Don't take my word for it log onto the STF and the Government of Saskatchewan websites and have a peek at the numbers yourself. It might just be that if we dig deep enough we will all realize just how hard those politicians work to make sure that teachers, health care workers, postal workers and many more don't get too much money, while at the same time ensuring their own pockets don't take too big of a beating!

Less questionable, however, is the sentiment from teachers that they don't have quite as much trust in Wall as they once did. And it's a sentiment that might very well be growing in certain sectors of the province.

The teachers' request at just over five per cent a year is very modest. The government's offer of less than two per cent a year is an insult. No matter how this dispute ends, the stench of disrespect brought to it by the government will last for a long time.

After being stripped of their authority to set mill rates locally, school boards in the province have been operating under a baseline budget set in 2009.

Ray Morrison, chairman of the Saskatoon public school board, says the funding uncertainty over the past two years has made it difficult to plan for the future.

I can't understand why this isn't more of an issue in the news. The Sask Party was so eager to promote the fact that they took over all control of the education taxes in the province and reduced agricultural land tax by 80%, several years behind replacing the old system with a model that helps growing schools plan for the future.

Could it be that they don't want Saskatchewan taxpayers to see how their taxes will be affected?

Or maybe it will be easier to blame tax increases on teachers wages while ignoring the fact the government has not been keeping up with the increased costs of education. Using the 2009 baseline would not provide adequate funding for schools with growing student numbers and the massive curriculum renewal which is requiring schools to purchase new textbooks and resources.

While both the Catholic and Public school divisions were promised to have the new funding formula in place this year, the Wall Government has caused greater financial insecurity for both school divisions by delaying the funding formula beyond the 2011 election.

The French school division had asked the court for an interim order against the Saskatchewan government, claiming that it was underfunding French language schooling and shirking its charter responsibilities.

The simple fact is that for the CSF, a cut of $2.3 million is almost a 10 per cent reduction in its operating budget," Chicoine said

The CSF says the francophone student population in Saskatchewan has grown 30 per cent over the past 10 years, and it's running out of space at its flagship Regina school, Ecole Monseigneur de Laval.

Will be nice when the government has a funding model for education. Something that has been lacking since March 2009 when the government assumed direct control of amount of property tax used for education.
