909 experiment
intro was too long. music choice was terrible and didn’t fit the topic. seems as though the creator lacks self awareness and too caught up in their own interests, instead of the audience. creator needs to realize that just because they like long shots of landscape while driving, and knock off marylin manson music, doesn’t mean the masses will.
when we’re first introduced to the two leads, i wasn’t impressed. the dialogue was boring, and felt unnatural. there were times it didn’t feel like a movie but a clip of a scene study class. eventually the movie does pick up the paste. i was worried about the movie having too much filler, but thankfully it gets to the point.
Horrible Dr Hichcock (1962) The year is 1885, and necrophiliac Dr. Hitchcock likes to drug his wife for sexual funeral games. One day he accidentally administers an overdose and kills her.
Panic In The Year Zero (1962) A family of four leaves Los Angeles for a camping trip just before a nuclear bomb destroys the city.
I usually don’t like ‘’end of the world’’ movies, but this kept my attention. This movie pushed the limits at different points, which took me by surprise. It seemed realistic in human behavior and how people will let greed get to them. Or how someone can get carried away when it comes to violence and dominance. How easy it is to lose your humanity when laws don’t exist.
5/10
Hand of Death (1962) A cloud transforms a scientist (John Agar) into a hideous, scaly monster that can destroy anything it touches.
This movie is very short and gets to the point. It’s fat from great, but keeps your attention. The acting is surprising great for a movie that never saw the light of day until decades later. At least from what I heard.
I wonder if the movie had racial undertones. The monster has a wide nose and big lips like those racist caricatures from Disney. Whenever the monster would touch someone their skin would turn black. Maybe I’m overthinking it but it seems odd. The ending was depressing.
Rating 5/10
Tower of London (1962) The twisted Richard III is haunted by the ghosts of those he has murdered in his attempt to become the King of England.
Am I a bad person for rooting for the bad guy? I’m not sure why but I loved how evil Richard was. Maybe it’s because I thought the princess and the kids were annoying? He killed so many people I thought he was going to off the whole town. I thought it was humorous. The movie was a little too long but still entertaining.
Rating 6/10
The Premature Burial (1962) An artist grows distant from his new wife as an irrational horror of premature burial
I don’t know how to review this movie without giving out spoilers. But I will say the ending is BS, and the mother is a fool for not speaking up sooner. She herself even stated how she was ‘’too late’’ and gave an explanation, but I couldn’t stop shaking my head and thinking how stupid she was. The whole thing could have been avoided if she had just opened her mouth.

The Phantom of the Opera (1962) Remake
I thought the storyline was a lot better in this remake, but the look of the phantom was a lot scarier in the 1925 version. The phantom in this version looked like Jason from Friday the 13th. I wonder if the creators of Friday got their inspiration from this? The ending was very sad and unsatisfying. I expected more of a revolution/justice, but got something that made my heart sink. Then the movie abruptly ends, and I’m left feeling empty. This is probably the second movie I’ve seen from this time period that left on a bad note. Usually these movies have a happy ending.
Rating 6/10
Ring of Terror (1962) A group of medical students undertake some silly and frightening endeavors in order to pledge a fraternity.
This movie was only an hour, but it took so long to get to the point. The plot is very simple and it’s stretched so thinly. I assumed because of the intro with the man telling a ghost story, that this would be similar to Tales of Terror, but there’s only one story involved and its a weak plot, that should have been no more than 20 minutes. It’s supposed to be a horror but we have to sit through 45 minutes of bathing suit contests, college pranks, and weird dance parties, before we even get to the point of why we’re watching.
Rating 3/10
Tales Of Terror (1962) Three horrors staring Vincent Price
The first story was really good, and it was unique. A father hates his daughter because he blames her for his wife’s death.
Second story involving a drunk who suspects his wife is cheating, with a man he had a wine tasting contest with. This story was just okay. The drunk man was very repetitive and didn’t show range. He wasn’t interesting.
Third story was even more boring until the very end. A man uses mind control to try and steal another man’s wife..blah blah
4/10
Slaughter of the Vampires (1962)
Yall know me I’m really not a fan of vampire movies.
2/10
Night of the Eagle (1962) A skeptical college professor discovers that his wife has been practicing magic for years
Dumbest husband. Everytime his wife tried to warn him or told him not to do something he did the opposite and got them into more danger!! His wife had to suffer because of his stubbornness. One gripe I had with the movie itself was that I wished they had explored his life slowly falling apart as soon as the protection broken. Very satisfying ending.
Rating 6/10
Caligari (1962) Jane's car breaks down and she makes her way to a nearby estate, owned by a mysterious man named Caligari.
First of all the actress’ voice is effing annoying. She sounds like a toddler, or as if she’s suffering from a cold. The minute she passed out and woke up in new clothes, as soon as she was supposed to leave, why the heck didn;t she try to escape? Why did she have dinner with those weirdos? There was no sense of urgency. Not even the man who seemed the most normal, didn’t try to get her some help. Instead he tells her to go to bed. She doesn’t want to be there and instead of trying everything in her power to escape, she half asses it the whole freaking time. I don’t even feel bad for her.
I guessed the ending and I’m pissed I was right
Rating 6/10
The Day Of The Triffids (1962) After meteors enter Earth's atmosphere, blinding much of the planet's population in the process, plantlike creatures known as Triffids emerge from the craters and begin to take over.
I’m not a fan of apocalyptic movies. This bored me, with a couple of interesting scenes. The plants coming back to life no matter what the characters did to them, and the scene where intruders were holding people captive.
2/10
Captain Clegg (1962) In 18th-century England, the Royal Crown sends Royal Navy Captain Collier and his crew to investigate reports of illegal smuggling and bootlegging in a coastal town where locals believe in Marsh Phantoms.
The Marsh Phantoms look cheesy. Just actors in costumes. No effort put in. The only ‘’horror’’ in this is the very beginning and some talk of the Marsh Phantoms. Otherwise just a typical action/drama. The big reveal was predictable
Carnival Of Souls (1962) A woman survives a car accident, then moves away.
This movie had, what I like to call, the ‘’psycho theme’’. Driving late at night, stopping and staying at a boarding house/hotel, and a creepy man nearby. Because of this it showed promised and did have it’s moments. But it’s ruined by long drawn out scenes of the woman staring off into space, while playing terrible piano music. OR horrible piano music plays while she spends over 3 minutes walking around an abandoned building, doing nothing, I really don’t get the hype. The actress is annoying
