Good night, and good luck || Orion || Trial 4.10 || ATTN: Maestro
[♪♪♪]
Orion exhales.
So it’s finally over, at long last. The devil of a man with the cane had sentenced him to die, a fate that Orion wasn’t sure how he felt about. He’d been anticipating it for the last several hours - for the past few days, perhaps, ever since the first seed of the idea had sprouted in his mind. Unlike the others, who had supposedly killed by accident, he’d had plenty of time to stew over everything, to prepare himself for the inevitable. He’d resigned himself to his fate.
So why did he feel so bad?
He was, of course, quite at peace with everything. But something he couldn’t name had caused the pit in his stomach to deepen and his breath to catch in his throat.
He doesn’t have much time left, so he’d better make it quick.
“The fervor of the hunt is a dangerous thing, Schrodinger. In spite of everything… I got caught up in it. The imp of the perverse, I suppose it would be called.”
“I’m not a hero. I acted to save what was important to me, and only me, and I did it in a selfish way. For that, I know I’ll suffer…”
“But I’ll be fine. After all, I am… strong. Hah.”
This laugh sounds a little more choked than the others, and Orion tilts his head in order to conceal his facial expression. His countenance is beginning to shake as the reality of the situation descends upon him, dimming the corners of his vision.
There’s still one more thing that he has to do, though. And as tempting as it is, it’s not punching Theo. He’s already seen what would happen if he made that decision, and it still made his blood curdle just thinking about it.
“Mhmm… I can’t forget this.”
Orion rummages through one of his coat pockets before producing something. For a moment, he laconically examines the item in his hand as if to make sure that he has the right thing. Then, he passes the item - an unsealed envelope with an address scrawled on one side - to Maestro, of all people.
He smiles.
“I want you to take this. Don’t die before you can deliver it, alright?”
“Being able to do things others can’t, for their sake… maybe that’s what I was seeking all along. Heh.”
“I’m counting on you.”
