"WHOOO LET'S GO MOSSBAG USES THEY/THEM FOR ALL THE NONBINARY BUGS LET'S GO! He even correctly genders Phantom!"
"OH?? He's addressing the backlash from doubling down on saying that Phantom is a woman? No way this is amazing maybe people will finally start to accept all of the they/them characters- oh and he said that it's open to interpretation and up for debate."
The sheer disappointment I felt when I reached that part of mossbag's newest video was actually so shockingly bad. I wasn't sure if I was even gonna watch the new video but decided to because I wanted to see if he had changed and it was seeming to be going so well. He even used they/them for the Bell Beast. But when I heard him say that nonbinary characters are 'up for debate' I lost all respect all over again.
NONBINARY. CHARACTERS . ARE. NOT. UP. FOR. INTERPRETATION.
I can understand some confusion around characters like Styx who have both he/him and they/them used, but if a character is exclusively referred to with they/them, then there's no excuse for saying that one line of dialogue who it's not even clear who is speaking takes priority over Hornet's own words.
Remember, these aren't just characters to a lot of people. Nonbinary people already get so little representation, so please just let us have just a couple of characters to feel seen through.
Good for them!
I have lost all of the respect I once had for Mossbag, because he has conclusively taken the wiki mods' side in misgendering Phantom, saying on his discord he "believes Phantom is a woman".
If a self-proclaimed lore master straight-up denies the most basic, surface level information the game gives you, how can I trust that any of what they tell me in their videos is accurate, any of the lore they claim to comprehend? Trick question, I can't.
EDIT: Elaboration, he said he "believes Phantom is a female", which is honestly a way worse and way more telling thing to say, oh my lord
i am happy to say not he has rebutted this opinion in his latest silksong video, saying he was wrong to assume phantom is female in the silksong lore video. we win
Im pretty sure he did say their gender was "up to Player interpretation" though...
he said "it's more open-ended than I thought" im pretty sure. it's not the perfect answer that we wanted but better than nothing. im glad that he realises where he went wrong tho.

Headcanon: Hylian culture includes ear piercing as part of coming of age ceremonies. That's why Link, Zelda, and Beth all have their ears pierced in Twilight Princess (I think Beth probably just got hers done). Notably, Ilia doesn't - maybe she took hers out? Link from Breath of the Wild has his ears pierced but Zelda doesn't (since her first "adult" birthday was the next day).
