I love the Nay and Sonnett pairing so much. I know I’ve said this before but if you put Sonnett as a CB, she needs a player like Nay (or T) next to her. Part of Sonnett’s gift is her ability to switch between positions which, when she’s a CB, means she needs a bit more freedom to determine that play. She’s not afraid to take those risks, to track forward if she feels it’s needed, and to be a little bit unhinged in productive ways. Two CB’s of that wouldn’t work. Having Nay, a classic CB in every sense of the word, beside her is incredible. Nay is such a calm and understated presence who isn’t going to scrap as much, but she doesn’t need to. If one of them sees something going on they can jump in on, the other is immediately there to cover. Both have incredible positioning as individuals and collectively. They have incredible communication and are very different leaders but undeniable leaders nonetheless.
The best backline the USWNT can put out rn is Krueger-Girma-Sonnett-Fox and it’s not even a little bit close imo.
