I haven't read the books, but was the portrayal of her in the Queen of the Damned movie not accurate?
I mean Aaliyah did the best she could in that movie. But they amped up the romance level there, a LOT, let’s put it that way.
Akasha is a harsh queen. She canonically has other women raped, her idea to kill all men is not some “feminism idea“, she just sees women as weaker, and men as toxic and wants no resistance against her rule.
This show will not hesitate to go there, I think.
Reading reviews it seems there's still the narrative of Lestat being Louis's abuser. So the mistakes of the first season have yet to be fixed, and I can only assume at this point there's zero intention of doing so.

Her gender is very much like in the books - ALL the books.
She rejects societel norms. What she identifies at is her business, and the show has not forgotten to address it, they have her address how she sees herself.
It is not, in all likelihood, what people made her into in the fanon versions in their heads, and I don't mean this in any ill will. But most base their headcanons about her solely on TVL or Armand's description, and... that just does not hold throughout the chronicles.

Yeah but, and you probably don’t want to hear it, but Louis‘s story would be similarly in size to this season next season as well, if as much actually, since what is to come involves a LOT MORE characters.
And it’s Lestat‘s story(ies) from hereon, mainly. To put it plainly. Obviously Louis will be part of them. But he is not the one with Akasha. He is not the one body swapped. He is not the one on a journey with the Devil. You get it.
So Jacob going on tour might not impact as much as you‘d think.

May I ask what you think about the new spoiler provided by Jennifer that Lestat and Gabi kill their family. Is it ooc for Lestat in your opinion? Coming from the books I honestly don‘t know how that could be seen as in line with a Lestat who took his abusive father to Nola, who couldn‘t kill him. Do you think the writers try to justify it with him being older in the show, therefore having experienced even more abuse by his family?
Not at all. I thought it made sense and I don't mind the change. To me, it comes across as Gabi orchestrating it, Lestat going along with it and enjoying it.

Trying not to jump to conclusions but can’t help but feel sad that it seems like they've decided to only show the side of Lestat that hates Armand… it seems disappointing to have such a complex and nuanced dynamic to play with and only portray one aspect of it :(

No I don't think I "fell for a tale", and I find that really condescending of you to say. I was just explaining why some of us don't want more of a rehash of what we've seen before and are hoping for a more equal portrayal of their relationship.
But the response from another of your anons shows why this show has yet to fix their mishaps from the first season. The drop means we can never want better for Lestat and never want Louis to make any effort or any amends for his mistakes in the relationship, of which there are many. It doesn't matter what Louis does to Lestat, beat him, ignore him, betray his trust and his consent, whatever. The Drop eclipses all.
Maybe just wait for the season. And sorry if you don’t like what I have to say… but you came to me. Just sayin‘

A lot of people who watched the first episode are saying that Lestat and Gabriella *spoiler* their family. And... really? I've always felt that being forgiving and compassionate is a huge part of who Lestat is. Those are two of the core aspects of his personality.
Sure, he's a monster and all that. He does terrible things. But at the same time, he's the kind of person who forgives people who absolutely don't deserve it. And Lestat genuinely has a deeply kind side to him. Changing details from the books is okay. But removing something that fundamental to the character? That feels like it changes the very essence of who he is.
So my question is: do you think it's possible that Lestat is lying about some of the things he talks about in those six episodes? For example, the story he tells about what he and Gabriella did to their family, what if that's not actually how it happened? Maybe he's presenting events differently because he's trying to live up to the image of himself that Daniel created in the book.
The folks who watched the first ep could not have seen that so they‘re lying.
