my head is filled with warm lake water.

one filled to the brim with amoebas, bacteria, and forgotten summers.

every memory arrived bloated, floated, face-down at the surface.

inhaling something too tiny to apologize.

But the mud reminds me of things once forgotten, hidden deep in my subconscious.

every ripple is mistaken for madness.

yet every current promises a shore.

Careful, do not break you cannot replace.

My heart is a very unique and silly shape.

Hold my hands, feel their weight,

lift my chin, wipe tears from my face,

I promise, I am worth the wait.

I’ve chewed up and spit out every word in my lexicon that whispers i love you. You speak in unknown languages, the top of your lungs, i’m desperate for translation. But desperation only leads to catastrophic miscommunications, an unintentional destruction of our smiling faces.

i am a vessel of half-spoken prayers, a broken cup still warm with faith.

the mirror mouths my name in a language made of water, and i almost understand.

somewhere, a candle refuses to end. its smoke climbs like handwriting, drawing elegies across my ribs.

i taste the burn of my own making, the soft ruin that becomes renewal.

i keep the ashes under my tongue, roll them like seeds, each one whispering the body's secret hunger.

my breath is a hymn to undoing, a song for what survives the fall.
