Adventure 1.5: What to do for Adventure 2? Part 2

So I think i’m going to be ambitions and try to get 2 small cosplays (one being and Eeveelution, one being another pokemon) While doing a bigger cosplay that involves making armor (Something I’ve never done before).

What is the armor from you ask?

I am a big fan of Dragon Age: Inquisition and I was thinking of doing a cosplay of my Elf Mage Tasha I absolutely love her armor right now but I think I’m going to change up her staff from a fairly simple staff to a more interesting staff that I like (Although weaker, definitely prettier). I’ll post pictures soon!

If anyone has suggestions of how I should make armor and patterns from scratch, anything would be appreciated! Thank y'all !!!

Adventure 1.5: What to do for Adventure 2?

Originally I was suppose to have 3 Cosplays for Adventure 1, but work took over my life and I partly got lazy. So I only did one as you saw. So I do have the stuff to make 2 other Pokemon which I won’t reveal yet who they are. While making Eevee I was talking with a friend and decided I want to complete all Eeveelutions. The decision is how do I do all 8 Eeveelutions. For those of you who don’t know the Eeveeltions here they are:

Generation I Eeveelutions:

#134 Vaporeon: Water Pokemon

#135 Jolteon: Electric Pokemon

#136 Flareon: Fire Pokemon

Generation II Eeveelutions:

#196 Espeon: Psychic Pokemon

#197 Umbreon: Dark Pokemon

Generation IV Eeveelutions:

#470 Leafeon: Grass Pokemon

#471 Glaceon: Ice Pokemon

Generation VI Eeveelution:

#700 Sylveon: Fairy Pokemon

I can either go in order of generation or just do them as I feel fit. I guess either way doesn’t really matter. All I really care about is getting all 8 of them done over the next few years, plus we are looking to attend more that just AWA next year.

What does everyone think I should do?

Adventure 1: Pokemon: Eevee: Part 5: Finished Cosplay AWA

Walked in on a Pokemon shoot I immediately got invited too! Everyone at AWA was so friendly I hope to return next year!

Had an amazing dessert at the Kuma Kuma Cafe at AWA! Our server was Mami!

Lastly I had to take pictures with my amazing boyfriend for whom this whole trip couldn’t have happened <3 I love you KCR <3

Adventure 1: Pokemon: Eevee: Part 4: Finished Cosplay Pre-AWA

After months of hard work, which came down to the last 2 weeks because like I said work took over my life for a good while in the mist of creating this cosplay. But with hard work I got Eevee together and I couldn’t be more proud of my own creation!

The only part of the cosplay I hadn’t fully decided on before AWA was my makeup and if I wanted to straighten my hair or not...Decisions Decisions...

Adventure 1: Pokemon: Eevee: Part 3: The Accessories

To complete the Eevee look I made a list. I had to make ears, a fur collar, a big tail, and I decided to do fur ankle/boot cuffs, wrist cuffs and fur trimmed gloves.

I started with the ears, I decided the best way would be to make the ears put wire in them so they would have stability and I could pose them plus it would be easier to attach the ears to a headband in turn making them easier to wear for hours.

I took scrap fabric from the dress for the outer ear along with solid brown fabric for the inner ear and sewn them together then I bent a large gauge floral wire to fit in the ears before stuffing the ears with poly-fil. Then I attached them to another matching scrap fabric which I then hot glued to the headband. Once complete I added hot glue to the inner band of the headband where it would sit on the sides of my head so it would have grip when wearing so I could move and wouldn’t have to worry about the large ears slipping off and moving a whole lot. 

I a lotted extra scrap fabric for a 2nd set if the 1st set failed, I got lucky and my first set worked really well. I will admit if you look close (mostly underside where they were attached to the headband) isn’t the prettiest, but hey they look pretty good for not really knowing what I was doing.

After completion of the ears I knew it was that time again, time to make my house look like I murdered another bunny. Yes that time, fur time. I decided I would do the tail next seeing as I wasn’t 100% sure how I was going to do it. When I first decided to do Eevee I thought I would do a pure fur tail but after carful evaluation I realized that I would have to dye or paint part of the fur to make it darker cause Eevee yes has a full fur tail but its not all one color. Then I went though scrap fabric from the dress and found one solid piece I could use to cut out the tail from and add a fur tip. I knew this wouldn’t be easy but I figured it out. How? Making my own paper pattern!

Like I said before always cut larger than your homemade pattern just to be safe. I knew this tail was going to be big no matter what. Eevee’s tail and collar are her most distinguishing features. Once I made the pattern I cut a piece of paper to make the fur tip which in turn I cut out 2 pieces to cover up the tip of the tail. I then had to figure out the best way to sew the fur onto the tail. After looking at the fabric/fur I had I decided I would mostly sew the fur on with my machine but to hide the seems I could only do part of it the what I would call “fur spikes” I had to hand sew so the seems would be hidden. And I was having the most difficult time until I realized “Hey! Why not use my cross-stitch hoops”. One of my more ingenious ideas!

Once I finished the hand stitching I put the two pieces right sides together and machine sewn the tail together, flipped right side out, stuffed and sewn it closed. I should note I also but a floral wire frame in the tail to give a little more shape to the tail. Now I faced yet another obstacle I didn’t think of at first. How was I going to attach the tail to the dress or how would I be able to wear the tail? I looked up a bunch of cosplay tutorials on attaching/wearing tails and came up with 2 straps attached to the base of the tail then put a belt through it to wear it comfortably. But how do I wear the tail on a belt and make it look apart of the costume. MORE FUR which was hot glued to a belt I got with one of my many dresses that I didn’t really use anymore.

The last of the accessories were ALL FUR the big collar, 2 sets of cuffs ones for my wrists, ones for my ankles/boots and then I bought a pair of evening gloves and added fur trim to them. The collar was up in the air on how i was going to do it, I decided to cut out 6 triangles 2 larger than the others for the front panel the other 4 for the side panels. I sewed each set of triangles to each other right side together then flipped them right-side out and decided not to fill them with poly-fil because they were already really fluffy. So instead I hand sewed each triangle together to make the collar.

Both sets of cuffs were done in the same manner, I cut elastic to the size of my wrists and I did my upper leg where the boot fit so it would cuff the top of my boots if I chose to wear them if not they would sit around my ankles with the flats I might also chose to wear. Once the elastic was cut I then hot glued fur to them then hand sewed the two ends together. For the gloves I just cut out a piece of fur to fit the opening of the gloves and hot glued the fur to them.

Adventure 1: Pokemon: Eevee: Part 2: The Making of the Dress

As I mentioned in Part 1, the decision to make the dress was easy. Starting the dress was in NO WAY a walk in the park.

Resizing a pattern from a 16 to 6 took a good hour to two hours. In total there were about 10 paper pieces that needed to be resized to make the 15 pieces to the dress. Once all pieces were cut out I decided to rough pin the dress to Sally to see how much wiggle room I had when sewing the dress together.

Clearly you can tell the dress is larger for Sally (She is fully adjustable to match my measurements perfect.) Looking at the rough pin not only did I realized how big the dress still was, the skit was also really long so I knew before finishing the skirt I would have to cut a solid 2-4 inches off to make it comfortable for myself. Also I noticed Sally didn’t really fill the dress out, so I decided to give her a quick boob job.

What better way than with a strapless bra that was just sitting in a drawer. Much cheaper than going to the store and buying bra padding you can get from the craft section and gluing it to her. Using the bar means if my bust changes hers will too easily.

See how much better Sally fills out the Bodice of the dress? ***REMEMBER THIS TIP***

Before I actually started sewing the dress together, the job I had at the time took over my life for a solid 2-3 months so there was big gap where the dress sat like this on Sally in the corner of my dining room. But once I got started sewing the dress came together like a charm.

Discloser! I DID NOT follow the pattern instructions when sewing this dress in anyway shape or form, seeing I altered the pattern so much this dress was basically my own and I sewed it together how I felt was best for me.

I stared with the bodice and the belt as sown above then I cut down the skirts and pinned it together. Pictured about was under skirt to show the length attached to the bodice when finished there would be 2 skirts (Pictures to follow).

Both skirts are now pinned to bodice the next step would be probably the best/worst part of this project (Yes something was worse than sizing a pattern down 10+ Sizes). If you’ve never cut fur before, it is TERRIBLE!!!

Sure this picture looks all nice and cute and fluffy but the aftermath I kept saying looked like I murdered a bunny (By the end of the entire project it looked like a family of bunnies was murdered).

This was the only picture I took, it got worse and it trailed all over the house. Thank god we don’t have any pets that live with us, I could see this being so much worse with a cat or dog running around tracking the fur EVERYWHERE!

Back to the dress, what could I possibly be doing with fur? Originally the fur was only to be used for Eevees fluffy tail and collar but I being a crafty girl decided “Hey why not use it for a trim on the skit?!” Easier said than done. Cutting the fur really wasn't hard sewing it MUCH harder. But hey I don’t think I did a bad job, do you?

Oh and I missed the picture of putting in the zipper too, I’ve done zippers before but nothing like this one, I think its called an “invisible zipper” much harder to put in than I would have ever thought but once it was in I was probably the happiest girl (you can tell in the picture below) :D

Perfect custom dress for the start of Eevee, knowing this is the start of Eevee you can see it but not knowing what this dress is for you’d probably be like wtf? Why is there fur on the bottom of a beautiful dress. (Yes I got asked that a lot through dms on other social medias) I was kind of hiding my design till I knew it would come together.

Next to come are the accessories to bring the costume together, which include; ears on a headband, collar, tail, gloves and both wrist and ankle cuffs.

Adventure 1: Pokemon: Eevee: Part 1: Decisions and Complications

What is Cosplay?

The practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime.

What are Pokemon?

The word "Pokemon" is a contraction of two Japanese words, "Poketto" and "Monsut?," or "Pocket Monsters" in English.

Who is Eevee?

Eevee is Pokemon #133, in Japan is called Eievui meaning “Evolve.” Though out the generations of Pokemon Eevee has adapted 8 evolutions known in fandom as “Eeveelutions” (We will get more to those in another post).

Why did I choose for my cosplay Pokemon Eevee?

Pokemon since coming to America in September of 1998 has always been close to my heart. I as an animal lover from a young age was intrigued by the Pokemon being cute, cuddly sometimes strong and scary but always interesting. But as far as choosing to Cosplay Eevee the decision was easy I always loved her because she is probably the most unique Original Pokemon. Yes most Pokemon evolve into another stage or two, but Eevee is different, she turns into originally 3 now 8 different Pokemon all different types. Plus it was a Cosplay I didn’t have to do anything to my hair, as a redhead with super thick hair at a medium to long length there was no getting my hair into a wig.

Once the decision of what/who I was going to be was done, the next obstacle I faced was: where to begin? Where else then a idea heaven called “Pinterest” gather ideas of what other people may have done or drawn up as fan art.

These are some of the pictures I found and based my own cosplay off of. 

With the pictures I found I had decided to do a dress (My favorite piece of clothing). Easy right? Not so much when the dress pattern I bought at a going out of business sale was sizes 16-22 and I wear a size 4-6. Quick math lesson the smallest size the pattern was, is 10-12 sizes larger than myself. Whats a girl to do?

In a panic I call my mother a self taught seemstress whom I believe can do anything, she's stumped she's never had to resize a pattern so we talk it over and finally I have an idea and she thinks it will work so I go to town resizing the pattern 10 sizes and once its down to a size 6 if I needs alteration I will do it to the final dress.
