"Why would Cassie pick Dean? Her and Michael were better!!!"
Well, Dean actually got to know her, unlike Michael. He slowly became emotionally available once him and Cassie spent more time together. Dean took the time to understand Cassie. He never used Michael's past to embarrass him. He never tried forcing Cassie to be with him. He gave Cassie her space and respected her.
Michael, on the other hand, was pushing himself onto Cassie. He constantly kept pushing Cassie to choose him. He used Dean's past to embarrass him in front of Cassie (bad seed comment). He may have had a crush on her, but it doesn't mean that Cassie has to choose him. Nobody is obligated to be with someone just because that person likes them. If they're not interested, then you simply need to accept it and back off.
Also, it's pretty obvious that he only cared about being with Cassie just so he could make Dean jealous. When she came back from the hospital after being almost murdered, all he cared about was her and Dean. He didn't even ask if she was okay - all he cared about was if it had been him there and not Dean.
So yeah, you may prefer having Michael for yourself, but you're not Cassie. Actually try putting yourself in Cassie's perspective and then tell me if you'll still prefer Michael over Dean.

neither of them can watch scary movies so they make a point of watching every movie genre BUT horror (cassie always falls asleep when they end up watching a documentary)
dean is a dry ass texter and cassie lives to send him 840000 different emojis per text
first of the naturals to get engaged and married
they make playlists for each other
first person to find out they were getting freaky was sloane (this is BASICALLY canon with the way everyone hcs it 😭)
cassie was MORTIFIED but sloane kept assuring her it was fine and then rattling off some facts about teen pregnancy
dean always has extra condoms in case cassie forgets (she never does but it's the thought that counts)
cassie got into sad gracie abrams music from dean. she loves unsteady. her favorite is the blue (not sad but whatever) because it reminds her of herself and dean
they don't have to talk to each other to know how the other's feeling. it's soulmate telepathy ifykwim
more often than not cassie falls asleep on dean. and he just. cuddles her.
the first time dean fell asleep on cassie, she panicked slightly but ended up leaning into him completely unsure of what to do. then she fell asleep as well.
cassie learned how to embroider one day when she was bored and dean found out about it via all the little stitched pillows she started leaving in his room
she denied it when asked about it ("what nooo there must be a little embroidery fairy!! like the tooth fairy yk") and dean went along with it but he definitely knew it was her
they make the best popcorn. hands down.
cassie puts soooo much other stuff in her popcorn
they marathon disney movies together (the cheesier the better)
they're the only people to know the other's greatest fears
they have many a late night conversation (*late night talking by harry styles starts playing*)
they have a two person sort of-book club where they just read the same book and then cassie rants about it (regardless of whether or not she liked it) while dean listens
every time cassie discovers a new show she wants to watch she makes dean watch it with her
when they're really bored they work on cold cases together
girl dad dean
GIRL DAD DEAN
cassie is always posting pictures of dean on her instagram and the caption is almost always "when they're blond >>>"
dean is always complaining to cassie about michael
cassie REALLY wants them to get along so she keeps pushing it
cassie is not chronically online but she tries out tiktok trends on dean for example she did the 'i'm gonna start gaslighting you' 'you're going to start gaslighting me?' 'that's not what i said' prank
she keeps trying to get dean to learn a dance with her and so far has not succeeded
best believe if they need to pass the time somehow cassie starts up i spy or the alphabet game or something in that vein
they would be road trippers
both of them are extremely versed in helping with the others nightmares
if neither of them can sleep (for whatever reason) they go out to the pool
and yes they have made out in the pool before
cassie hates driving. she is happy to be the passenger princess and let dean drive
she did surprise dean by knowing how to pump gas though
Cassie Hobbes is so underrated in her own book series.
Everyone is always talking about the love triangle but never talk about Cassie's individual character.
They'll talk about everyone's else's traumatic backstories but never mention how Cassie had found her own mother's murder scene and spent years not knowing what happened to her. They'll just say that Cassie wasn't as traumatised as the other Naturals, so her pain isn't as valid.
They'll talk about how Cassie was being rude to Michael for not answering his question at the end of Killer Instinct, but fail to mention how Michael only cared about her getting with Dean and not that she'd almost been killed. They'll just say that she was being a "bitch" for not picking him when he could've been so good to her.
It's rarely brought up how, when her "mother's body" was found, Lia (not slander) told her to not make a big deal about it because it "wasn't her turn" to be having issues. The person Cassie had been searching for was "found dead" and she was practically told to just "suck it up".
And even after finding out her mother was still alive, and being held captive by a murderous cult, Cassie ended up having to kill her just so she'd be free. The person Cassie had been searching for, thought had died, found out was alive, still ended up losing her in the end.
And yet, people will tell you that Cassie Hobbes is nothing more than a "whiny bitch" who couldn't pick between two boys. But when she did, it wasn't the boy they preferred, so they still hated on her for picking the "wrong" option.
Cassie Hobbes is not a "whiny bitch" who was mean for not choosing Michael. She's a strong-willed person who'd been traumatised from her mother's disappearance and joined the Naturals program in hopes of finding her/helping others so they didn't experience the pain she went through with her mother's disappearance.
Her pain was just as valid as the others in the program. Don't downplay it just because you personally don't think she suffered like everyone else. EVERYONE in the program had experienced something traumatic, and downplaying any of them is just terrible.
All in all, I love Cassie with my whole heart. She's a brave person who, despite everything she went through in the series, still managed to be a compassionate, loving person. All she wanted was the best for those around her. She's not the evil person that people make her out to be.
I will never understand people who act like Lia is "too toxic" for Michael. Absolutely not. If anything, Michael is arguably worse to her because the sheer number of shots he takes at her is wild.
Blatantly and aggressively pursuing Cassie right in front of Lia’s face from the second she arrived.
The whole truth or dare scene where he asked for Lia's real name. He knew it was an incredibly sensitive, traumatic topic for her, and he weaponized it anyway.
When he jumped in to pseudo defend Cassie after Lia was upset about the Dean situation in Killer Instinct. He should have stayed silent because she was already upset about Dean shutting her out.
I get that Cassie was in immediate danger at the party, so abandoning Lia there is a minor offense (even tho it was very angsty for me). But he sidelined Lia the entire day, didn't look at her in the car, and was annoyed with her afterwards (sure, she was rage-baiting him, but still).
To this day, I will never understand why he wouldn't clarify that Celine was just a friend. The intentional vagueness was cruel.
The in five seconds scene. Lia was pushing his buttons a bit during a complicated time but she was feeling rightfully insecure.
The "longer and better than i've loved you" line. This STUNG even though he didn't mean it the way it came off.
There's definitely more offenses but these are the main ones. In contrast, what exactly did Lia do to him that is so bad in canon? Don't get me wrong, they're both toxic, but Michael is worse to her (from what we've seen so far) and I just don't see why people would think otherwise. Please enlighten me.
i feel so defensive and protective of people with ARFID like if i had a disorder that made my brain register 90% of food as poison for no reason and i had a bazillion people on the internet constantly calling me a manchild who needs to just grow up and stop being a picky eater i would start killing people
one thing i wish we’d seen more of in The Naturals series is Cassie swimming after her nightmares or whenever she needs a moment. Like, Sloane has the basement, Michael the cars, Lia the roof, and Dean the garage. Why didn’t Cassie get a stress space?
also id imagine when celine arrives she takes up the attic (not a canon space but whtvr) and uses it for art. also lia is her roomate 100%
