I do wonder, will we get to see Yashy and the others later in the comic? Also, I know it’s mentioned both in Witch Hunt and a few mini comics, but I would like to know specifically how they are doing. Like how do they all feel about Mike still (knowing Yashy wants him dead (lol) but Blur probably would feel more sad leaving him).
Veronica: I’ve considered bringing back the pets in the far future before.. like there’s a scene I had for the original ending where they’d pop up out of nowhere to give Lucy a hard time (/pos or /neg, I won’t say haha ;)), but that ending doesn’t work anymore.. so they’re in limbo.
I don’t expect I’ll bring them back, frankly. Even if I did a comic that took place at Lucy’s aunt's place during Lucy’s absence I wouldn’t focus on them much at all. Enough to not make their absence weird, of course, since they are characters that do matter and have made an impact on the story, so they GOTTA be there if I made a story about Lucy being with her aunt, but I’d want to focus more on Lucy/her aunt instead. I’ve kinda grown past these characters. They’re a fun element that I like and miss, from a simpler time, but tonally they just don’t have a place anymore. Which is sad!
They’re also just.. admittedly very ageless characters. They were kinda created to be ageless - permanent children. To be little pets for Lucy to take care of. How are they gonna be when she’s middle-aged? That’s part of the reason they aren’t around during AUs like Fork in the Road.. again, tonally they just don’t make sense! Though rationally if Lucy got her own place and was an adult, she’d surely get Yashy back! She’d have to! It’s like abandoning a cat! Lucy wouldn’t do that.. so I dunno.. instead I just don’t think about it--
Anyway they’re all doing well! Yashy loves Lucy’s aunt, Lily has a fun time chatting with Lucy’s aunt and spending time with her - having more adult conversations. Probably watching TV and doing older person activities and stuff. They get to see Chirpy from time to time, when Chirpy wants to visit. They woulda gotten to know Chirpy’s little brother and Chirpy’s mother by now. They’d have little antics with the brother. The brother’s name is Maurice - he’s a character I haven’t thought about in DECADES so I can’t really remember him too well.. I think he used to be an insecure boy? But also a little prideful, like I recall he used to want to look cool and responsible. Which was tough with a boisterous energetic careless twin sister like Chirpy. Chirpy would be getting into trouble, and Maurice would stop her - and Yashy would get fed up with him and call him a wet blanket. She already sees Blur as a bit of a wet blanket, we don’t need another loser!
I think Blur would become way less of a wet blanket, though, and would indulge in a bit of mayhem with Yashy, so Maurice would fit the straight man role much better. Blur misses Mike, but he essentially has feelings for Yashy. I always kinda pictured him having feelings for her and Yashy reciprocating.. in that playful “yeah of course you’re mine! Duh!” kinda way. It’s the way it was in the pre-BCB comics. They were essentially “together” while not saying they’re together.. but like.. yeah, they’re together.
And I think because Yashy is so hurt by Mike, and because Blur cares about Yashy so much, he would have complicated feelings about Mike. He’ll hope Mike gets better one day, maybe fights his demons.. but Blur is happy where he is now. Very at peace, with the people he loves. He has zero interest in returning to Roseville, and so does Yashy, really. Yashy doesn’t want to see her mother be pathetic again.
man I really could go on and on about the pets. I do love these characters a lot!!!! I know they don’t tonally fit anymore and create more questions than answers when it comes to the ~Bittersweet Candy Bowl Universe~, but I was happy to have them when I did. If I ever rebooted the series, they wouldn’t be included.. but I do still have affection for them.
