✗ ABOUT Tricksters is a dark urban fantasy interactive fiction dealing with history, magic, gods and the supernatural underground set in 2019.
A month after the death of your mother, a farewell visit to your childhood home leads to a chance encounter with a group of mysterious strangers. Thrust into the supernatural underworld, you are given a chance to solve the mysterious disappearance of your father years before and perhaps even finish his work — searching for the Holy Grail.
✗ THE MAIN CHARACTER The main character is a native of New York City, a graduate of NYU. Having spent the past few years traveling and/or working out of state only to return when their mother falls ill about a year prior to the start of the story. Various degrees/occupations are available to pick that impact the MC’s starting skills (and occasionally dialogue) as well as the ability to choose your gender including a nonbinary option with they/them pronouns. Transgender men and women are of course included in the male and female categories and there will never be dialogue that specifies whether or not they are cisgender. Other options include sexuality, hair/eye/skin color and name.
✗ LOVE INTERESTS Tricksters offers four potential romances; all bisexual and available to MCs who are attracted to their gender.
Maxine Chevallier — A 5′8, mixed race French woman covered in magically imbued tattoos. She is the leader of the Tricksters and the daughter of a close colleague of your father’s during his search for the Holy Grail. Obsessed with her own father’s disappearance and the search for the Grail she is a well-educated, well-connected woman with a one-track mind. Charming, determined and of a softer heart than she would like to admit.
Erik Stendhal — The oldest of the Tricksters, Erik is a 6′5 Norwegian man with long blond hair often kept in a loose bun and a sleeve of black Viking tattoos on his right arm. He is gifted with the abilities of a shifter - a rare mutation that allows him to take the form of various animals though he favors a grey wolf. Often the voice of reason and peace, Erik also brings his connections to the table from his years of wandering the world as well as his own abilities in combat and tactics.
Arthur Kane — The ‘theological expert’ of the Tricksters; Arthur is a 6′ tall Irish vampire and ex-priest born during the Great Famine. He often has a scruffy brown beard rarely kept and short unkempt hair. He can be described as cynical and pragmatic with a silver tongue that rarely is used for anything but his or the Trickster’s gain. The more time he spends with the Tricksters, the more the soft parts of him become exposed much to his annoyance.
Hope Han — A 5′11 Chinese woman with striking deep brown eyes often garbed in all black lace. Hope is a mage and the magical expert of the Tricksters. Born of two notable magic bloodlines, she was raised in London underneath her older brother’s shadow. Eager to prove herself to both her family and herself; she is an arrogant confident and well-educated magic user with a vast font of arcane knowledge though her limited worldview and icy exterior can often rub others the wrong way.
