if i had a million dollars, i wouldn't even be in this stink ass country, i'd be at the bottom of the ocean with my money in a suitcase so i can start my treasure hunt legacy
September 24 2019 - Thousands of protesters clashed with police at the parliament building in Jakarta. They are protesting corruption, repression of activists and the oppression of west papuans, and proposed changes to the criminal code, which include penalties for sex outside marriage, insulting the president’s dignity, a four-year jail term for abortions in the absence of a medical emergency or rape, and a prison term for black magic. [video]/[video]
The laws they’re trying to pass infringes on many Indonesian citizens’ rights.
Article 417 punishes extramarital sex (even between two consenting adults) by up to one year in jail or 10 million rupiah in fines.
Article 419 states that couples who live together without being legally married could be sentenced to six months in prison or 10 million in fines.
Article 414 Outlaws the ‘blatant’ displaying, offering, broadcasting, or showing how to obtain contraception to minors. Up to 1 million in fines. The latest draft prohibits anyone except “authorized personnel” from disseminating information about contraception to children, which activists say will curtail attempts to provide sexual education.
Articles 415, 470, and 471 state that only doctors have the right to decide to perform an abortion. This conflicts with the 2009 Health Law, which says a woman can seek an abortion in “a medical emergency,” which could be interpreted to include health reasons or rape. A woman who aborted her pregnancy could be sentenced up to four years in prison. Anyone who helps a pregnant woman have an abortion could be sentenced up to five years in prison.
Article 218, 219 criminalizes ‘attacks on the image’ of the president or vice president being spoken or shared on any media, punishable up to 4.5 years in prison or up to 200 million rupiah in fines.
Article 240, 241 Bans the broadcasting, displaying, posting, or online distribution of writing or pictures that contain ‘insults agains the legitimate government’, punishable up to 4 years imprisonment or 500 million rupiah in fines.
Article 432 Bans homeless and disabled people from being on the streets or other public places for ‘disturbance of public order’, with up to 1 million rupiah in fines.
Article 432 also bans women from being out on the streets at night time for any reason, including work commute and night classes, with up to 1 million rupiah in fines.
This is getting out of hand.
Please help us spread awareness on this! A lot of my friends are out there on the streets, fighting the bills, getting tear gassed. I can’t be there with them, but I can at least do this.

Bisexual Visibility Day [September 23rd]
Callie Torres is the longest running bisexual character in the history of television and she is played by real life bisexual Latina superhero Sara Ramirez. Over the course of her eleven seasons on Grey’s Anatomy, she was married to a man and a woman, both of whom she loved deeply. She never shied away from calling herself bisexual, whether as confrontation or as comfort. There’s really no way to overstate her impact. But she’s more than just what she accomplished. Callie was a joy to watch on TV. Smart and savvy and silly and relentlessly loyal to the people she loved.
i'm so so terrified, i know the philippines could never progress with ancient shitheads like fucking soto in charge of the senate, i just want things to be better, but there is nothing i can do without being outed because people's heads are so brittle and because they're scared themselves of being labeled the other so they hurt us at every chance because they're so scared
they rejected the law for same-sex marriage and i have family members cheering on this and denying the SOGIE bill, everything is so bad and cruel and i feel i'm this close to snapping because people still hate and abuse and hurt people over stupid shit and i'm so scared because i know it can happen to me too, i'm so scared everyday that i'll be outed and that i'll be abused and bullied like my friends are, i can't speak out, i can't move, i can't let anyone know and it fucking hurts like shit
The estimates of the monarch butterfly overwintering population were announced today (Wed. Jan. 30th 2019) by WWF Mexico. The butterflies are so dense at their dozen or so mountain-top clustering …
Every year, a large portion of the monarch butterfly population migrates to Mexico to overwinter. It’s an incredible natural phenomenon, with all the monarchs from the eastern United States (an area of two million square miles) condensing into a space significantly smaller than New York City.
Having all those butterflies in one place makes this the best opportunity scientists have to get an estimate of eastern monarch population numbers.
This year, monarch numbers were more than twice what they were last year and the highest they’ve been in the last twelve years!
Butterfly populations as a whole have been in gradual decline over the past three decades, but this trend seems to have reversed for monarchs over the past four years. Monarchs are still in need of our help and protection, but this last census is great news!
Conservation efforts DO make a difference. Let’s keep it going strong.
