‘We genuinely have too many potatoes, I cannot stress enough’: 42,000 pounds of free taters headed to Denver

Twenty-one tons of potatoes are up for grabs at Potato Palooza on Monday.

The nonprofit’s set to receive a donation of 21 tons of tubers this weekend from suppliers in the Midwest. Hoping to get the starchy vegetables to people in need, the nonprofit will host a “Potato Palooza” event on Monday in Park Hill. “Anyone is welcome to come. They can bring tote bags, wagons, you could back up your pickup truck if you wanted to,” Hissong said. The event is 9 a.m. to noon at the Park Hill Food Recovery Hub, 6090 East 39th Avenue, on July 27.

The donated potatoes are being distributed by We Don't Waste. They're an amazing organization that gathers unused food from restaurants, shops, and warehouses and passes them along to places like food banks and shelters. They also host markets for people in need to come "shop" fresh food. I've volunteered for them at a market.

J was notified by his IT department that it's time for him to ship his laptop back to headquarters for whatever they do with it once a year. He was told it would need to be sent back Wednesday morning and he will get it back Friday. He tries to take a week off every quarter, so he put in a PTO request for his week since he'll be without his laptop for two and a half days. His boss denied the request since two other people are already out, even though J is not the backup for either of them. Fine. So he asked for next week off and she approved that.

His laptop is now not going to be returned until Monday. So because his boss is an idiot, he's going to get back from his PTO to a week and a half of emails and his clients are NOT patient people. I hope she enjoys being his out of office contact person next week.

Well I got a reprieve for a couple of hours. It was nice while it lasted.

I picked up a GI bug last night. I've managed to stop throwing up but I'm still really nauseous and I kept noticing that my heart was racing and I felt panicky. J asked me what was wrong and I started crying and talking about hours being sick like this reminds me of my miserable pregnancy* and my lizard brain is panicking that the sick feeling is never going to end. Mind you, this was out of nowhere. I didn't know that trauma was still lurking. I'm a pro at repressing my feelings until I have time to deal with them and I guess I never got around to that with a new baby. That baby is now almost 20 and I have some things to unpack.

The local water utility has set up a tip line to rat out people who are watering their lawns too often, are wasting water by badly setting up their sprinkler heads, etc. and the consensus on social media is that only nosy Karens will participate and everyone should MYOB. Fuuuuuck that. I will narc on every neighborhood asshole who thinks the rules are for other people and their lush green lawn is sacred. To hell with them. We're facing a major drought after record low snow totals in the mountains. Enjoy your fines, assholes.

I just took Roni for her morning walk and it just makes me so happy to live in a neighborhood built on the 70s because of all of the 50 year old evergreens and silver maples and ash trees and the wonderful shade they give and all of the birds that make them their home so I can enjoy bird song while walking my dog.
