“ hair dries, ” spencer points out, like it's the most obvious thing in the world. once the glasses are set down before them, he pushes one towards savannah with a grin. “ i don't know, i just told the bartender to give me something fun, so we'll see, ” he remarks, bringing his drink to his lips — a bit too sweet for his liking, but it'll do. “ she's with your mom, right? so in completely capable hands, ” or at least he thinks. after all, she's raised, what, four children? “ take this time for yourself. ”
"it also become flat, dull, and lifeless," savannah found herself correcting spencer, in a playful manner. reaching for the cup, she takes a sip from it. making a face, she can't help but let out a laugh. "this sure tastes like fun in a cup, you get my stamp of approval," nodded her head before taking another sip. "um, yes .... she's with her. i'll leave out the grueling details on how i had to get her to agree," she sighed. "anyways, what trouble are we trying to get in now?"
" i don't think it looks like you're trying too hard at all, sav. you're enjoying yourself and having fun at a beach party ! " alyssa would say with a smile. " but like i said.. it just matters that you're comfortable in it, you know ? " the blonde happily smiled at sav's compliment. " i try my best. but as always, i'm more than happy to help you with all things related to fashion if you need it, of course. what can i say ? it's my specialty. " the less that alyssa had to be in the presence of sullivan or even know that he was hanging around at the beach party ? the better.
"it's just," savannah let out a bit of an awkward laugh. "honestly? i'm still getting used to having boobs," she confessed, pointing to her chest. "it's like a foreign concept to me," she explained with a sigh. after having rhia, many things seemed to change about her life, including her apperance ( for the better though ). "so, i'm just in a constant struggle of wanting to flaunt what i got but also just .... not. but, i appreciate your help always. do you have any other plans for the rest of your night though?"
"strawberry daiquiri." maybe he should branch out, try some of the other options, but his first drink of choice tonight had been delicious, and he saw no reason to change things up now. "uh... yeah, i think that'd only work for you, dude. i don't have a kid. i show up with a sippy cup, they're instantly going to clock me as either a weirdo, or someone trying to sneak in booze. but... thanks."
as they approached the open bar, savannah spoke to one of the bartenders. "two strawberry daiquris please," she asked, offering a smile to them as she took both of the, hesistant to give one to her brother in the first place. "here you go, now what are the magic words sullivan?" she used her best mom voice to ask in a dramatic fashion. "i meant more like if the two of us went somewhere and you wanted to drink. but, i'm assuming you can plenty of fun without me, right?"
"i know you two have your... differences... but i'm sure she can handle getting her to bed. it's just an evening, right? rhia will be okay, i'm certain of it." kai promises, interrupting their conversation just for a second to order a glass of wine for each of them. "i wouldn't know - not really the kind of thing i've ever sought out, but... i wouldn't be surprised, if there was. there must be a big market for it. honestly, i'm sure there's probably enough single parents just in this town to make one. ...or at least some kind of... speed dating night."
"yeah, that's the plan. it's ... been awhile since she's been over there. seemed like a win-win situation i suppose," savannah replied. when it came to her mother, she preferred to keep her answers short, brief. honestly? it was just easier that way. kai could probably tell by her responses and body language that she didn't want to dwell too much on that subject. reaching for the glass of wine, she takes a small sip. "you know? speed dating might actually be kind of fun. i think i'd be open to it. what about you? if we're talking about putting ourselves out there, that should include you too."
laughter escapes his lips at her remark. “ you bet i did, ” he replies with a grin. before she can get another word in, he's already leading her to the open bar, ordering drinks for both of them. “ i promise not to let you leave my sight, then, ” he swears, “ but you should let loose a little bit. this is like, the one time you can. ”
"now you're making me want to dip my toes in the water, but i don't want to get my hair wet," she admitted with a shrug of her shoulders. she had spent extra time on it today, blowing it out to bleach blonde perfection. " ... what are you going to order for us?" she asked, glancing over to the bar and the wide array of liquor choices. she trusted spencer that he wouldn't order something she wouldn't like. "i'm trying, really. i haven't even texted or called for updates on rhia either, even though i want to."

"Hey, sweetness!" Sydney hummed in playful greeting as she plopped down in the free seat next to Savannah. Kicking one leg over the other, she pulled her crossbody bag into her lap and rummaged through it for a moment before pulling out a green bag of sour Skittles. She held it out for Savannah, giving it a little shake so that the candies inside rattled against each other. Almost like she was trying to entice. "A little pick me up for ya."
"Okay, I'll be honest, I found these in my pantry, and I don't like Sour Skittles aaaand..." She paused and squinted as she read the packaging. "They're only three days outta date. I think that's supposed to enhance the malic acid or whatever. Like wine. Don't fact-check me, I'm only 60% certain."
"oh, hi!" savannah offered the other girl a smile as she took a seat next to her. truth be told, she had zoned out for a moment ( thanks to the too many drinks she had ordered earlier ). "you're good ... i honestly prefer sour stuff over sweet? so i appreciate it," she let out a giggle, reaching for the bag of candy that was offered to him. opening the contents, she popped a few in her mouth. "well, have you been having fun so far?" the blonde asked.
it wasn't what he'd asked for, exactly, but even he knew that was kind of a stretch. "...fine. but you gotta order the drink for me. holly's got a vendetta against me because i didn't propose after we hooked up, or something." there was possibly more to it than that, but he hadn't paid attention enough to know. "...do you ever try and use one of those as a flask? i bet it'd work."
"just let me know how you want your drink ordered and i'll get you one, okay?" savannah let out a semi frustrated sigh, taking her brother's hand and walking them over where the bar area was. it almost felt like she was babysitting him, but at least in a way, they were bonding. "no, i haven't .... maybe the next time you want to try to sneak in free booze, i'll let you borrow one of rhia's old one's."
"well, that sounds... nice." kai knew a little too much about savannah's relationship with her mother to sound entirely convincing, but he hoped this was a good sign. maybe it was the start of a new turn, and they would manage to work things out to some degree. one could only hope. at any rate, it definitely made him feel a bit more grateful about the relationship he had with his own mum. "would you ever consider dating another single parent, do you think? maybe they'd be more understanding of the situation."
"i'm hoping ... i've been wanting to call her up for updates on their night but i promised myself i wouldn't stress out and actually try to have fun," she sighed, knowing tht she needed to leave her phone in her bag where it belonged. she was only going to be gone for a few hours, she deserved to have a moment of being child free like anyone else. "i mean, do you think they have dating apps for parents? i haven't considered it .... i left out having a daughter on my tinder in hopes of getting more swipes."
James smiled at the keychain when Sav showed him, and it gave him a bit more determination to win her something. "well you gotta show me which one you want the most so I know who what I'm fighting for." He pointed at the array of plushies on display.
"That's okay. As much as I like rides like that, I don't like the ones that make you go upside down. Like, certain roller coasters." He shrugged. "But yeah, we'll take it slow. And if you're anxious, you can always hold on to me."
"ummm," savannah paused as she looked up at the varying options. "maybe the little kitten one? or god, that turtle one is fucking cute ... so is the dolphin," she tapped her fingers on her chin. "i'll just have to make a final decision when you win me one," she muses.
feeling a faint blush spread across her cheeks, she nodded her head in agreement. "yeah, the upside down one's? a total no from me .... i was forced to go on those when i was younger with my brothers and they always kinda scared me," she admitted. "are you hoping to more than snuggle up with me on a ride?" sav questioned, her not so smooth attempting at flirting back.

“ sav! ” spencer exclaims when he catches sight of her, throwing an arm over her shoulders and inadvertently getting her clothes damp because he'd just gotten out of the water moments prior. “ we should get you a drink — or two, because it's only fair that you get to enjoy yourself in those rare, precious moments that you're child-free. ”
"did you have fun playing mermaids?" savannah raised a curios brow, feeling his wet arms wrapping around her shoulders. if it was anybody else, she would have been annoyed over getting wet but spencer? he'd always be an exception. "two drinks? shit, i've already had a few ... i'll agree to more than one if you stick by me for a bit. make sure i don't get too crazy, alright?"
" usually, i can just try to create my own. as much as i love to click 'add to cart' it surely does get pricey sometimes. i had a lot of work to do so i haven't had much time to put my vision to my sewing machine. " alyssa loved fashion and as creating it was as fun as it was, she had a lot to occupy her time with lately. " you can ask me anything, sav. you know that ! " she'd say with a nod of her head. " it's really cute, i have to say. but you also don't have to keep it on. we're at a beach party after all. and you're hot ! the one thing i've learned especially when it comes to fashion is that you have to be comfortable first. "
"do you think it would look like i'm trying too hard though? i guess i don't normally show this much skin," she admitted with a bit of a frown. what she wasn't going to tell alyssa is that she was planning to meet up with her step brother later and that's why she was overthinking her outfit. "sorry, you just make all of this look so much easier and like, effortless?"
she was right, but sully hated being told what to do, so, compromising, he lets out one more, big dramatic sigh, and lowers his voice again. "depends on what halfway is. is it me getting five more drinks, and that cotton candy you promised me? because, if so, then yes, i will meet you halfway."
"how about we both go to get a drink and also some cotton candy? you're pick of the flavor .... it can probably soak up at least some of the booze you've been guzzling down quicker than rhia's sippy cup," savannah glared at her brother. "does that sound good?"
"exactly. don't want to get too wild too fast, and end up like-" as if on cue, a particularly loud man dances by, one kai realizes, a little too late, that he recognizes from savannah's family photos. "...well. just-... you know. for the best, to take it slow. you have the time, right? rhia's gone for the night?" savannah's answer to the question makes kai chuckle, but he's polite enough to try and hide it behind his hand, as best he can. "well, you go out there, and you find out if it's one. don't let him waste your time. you're too fun and pretty to get strung along."
savannah stopped what she was about to say when she saw her idiot younger brother in his own little drunken world, not seeming to notice the two of them. "anyways," she huffed out. "uh, yes. i somehow got my mom to agree to take her for the night for some grand daughter bounding time," sav admitted. "i'm totally going to try and at least have fun tonight. i'm a bit rusty when it comes to this 'dating, hanging out with people' thing. i can't say it's easy trying to meet up with people once they find out you have a kid too, that's usually a deal breaker."
it is overwhelming. isabel hasn't been to a party since god knows when, and certainly hasn't been to one where there was more to do than just drinking and dancing. “ yeah, that sounds nice, ” they say with a smile. “ what would you recommend? ”
"have you tried any of the food trucks? they have a ton, anything from salty to sweet. super yummy drinks too! so, i'd suggest that first," savannah spoke. "then maybe some of the games? i know most people think they are rigged but they have super cute little plushies for prizes."
of all the things that could happen to them at this party, martina never imagined it would be savannah spilling a drink on their shirt to be one of them. she even considered the option of fighting someone with their bare fists if it came to it, but never this. to say they were pissed to no end was an understatement, and it could be seen on their face, reddened by more than the sun, clear as day. “ what the fuck, savannah ?! ” they exclaimed when they felt the cold liquid hit their skin through the fabric that thank god was black. “ are you, aside from being annoying, also fucking stupid ? why don’t you watch where you’re fucking walking ? ”
"no, i'm not," savannah shook her head, feeling her face quickly turn red from embarrasment and being put on the spot like this. "it was a mistake, seriously! i'm sorry .... i can buy you something to make up for it? a snow cone? cotton candy? a funnel cake? anything ....," she mumbled out.
" it's what we deserve. a stress free day ! i say that as someone who's still a little stressed.. but.. i'm doing my best to relax. and you know what ? i think i'm becoming a little bit more successful at it. " she shrugged her shoulders. doing her best to forget about all of her worries from work and focus on the fun she was supposed to be having today, for once. the only day of the week she had actually allowed herself some time to just have fun. " oh, thank you ! it's new. whenever i see something that i like ? i've got to have it or immediately add it right into my cart. as someone who works in fashion ? i cannot just see something and not get it, you know ? "
"i'm usually more of a thrift store queen, but i ended up buying this outfit brand new because honestly? the thrift store hasn't been hitting lately," she admitted. "can i ask you a question, even if it sounds like a little weird?" savannah chirped up. "should i keep my cover up on after we're done here? or should i wear my bikini top? i'm afraid i might be showing a little too much .... boobage."
