it’s your turn to hold Parker.” He winked.
His face softened and he felt a little misty-eyed at Sebastian’s reassurance. “Thanks. I…thanks, Seb.”
Oh, so Cooper did want him here. To see the baby. To hold Parker in his arms. He was excited about it, honestly. "Oh really?" Sebastian asked, grinning. "Is the nurse hot? I'll get shirtless anyway, I do like showing off."
He leaned to give him a quick hug. "I mean it, Coop. Park is the luckiest kid to have you as a dad." He smiled softly. "Okay, I'll stop with the sappy stuff now."
Scene: At the Hospital
“You don’t have to, Seb, this will hold me for the night. And I think they already had dinner. But maybe you could come by tomorrow? The nurse said we get to hold him tomorrow.” He smiled in anticipation. He would get to actually hold his son, feel his tiny body against his chest, kiss his tiny head.
“Sebastian.” Cooper sat up a little straighter, looking at his friend in bewilderment. “I’m a father.”
"Of course I will." Sebastian smiled back. He didn't ask if he could hold the baby also, he didn't think he should. This was Cooper and Sarah's baby. Seb wasn't related to them, he was only the roommate. The friend. Besides, Sarah and Kurt and Blaine wouldn't be comfortable with him in the same room.
But he continued to smile. "You're going to be the most fantastic dad, y'know."
Scene: At the Hospital
Cooper rolled his eyes and snorted at the endearment. “I would be just fine, thank you very much. I have plenty of practice living on pizza and chocolate milk.” But his happy groan belied his defense as he took another bite.
“Seriously, this is so good. I haven’t had real food in two days.” He wolfed down some more, not caring that he probably looked disgusting—he was too hungry for it to matter. When he finished up the majority of the food he sucked in a deep breath and leaned his head back for just a minute, his arm resting in his lap, fork and tupperware still in hand. “You have a good day?”
"Clearly," Sebastian said, grinning. He couldn't help but stare with the corner of his eyes as the other man devoured his food. "I can come by again later tonight with some more food," he told him. "I can bring food for Sarah's folks if they're still here."
Bas shrugged. "I guess," he replied. "It's my day off, so I've been lying around and watching tv. Nothing new."
Scene: At the Hospital
Cooper hugged him back gratefully and moaned happily when he saw the food. “Oh my gosh, Sebastian, you are the best.” He took a long sip of the coffee (so much better than the hospital cafeteria’s) and nodded his head toward the NICU. “Come on, we’ll go sit in the family lounge.”
He led Sebastian down the hallway and into a room with couches, a television, and a small kitchen setup. The room was empty right now, so Coop sank into the couch and swung his feet onto the coffee table, pulling the pasta container open eagerly. “Mmmm,” he said after the first bite. “This is amazing. You’re such a good cook, Seb.”
Sebastian followed his friend into the lounge, then sat on the couch next to him. He smiled at Cooper when he started eating, feeling a lot better that he was able to help the man in some way. "Oh what would you ever do without me and my A plus cooking skills, babe?" He threw a playful wink at Coop as he took a sip of his coffee, almost wishing he brought biscottis.
Scene: At the Hospital
“Cooper?”
He lifted his head from the incubator and glanced at the door. Sarah’s mother was holding his phone up and toward him. “It beeped,” she said.
“Oh. Thanks.” With one last look at his sleeping son—his son—he pulled his hand away, already missing the contact. He took the phone with a nod and read Sebastian’s text. “It’s my roommate. He’s here but he didn’t want to barge in.”
“He’s back again?” she asked, eyebrows raised. “That boy was here all day yesterday. He’s a pretty dedicated roommate.”
Cooper chuckled. “Yeah, he’s a great friend. I’m gonna go find him, I’ll be back soon.” He frowned at the incubator. “Ma, would you—?”
“I’ll keep him company, sweetie. You go find your friend.”
Cooper smiled his thanks and went down the hall to the waiting room. He poked his head in and spotted Sebastian pretty quickly.
“Hey,” he said, squeezing his shoulder in greeting. “What’re you doing here?”
Sebastian went in for a hug, briefly rubbing Cooper's back before he pulled away. "Hi. I was just...well I don't know how you've been surviving on hospital food, so I made some pasta and got you coffee." He grabbed the coffee and food from the table that sat in the middle of the room and handed it to Coop, smiling softly.
Scene: At the Hospital
Cooper had been at the hospital for almost thirty hours. He hadn’t slept other than a short nap in the on-call room (one he was very familiar with from his days as a resident) and he had only eaten disappointing cafeteria and vending machine food. It had been an exhausting two days, and Coop was ready for it all to be over.
He leaned his forehead against the top of Parker’s incubator and stared down at his son. He held one hand softly over the boy’s stomach, holding it steady instead of stroking because the nurses had said that the movement might irritate his sensitive skin. His eyes were closed, but Cooper could picture them clearly, the brightest blue framed by tiny eyelashes. It was the most beautiful sight Cooper had ever seen.
Parker moved his arms very slightly, his tiny hands brushing against Cooper’s finger in his sleep. He was hooked up to a respirator that would need to stay on for at least a week, maybe longer. There was also a small feeding tube that pumped Sarah’s breast milk into his system until he was able to take it himself.
He was so small (only 3 lbs 7 oz) he couldn’t breathe or eat without help.
It broke Cooper’s heart.
Sebastian didn't feel right being at home when his best friend has been staying at the hospital for almost two days already, but he couldn't skip work even if he badly wanted to, plus he had loads of studying to do. He went home after the baby was born, and only had a couple of hours of sleep before he had to go to work. But he was exhausted from being worried rather than the lack of sleep.
It was Sunday afternoon when Seb decided to check up on Cooper. He just couldn't stay at home in a comfortable bed when he knew that Coop barely slept and probably hardly ate. So he made some pasta salad then got a couple of coffees on the way. Once Seb went inside and got to the waiting room, he sent Cooper a quick text to let him know he was here. He didn't want to go in Sarah's room unless he was asked to.
Scene: Troublesome News
We’re on our way. Okay. Meet you there. Bye. *hangs up the phone and immediately receives a text from Blaine* Damn it. *looks up at Sebastian* Sarah’s in labor. I don’t— *looks around frantically* I need my shoes. Can you drive? I don’t think I can— *looks under the couch* *hit’s Blaine’s name on speed dial—he can’t concentrate enough to text right now*
*bites his lip, looking concerned at his friend* Uh, yeah. Yeah, of course. *gets up from the couch and he grabs his wallet and keys, slipping on his shoes* Coop. *lightly touches his shoulder and calmly speaks to him--panicking won't help* Your shoes are by the door. C'mon.
Scene: Troublesome News
*eating a bowl of cereal on the couch, watching last week’s episode of Doctor Who, when his phone rings* *glances down and frowns—it’s Sarah’s mother* Hello? *sits up straighter and mutes the TV—she sounds upset* Hey, hey, it’s okay. Calm down. What’s going on? *she pauses and it sounds like she might be crying* We’re on our way to the hospital. Sarah’s going into labor. *jumps up from the couch, looking at Sebastian in a panic* What! Are you—but she’s not due for seven weeks!
*is sitting with Cooper munching on chips* *glances at Coop picking up the phone, then he's staring at him when he jumps from the couch* Sarah's going into labor?!

Classes haven't killed you yet? Mine start this afternoon. Not looking forward to the coming homework.
Classes? Please. It's work that's killing me. Why does work exist? Why am I working? I'm rich, I shouldn't be doing this.

Coop: Yes? If you want to, I mean. But...the more I think about it, the better it sounds. We're practically roommates anyway. We spend like all our free time together and you sleep here more often than you do at your place. Might as well make it official.
Sebastian: Yeah...yeah, that makes sense. But...
Sebastian: We should talk about this in person. I'll come by tomorrow after my last class. :)

Sebastian: You really want me to move in with you?
