Helpppo why am I getting boomer conservative memes on my for you page đđ I keep saying not interested but tumblr wonât get rid of them
Grrrrr
I rewatched the last few episodes of AOT recently and I always forget that eren goesâŠ. Fully insane. Like to a terrifying extent.
Iâm not the biggest eren fan in the world, but to remember that he goes from a baby face 15 year old who canât seem to do anything right to the scene where he cuts off his leg. Terrifying. And so fascinating.
2 takeaways- 1) Isayama actually did a great job with him as a main character and I was wrong 2)Donât watch AOT high
Me this week
Back to venting on my tumblr!! đ
I want my boyfriend to come home đ
Lowkey terrified his job is going to cause our breakup đ
I spend all hours of the day wanting to cry đ
Not to be cliche but if my boyfriend and I werenât doing long distance rn my anxiety would be WAYYY better. Not because he can fix climate change or fascism or war, but at least if it all goes up tomorrow I could die in his arms
Itâs sad how much of what is taught in school is useless to over 99% of the population.
There are literally math concepts taught in high school and middle school that are only used in extremely specialized fields or that are even so outdated they arenât used anymore!
I took calculus my senior year of high school, and I really liked the way our teacher framed this on the first day of class.
He asked somebody to raise their hand and ask him when we would use calculus in our everyday life. So one student rose their hand and asked, âWhen are we going to use this in our everyday life?â
âNEVER!!â the teacher exclaimed. âYou will never use calculus in your normal, everyday life. In fact, very few of you will use it in your professional careers either.â Then he paused. âSo would you like to know why should care?â
Several us nodded.
He picked out one of the varsity football players in the class. âYou practice football a lot during the week, right Tim?â asked the teacher.
âYeah,â replied Tim. âAlmost every day.â
âDo you and your teammates ever lift weights during practice?â
âYeah. Tuesdays and Thursdays we spend a lot of practice in the weight room.â
âBut why?â asked the teacher. âIs there ever going to be a play your coach tells you use during a game that requires you to bench press the other team?â
âNo, of course not.â
âThen why lift weights?â
âBecause it makes us stronger,â said Tim.
âBingo!!â said the teacher. âItâs the same thing with calculus. Youâre not here because youâre going to use calculus in your everyday life. Youâre here because calculus is weightlifting for your brain.â
And Iâve never forgotten that.
THIS.
When itâs taught right, learning math teaches you logic and how to organize your brain, how to take a problem one step at a time and make sure every step can bear weight before you move to the next one. Â Most adults donât need to know integrals, but goddamn if I donât wish everyone making arguments on the internet understood geometric proofs.
Scientific concepts broaden our understanding of how the world is put together, which does not mean that most adults ever really understand how light is refracted through a lens or why spinning copper wire creates electricityâand they donât need to. Â But science classes in general are meant to teach the scientific method: how to make observations and use them to draw conclusions, how to test those conclusions, how to be wrong and grow stronger from it.
History isnât about dates and names of battles, itâs about people, patterns, things weâve tried before and ought to learn from. Â Itâs about how everything is linked, how changing one circumstance can lead to changes in fifty others, cascading infinitely. Â Literature is about critical thinking, pattern recognition, learning to listen to what somebody is saying and decide what it means to you, how you feel about it, and what you want to do with it.
Some facts matter: every adult should know how to read a graph, how global warming works, some of the basic themes and symbols that crop up in every piece of fiction. Â But ultimately, content is less important later in life than context.
The good thing is, students who learn the content are likely to pick up at least some of the context, some of the patterns of thinking, even if they donât realize it.  (The unfortunate thing is how the current educational system prioritizes content so much that a lot of students, and a lot of adults, donât see the point in learning either, and teachers are overworked and held to standardize test grading scales such that itâs hard for them to emphasize patterns of thinking over rote memorization, etc etc etc, but that is a whole different discussion.)
I would also add that giving as broad an education to as many as possible gives everyone the opportunity to follow a career that might use calculus. Or colour theory. Or electromagnetism. Or [insert specialism here]. If we gatekeep specialisms, those careers are only available for the ones who were privileged enough to have the background training. Thatâs why Classics as a degree subject is full of private school kids: itâs not offered in state education.
And when you gatekeep classics you get people who turn up their nose when people enjoy things âthe wrong wayâ like some (thankfully few) of the comments on the video of the girls playing Vivaldi on their marimbas with such joy.
If you hate public education I hate you. All education is valuable, even if it isnât obvious
Not a middle aged middle class man trying to defend AI because I called it stupid :| It is stupid and you are wrong âoh itâs a tool that helps us I know company where it sorts all their applications!â Ok and I know an earth and human population itâs actively destroying

The last episode of severance made me laugh so hard because 1) hello marching band win??? but also 2) I can now create an accurate and overly qualified severance-sona
Hereâs my really controversial take-
Have empathy as Trump voters begin realizing theyâve been fooled. Weâre all starting to see it- relatives and mutual posting less about trump, centrists coming out with how upset they are, etc⊠Hereâs my plea-
Be kind to them
People are raised in different environments. Surrounded by different influences. Indoctrinated by a number of sources. Yes, weâve been trying to tell trump voters what theyâre voting for. But that shouldnât give anyone the right to get on their high horse and isolate the people starting to realize whatâs happening. We all need each other. This is a top vs. bottom issue, not a left vs. right issue. Let people become better. Let people join the fight against those in power right now. DONâT pretend you always knew better. DONâT pretend youâre inherently better in some way. We all learn every day. We all need each other.
Have empathy, be humble, and help each other. Itâs the greatest form of resistance, and the most important thing we can do to fight back
(Quick edition- Iâm not saying to automatically forgive bigotry. But at some point we are going to have to band together to resist, regardless of our differences and pasts. You can refuse to forgive former hatred, but still hold space for those looking to be better. Nuance exists, donât be fooled into purity politics.)

This is not a dig at anyone but the amount of people who thought the first half of the season was better is WILD. Like did we watch the same first act?? The one with 500 new characters and 20 plot points and the bouncing around? I really felt that the season wasnât anywhere close to season one until the second act when it slowed down and stabilized. Sure, the ending of the show didnât really follow the act one plot points. But tbh, with the crunched time the writers had, I truly feel they made the right choices on what they decided to follow based on a logical priority list
What do I mean by that?
For example, many people are frustrated by how easily Caitlynâs dictator arc was resolved and how she went back to being a good guy. And yes, I agree that it was a little too fast. HOWEVER, they only had so much time to resolve it, and they would have lost too much time focusing on that rather than the arcane plot line, which was the underlying thread for THE ENTIRE SHOW. Many of the plot points literally could not have been resolved as well without completely demolishing the pacing like they did for act 1.
When they slowed down and went ahead and resolved some things, we got some of the best moments in the show imo- s2 ep7 (in its entirety), jinx and VIâs reunion, victors exploration of Vanderâs psyche, and oh my GOD the finale Jayce and Viktor scene (idc if youâre not in the show for the shipping, the scene was gorgeous, powerful, and heart wrenching). While some of the political points were thrown away a little too quickly, and I get that many people wanted the show to focus on that, in return we got the end to many other plot points that weâve also been following from the beginning.
Idk I guess my point with all this is that everyone can and should take a step back from blind criticism or admiration of this last season because from a zoomed-out lens, itâs obvious that this season fell victim to a shortened run-time and that sacrifices had to be made. However, I think itâs also obvious that the writers made very intentional decisions about what to sacrifice in order to save the rest of the show. And itâs not bad writing for them to have sacrificed the parts YOU wanted to focus on.
Tl;dr- The first act of the season throws a bunch of shit at the wall that it, quite frankly, never had time to completely clean up. Acts 2 and 3 did a much better job of telling a well-paced and emotional story, even if it wasnât telling the story you wanted to see
i wanna study this scene under a microscope bro
Iâd give everything to experience this scene for the first time again, holy SHIT
Guys the FNAF movie was so good
People who hated this movie have never had fun once in their life!!
