The soul stone had released her, at least that’s what the red faced wraith had told her. Her sacrifice had been payment enough. That a balance needed to be restored in the world, and she would be needed. And so she was resurrected. Flesh and bone, sent back to the land of the living.

Natasha felt like it all had been a dream, waking up in Central Park like no time had passed at all. She was in her Black Widow suit, though it was torn in several places, and had many bruises on her body. There was a ringing in her ears, so loud it caused her head to ache and make her disoriented, but she forced herself to her feet anyway. She couldn’t hear the crowd of people as she stumbled through the streets of New York. Couldn’t hear the honking of cars, dogs barking, anything that could have allowed her to feel comforted but the familiarity of the city.

She didn’t even know where she was going, but her feet seemed to be taking her back to a safe-house she kept nearby. She had burner phones there waiting, she could call a friend. Clint. Steve. Tony. Anyone. The confusion was immeasurable, and though she was always one to be stoic and calm, panic threatened to bleed into her senses. She stopped, and forced herself to take several deep breaths.

As her own power grew, she found that she was attuned to the world like nothing she had never experienced. It was like she could sense a change or a disturbance in forces that many could not perceive. Sometimes it was like a small blip and it passed and other times, it came in strong waves that could send her dizzy. The kids were at school and Vision was away. Of course, it would be a time she was alone.

Putting the laundry basket aside, she breathed for a moment and closed her eyes, trying to hold down the feeling of nausea. Closing her eyes, it was like her world was spinning, becoming like a rapid current as it rushed through her until it ceased and she opened them again. She blinked a couple of times, stunned as she was seemingly in New York but wasn’t sure exactly where.

She turned and the sight she saw could of took the wind out of her. She was alive! “Natasha.” She called out, in disbelief almost before she picked up the pace and caught the other woman. “You are..” She was in awe to say the least as she looked the woman up and down.

Sharon offered the other woman a warm, sympathetic smile hoping that Wanda could see that it was genuine care and not just an act. She had offered her help to Wanda and she fully meant to stand by that. “Of course he does, you both do” Sharon had never loved someone the way that Wanda had, but she had had to say goodbye to her aunt and the funeral had been a huge help with that “once we recover the body I’ll help you get whatever kind of funeral you’d like for him.” Vision had helped save the world more than once, he’d sacrificed his life for it, Sharon was pretty sure she could swing a fully military honours if she asked for it.

“I know” Sharon was just glad that Wanda had come to her first, at least this way she could make sure that either this was done within the law and if it wasn’t she could be there to help get it done regardless. Sharon’s offers of help weren’t hollow, she’d already given up her life once to help a friend at least this time she had more power to help. And she’d use every last ounce of it. “I’d like to think someone would fight this hard for me one day, Vision is lucky to have you.”

Wanda looked down for a moment. She was so used to people pushing against her. For everyone always tearing something away from her that she didn’t know what to do when someone didn’t do that. That they actually said they would assist her rather than try and stop her. It felt a little less lonely. “Thank you.” Wanda murmured as she shifted the ring up and down on one of her fingers. She honestly didn’t plan a funeral but she just wanted closure. Everyone seemed to have gotten something back but Wanda didn’t. She came back to a lonely existence and she wasn’t sure what was better anymore.

As Sharon acknowledged Wanda doing what she had to get him back, Wanda nodded slowly. It was like trying to cut a business deal with her emotions and Wanda wasn’t a business woman. She didn’t come to negotiate. For her, this was happening one way or another and she was willing to take it as far as she needed to before it resulted into something she regretted. “And will you try and stop me?” Wanda’s lips tightened as she asked the question. She didn’t want to hurt anyone but she wasn’t going to stop. Not until she had put this to bed. “Everyone seemed to get something back but...” Wanda rubbed her lips for a moment. “Vision never wanted to be anyone’s weapon if something...anything happened to him and I can’t...I can’t let people violate him.”

Sharon had the clearance, and that stretched beyond S.H.I.E.L.D where her status as director combined with the few contacts she had made along the way meant that she was able to get information on just about anything. But she wasn’t naïve enough to believe she could get to anything, even she had her limits. “I can certainly throw all my status at it” She nods in agreement, smiling sheepishly “but I have to warn you I’ve caused a little…trouble with Trask so there may be some pushback.”

A lump formed in Sharon’s throat, she knew exactly what Wanda could and would do on behalf on this personal mission, and the unfortunate consequences of these actions would mean that Sharon would be expected to use S.H.I.E.L.D to handle it. She didn’t want to do that. “I appreciate you coming to me first” She offers honestly, having a feeling she didn’t need to mention where Sharon’s alliances would have been expected to lie. She was sure Wanda knew that already “I’ll do everything I can to help you.”

Wanda stood there for a moment. She was too antsy to have a seat. Too on the edge essentially. When Sharon said she could try for her, Wanda let out a breath that she felt like she had been holding in since she arrived into the room. “Thank you.” She breathed quietly as she closed her eyes briefly for a moment. She didn’t know what she could say essentially. “Look, I don’t care. Vision is...was something. They can’t just...he deserves a funeral.” Wanda pressed on. Any sign of doubt was not what she needed. “I deserve it.” She reaffirmed as her lips tightened at the admission.

Wanda’s fingers twitched as she fidgeted on the spot. She knew she was teetering a fine line. It also wasn’t the first time she had been in trouble with the legal team when it came to superheroes and their new laws. After all, she stood with Steve during the battle in Germany against the Accords. “I’m not leaving without him. You must know that, right?” Wanda told her. She wasn’t going to make no disguise over her intentions of what she planned to do.

“Oh that stars yes, deep space is vast and oddly colorful.” She says cheery like, knowing that humans haven’t explored as far as she has she enjoys talking about the subject with them. They always seemed intrigued though she fear she can’t give them all the information they want. When the question of whether things were lonely before Mantis thought for a moment while taking a small sip of her tea then replied. “No. Because there’s always something new changing when we travel. Its actually quite peaceful more then it ever is lonely.” She answers. “Have you ever thought of traveling space?”

Wanda watched the other woman as she spoke about her experiences with space. “It sounds beautiful.” Wanda admitted, looking into her large cup of coffee. She often found herself drinking it but not out of thirst but a way to keep her from falling asleep. It was if she closed her eyes that she would be asleep for days. “Me?” She asked before chuckling a genuine one for a change. “Oh goodness know. For people like me you have to have all this special training.” She shook her head before she spoke. “Though I’d give anything to get out of here. Leave this behind. All of it.”

Admittedly Sharon was a little shocked to see that it was Wanda on the other side of the knocking at her door, she’d had all kinds of people come knocking up to now but she was certain she would never be seeing the woman again after their last encounter. She was more than happy to be proved wrong however, mostly because Sharon was pretty sure Wanda wasn’t here to demand something for one of the departments. “Of course” She offers brightly, motioning for her to come into the office “please come in and take a seat, ignore all the paperwork. No rest for the wicked and all of that.”

With the closing of the door Sharon quirks an eyebrow in curiosity, she may have seen Wanda’s powers in action before but it was still something that could catch her slightly off guard. She contemplates asking Wanda if she wants a drink or anything of the like but one look at the other woman’s face squashes that thought, she instead rests back in her chair and lets the silence stretch until the other woman is ready to talk. As the topic breaks Sharon sighs, her eyes automatically looking at the open file on her desk that is dealing with exactly that “I’d heard.” She couldn’t imagine how hard that would be for Wanda, and now she had to deal with the idea of what they’d been doing with Vision’s body for the past five years. “I don’t know anything right now” Sharon offers slowly, blue eyes briefly scanning the pages in front of her to check “but I can certainly try and find out for you.”

Wanda couldn’t help but feel cheated. Natasha had taught her how to play pretenses and she supposed she could to a certain extent but Wanda was an emotional person. She led with her heart more times than her head. Rules be damned if it wasn’t right. Sharon had a sunny disposition and whether it was her training or how she genuinely was, she couldn’t help but feel envious.

Her fingers toyed with the many rings she wore. Force of habit she couldn’t eliminate completely. As Sharon stated she didn’t know anything as of this moment, Wanda sucked in a trembling lip as she sucked back her emotions. “You have some sort of clearance don’t you?” She asked her, straight to the point. “Look...” Wanda looked down for a moment, trying to compose her words. She was the one asking for the favour. “I could go down there and tear building apart like a doll house to find him or force them to tell me but I don’t want to do that.” Wanda’s eyes lingered as she looked at Sharon. “But I will do what I have to.” And she knew Sharon knew what she meant. “I’m trying to do this the right way. The legal way.”

Wanda stood in the doorway for a moment. It seemed weird seeing things come together as they were. Sharon really was putting SHIELD back together. It was starting to look that way. The bones coming together but now the muscle was needed. She felt out of place among those in suits and holsters in her casual civilian clothing. Knocking on the door ajar, Wanda stepped in. “You told me to use this if I ever needed anything.” She flashed the card she had handed her over last time. “I need something.”

Wanda flicked her wrist, the door closing on its own. The silence hung in the air perhaps too long before Wanda seemed to muster up the power to speak. “I guess you heard what was on the news.” Her eyes were looking down to the ground, unable to look at Sharon for a moment. “These...things. They based it around Vision.” Wanda’s eyes flickered up, the corner of her lips twitching. “When I came back, his body was gone and I don’t know where he is. If he...if they....” Wanda couldn’t put it into words. “I just need to know if they have him.”

“It’s alright Wanda.” Mantis assured. She had noticed Wanda’s demeanor assessing it to be very melancholy. She was told to be careful and not to pry into other peoples business while she was here for however brief amount of time that was. “It was very sudden, my asking I mean I did just sort of waltz up on you out of no where.” Mantis admits, and where most would be awkward and shy about admitting the circumstances Mantis was more joyful as if it wasn’t something to be mildly shy about. “We are far from calm, I find I like it though compared to my living before. I am never bored, though it is not always a good thing. A lot of the times we seem to put Quil in dangerous situations or them encourage so. I do not know if we are simply seeking entertainment by doing that or enjoy the enduing chaos most of the time.”

At her reassurance, Wanda forced out the best smile she could in the given circumstances. It seemed everyone was handling everything so well and, she felt the world had forgotten her. Left her behind. This was her trying desperately to cling on and keep up. “No, it is nice to get out and not be a wanted fugitive for a change.” She admitted, liking the moment of peace. It helped that Mantis didn’t know her much. She could start again with someone. That and Mantis wouldn’t query what she didn’t yet know. A chance to dull the senses for a moment. “You have the stars around you all the time. I can’t imagine that isn’t worth the chaos.” She could only imagine its beauty. She looked back at the other before she decided to speak. “Was you ever lonely up there?”

The words “You can fix everything” hit him like a ton of bricks. He could see the desperate look in her eyes and a whole new wave of guilt hit him. He wished he could be the Tony everyone needed. This magical Tony that managed to fix his heart and seemed to solve every problem and did everything he could to help everyone around going so far as to giving himself up so they could all have a future. The future he was stuck in. “From what I could tell. I’m a few years younger.” He backed up a bit further. “Oh kay can we stop the harry potter stuff you’re making me a little uneasy.”

Wanda stared back at him before she shook her head. “No. Not until you tell me how you did it.” Wanda pressed on as her bottom lip trembled, becoming increasingly desperate. She was closed to simply seizing his mind and entering it herself to find out just how he did it. If he could come back, so could Vision. “I just need to know that it can be done.” She licked her lips in thought as she looked back at the Avenger. “You created something. It is hard to explain. You and the others with the Soul Stone. You created this...this sentient being.” She didn’t like speaking about him like that but she was trying to see if he knew or at least understood. “And, when Thanos came to Earth, he was killed. Not snapped. Killed. When I came back...his body was gone. Everyone came back but...” Her lips formed thin lines as she was staring at him, desperately hoping for an answer. “He didn’t come back.” She looked to the ground briefly to swallow the lump in her throat. “I need him to come back. Just tell me how you did it.” Her voice was barely a whisper this time.

Could she indeed? Loki somehow doubted she could do so to the level that he had been able to achieve with the scepter. “And yet you stand here judging me. What good is the power to control others if you are clearly not making use of it?” He smirked a little at her description of what those he had been controlling had felt. “Being a part of a greater thing does not necessarily mean one will enjoy it.” Even if she had some vaguely similar power of her own, it was unwise to not fear him. “Then you are very foolish. I could demonstrate very thoroughly how you would very much regret not fearing me.” Naturally being a mortal she had been unable to see beyond what might happen to people caught up in world-altering events. “Which perfectly shows why none of your kind have the will to truly rule this world. I, on the other hand, am ready, willing and able to do so. And yet you oppose me. Is it simply because I do what you cannot?”

Wanda’s lips tightened as he stated that she judged him. “Do what you wish but you hurt someone dear to me. That is what I judge you by.” She said simply. She knew what was right or wrong but Wanda was always pulled by emotional ties to people rather than the rules. Do what was right, even if it meant breaking the rules. “Then if one cannot enjoy it, how is it any better than not enjoying it now?” She asked. As he spoke about fearing him, she scoffed before she tilted her head slightly. “Then do it.” She slowly turned to face the Asgardian. Though she wished it sounded threatening, it was like Wanda had instead found a loaded gun and she was asking him to fire at her with not intent to fight back. “I don’t know what it is you do but people might be more inclined to assist if you tried helping them rather than punishing them.”

clint closes his eyes and clutches his chest as if wounded, head shaking. “no, please don’t ruin my fantasy.” he grins. “my body will not betray me. i can still do back-flips!” it’s true, after all - it may hurt more now than it did ten years ago, but he can still manage all the acrobatics he needs to. and then wanda’s face drops a little. her smile becomes forced. and while he was only trying to say the right thing, guilt drips through him, making his fingertips cold. he looks down. shame runs through him, same as the guilt. “yeah, sure. sorry.” he wants to say we need to talk about it, someday. and you’ll never be ready to until it’s done. we can’t go on living without talking about it. but he stays silent instead. “sorry, wanda.”

Wanda forced a chuckle out of herself as if it betrayed her by even trying. “And I can still lift things with my mind. Your point?” She teased lightly. However, as he said sorry. She nodded slowly. The problem with her mysterious powers was the fact she was attuned to everything. She could “feel” things. People. Their inner workings. Clint’s inner workings. “You do know I can still also read minds, right?” This time, it wasn’t said in a light hearted manner but more serious, as she looked at him. At his apology again, her face contorted. “I’m so sick of people telling me sorry.” She exhaled a shaky breath. She seemed to fall silent for a moment as she looked at the items on the shelf but with no particular interest. “I’m just so tired.” Her voice was barely audible at the small admission.

“I really do enjoy this tea drink we have nothing like this on the ship, nor have I had it on any station or planet we’ve visited. “ Mantis comments as she sips from her cup, holding it with both of her hands to enjoy the warmth of the cup. “It has been interesting to enjoy a Terran lifestyle for the time we are here.” Mantis didn’t often venture out on her own. Last time she did so she didn’t understand how crossings worked and that was quite a fiasco in itself where she had to understand costumes when walking along the streets. “Thank you for joining me today Wanda, I really wanted to try enjoying these cafes I believe they are called? We never truly visit such places. We mostly frequent bars and other unsavory establishments. Its is nice to be somewhere so calm.”

Wanda didn’t know why she agreed to this. She barely knew the other woman but she was trying. Trying not to shut down completely. It was her trying to stay normal but she was finding it so hard. As the other began talking, her eyes seemed occupied out the window, chin resting in the palm of her hand and fingers covering her lips. She blinked slowly. It was like she was present but also elsewhere. “I would of thought space would have had more to offer.” She slowly looked to the other. “I’m sorry.” She shook her head, hands clasping around her drink. “I said I would come for coffee and I am ruining the mood.” She forced a laugh as she looked over to Mantis. “I can’t say your group strikes me as the calm kind.” She offered half a smile.

there’s pain between them. a shared pain, but also a distant one. the kind that words and speech can never truly bridge. he allows her the moment, and tries not to fall into one of his own. “hey, now. i’m still young and spritely.” she’s right, of course: his body has no super serum in it, no powers that will keep his bones from creaking with age, his muscles from fading into aches and pains. he only has so long to continue on as hawkeye. it’s a blessing and a curse. “i think we’ll find a way. we have to.” the ghosts of both their pasts hover around. “they’d want us to go on. and they’re still here… in a way. they’ll never truly disappear, i don’t think.” clint thinks: i can still hear her voice. that’s enough, for me. but it still hurts.

Wanda chuckled the best she could at his words. “I am younger than you and I don’t feel like that.” She mused. However, she closed her eyes for a moment, trying to block out the hardships she had faced. It never seemed to get any easier for her ever since she was a child. She wondered when she would awaken from this daydream of a nightmare. As he continued to talk, Wanda bit her bottom lip before forcing a smile though it wasn’t one of joy. “Can we just not talk about that? Please?” Wanda still wasn’t ready to talk about how hurt she was. It was an open wound that wasn’t healing for her and she was choking on it more and more everyday. She was worried it would consume her.

He had revealed who he was, but if she hoped Loki would reveal more than that, she was mistaken. “Optimistic, too…or just overly hopeful.” Ah, so she was connected to the Avengers. No wonder she felt the need to immediately bring up his defeat. “Really? How sad. And here I thought I had opened his mind to greater things. Typical of a mortal, unable to handle things beyond them.” Supposed to be all-powered? Was she implying that he was not? Loki was irritated, but knowing she knew the Avengers tempered his anger somewhat. Clearly she had just been fed drivel from them. “It would be best if you do not doubt my powers, my dear. That would end badly for you, I fear.” Her boast made him raise an eyebrow slightly, but if she thought he was supposed to be concerned, he was not. “Fascinating,” he said dryly, “I suppose I should avoid your wrath, then?” Naturally mortals measured great achievements in how many lives were lost in order to gain them. “Only those that are necessary. But let me guess–you think any life lost is wrong? And thus I am evil because I disagree?”

Wanda chuckled to herself but it wasn’t one that was humored. It was one that sounded tired. Exhausted. “I can control people.” She said simply. Not to prove any sort of point. Just to let him know she could do the same thing. “They described it like they were drowning. Buried alive. How is that greater things?” Her question was nonchalant as she looked back to him. “I don’t fear you. I have nothing left to lose.” She said, her lips forming thin lines as she said it, the pang in her chest hitting hard as she said it. “I don’t care what you want anymore. What anyone wants.” The words were supposed to sound petulant at best but they were feeble. More that she was too beaten down to continue trying. “I believe in bad but not evil. I wanted to change the world once. That made me the villain. Then I saw what I was doing to people ans I couldn’t...can’t live with myself doing that.”

he blinks, slowly, and forces himself to notice things. noticing things is easy - it stops him from falling too far into his emotions. one: wanda’s alive. two: she’s doing… well, she’s doing well enough to speak to him. three: they are both able to laugh, a little. four: maybe things will be okay. he smiles. “blunt. yeah. i just like to be to the point, you know that. makes it easier, for a kid like me, the never went to school type.” he nods. i know, he could say, having tracked her down, spent some time following, making sure. she probably wouldn’t like that. “it’s something. i don’t know if i can trust it again, though. even with fury in charge, it turned rotten. now… well, who knows, now.”

Her eyes lingered to the ground for a moment too long perhaps. It seemed though she was there, that her mind was preoccupied. It was like a constant yearning for something that wasn’t there. That she felt she needed and no one else could give her. “I think you are a little too old to consider yourself a kid.” She told him with a small smile as she poked fun at his age. “Well, what is the world going to do now without Steve?” She paused for a moment as her expression which seemed washed out enough turned somber. “Without them.” She couldn’t muster their names to her mouth. She just couldn’t.

“What do you mean I’ve been pretty nice considering you’re a stranger in my personal garage.” He pointed out as he rummaged though the drawers in his desk. “Am I supposed to know you?” He asked her before taking as step back from her glowing hand. “Okay, personal space please.” Part of him wanted to call in a suit but he could tell this poor woman was desperate for some context “I was never did in the first place so I never came back from anywhere.” He explained. “I…I think I’m not your Tony,. From what i heard so far I was older didn’t have a glowing magnet in my chest. Sorry to disappoint but i haven’t figured out how to escape death

“This isn’t what it seems. Do I look like some sort of thief to you?” She asked, her features recoiling at what she considered an insult. “Your name was on the shell that killed my parents. You could at least pretend to know me.” She stated bitterly, biting her bottoms lip as she closed her eyes. “I’m sorry.” She whispered. She didn’t mean to use that to attack him but she couldn’t comprehend what was happening right now. Her hand didn’t move from in front of him, it was still glowing the eerie energy as she looked up at him, her cheeks stained with stale tears. “Where did you come back from?” She slowly put her hand down to her side. “I have to know. You could fix everything.”

guilt and grief pierce into him and wash over at once: two strong waves, not one following the other, but all at once. it might have been enough to make him stumble, if he had the capacity in his shock to move at all. “don’t give me a good suggestion like that - i’ll be as boring and sweet-tongued as dear old cap, if i have to train myself not to swear.” his quips are automatic. trained. they come as easily as an arrow would nock, draw, fire. what to say: i’m sorry i’ve missed you are you okay what can i do. what to say: i know i know i feel it too nat’s gone remember that i lost nat. his jaw will not open for the words. “don’t be ridiculous. it’s business expenses. and mrs feinberg in three-b will hunt you down so she can bake you cookies in thanks.”

Wanda didn’t need the power she had to read Clint. He may of been an agent but she believed in him because he did something not many people offered her; a chance to just be better. Was able to offer logic to her own emotions. Able to give her the tough love to get up off her backside and do something as she tried to stand by, inactive. She owed him so much and she did, she felt, was let him down. As he mentioned Steve, her laugh caught in her through, like she shouldn't before a weak chuckle escaped her. “Steve always did have a way with words. So do you. You were just a little more blunt.” She admitted with half a smile. “I prefer living off the grid these days. I heard SHIELD is starting back up. That is something, right?”
