âFrustrated Rageâ

One of the advantages of not having magic was that it was easier to be around another witch without them sensing her magic. She had been watching the Good Queen for weeks. Â
Regina was walking back to her house on Miflin street from Grannyâs on a rainy evening when she decided to approach her.
âHello, Your Majesty.â
Regina had enjoyed a nice dinner with Snow and was heading back home when she heard the familiar voice and it brought her up short.Â
âWell hello Dear,â her gaze took in the woman who approached her, âand which version of me are you?â
âHow would I know that?â
She asked amused with a raised eyebrow. She was wearing a mix of garments but a long duster and a pair of good practical boots. In her pocket she was holding a knife.
âI understand you killed Queen Snow.â
She didnât care about the king.
âAhh. That would make you the me from the wish realm. I wondered when youâd show up.â
Reginaâs magic buzzed in her hands, but she held it in check. She was ready for anything from this woman. Still, when she spoke, her voice showed her regret.
âIâm afraid I did. Due to some very complicated circumstances, I didnât think of her as a real person.â She also hadnât intended to squeeze their hearts so hard, but she wouldnât use that as an excuse. Â
âThen I think itâs fair that I donât treat you like a real person.â
In the years since sheâd lost her magic sheâd become quite good with a knife and it wasnât nearly as easy as one might thing for the queen to stop her. The knife was enchanted against magic.
The queen growled softly when Regina attacked her. She really didnât want it to be this way.
It became apparent that magic wasnât going to work against the knife, but that didnât mean she couldnât use magic against other things in the vicinity. She quickly turned the pavement beneath Regina to ice and used the limbs from nearby trees to wrap her up as she slipped.Â
Once the fight was over, the queen picked up the knife and shook her head as she looked at it. âWell, Iâll give you points for coming prepared. Unfortunately for you, Iâve had many experiences with would-be assassins.â
The knife was well made and sat comfortably in the queenâs hand. Like it was made for her. Regina growled from her prison of of limbs. She had clearly had a bit of a harder life than Regina and had a fair bit of grey in her hair.
âSnow deserved someone to avenge her.â
âI wonât argue with you there,â Regina actually had felt pretty guilty for killing that Snow after she found out that the realm still existed after they left, âthough I admit, Iâm surprised that you wanted to.â Since Snow was the reason this Regina was without her magic.
âBelieve me when I say that I felt awful about her death, but Iâm not going to let you kill me.â
âNo one else was left to do it.â
She said firmly. And it was very clear that Regina had no intention of not attacking the queen simply because she showed remorse.
âWell, yes, as her daughter and grandson are here and have no desire to see me dead.â Though it had been touch and go with Henry at first.
âI can tell that if I let you go, you are just going to try again, soâŚâ The queen waved her hand and transported them to her castle. Regina was in a cell - a comfortable one, at least - and the queen was outside the door. âIf you learn how to be reasonable, I will free you. If you donâtâŚâ she shrugged. The message was clear.
She let out a frustrated rage and actually tried to reach for the queen between the bars.  âIâm not that easy to keep locked up, dear.â
The queen stood back far enough that Regina couldnât reach her. âI seem to have heard that somewhere before.â
She shook her head. âYou can try to escape, but the magical wards are very strong. You arenât my first prisoner.â
She sighed and calmed down stepping back from the bars and then moving as far into the cell as she could putting her back against the wall.
There was something incredibly tired about this Regina.
She watched her go, a little pity showing through before she schooled her features. The queen was sure Regina would hate her pity.Â
âI know that we love nothing better than to cling to our revenge fantasies, but things really will go better for you if you let yours go,â she said quietly. Then she turned and left. The guards that were assigned to attend to the prisoner werenât mean but it was clear that she wouldnât be winning them away from the queen.
The next day, Regina had a new visitor. It was Snow.Â
