"Really? What’s the dust for?" Nyx asked, genuinely surprised. Even if the pattern wasn’t familiar, she had seen plenty of markings and tattoos that incorporated dust. Most of them were for show, and she doubted the boy had been born with markings like that just for show.
Her hand brushed over her weapon’s holster, and an idea sparked in her brain.
"Wait, is it anything like my gun?" She said, pulling Timbre Spectrum out of its slot, flicking the silencer so half the lines around the barrels lit up with red dust. "See, my gun’s got two types of ammo, and the lines light up, depending on what kind of ammo its set for."
Sanguiris started to explain,
"I was born bruised, with the patterns you see now, except they were dead and dark. When I was ten, I exploded in a fit of rage, and the dust activated, conducting everything around me in a certain radius and granting me loose control of lightning. After I settle back down, I exit this mode, and enter a "cooldown" period where I’m extremely weakened, before returning to normal."
"Oooh, I get it. It’s like your semblance, yeah? Except its more like a really cool superpower, and you get awesome looking ink on top of that," Nyx paused, thinking for a few seconds while she pocketed her scattergun, "that must’ve helped you get into Beacon, I bet. An ability like that sounds like a great Grimm slayer."
Nyx fidgeted with the foam ends of her ear buds, suddenly aware of how lame her own semblance seemed in comparison. She also became acutely aware of the clouds that had moved on, no longer blocking the sun. Her extra ears twitched, flicking down briefly before coming back to their natural position.
"Speaking of Beacon, what’re you going there for? ‘Cause you were muttering something about research before I came over."
"Well," He said, slumping his shoulders, "When I was five, my sister killed our parents, took the family heirloom, and has been on a raging murder-spree ever since. The problem is, she has a semblance where her body is like a rapidly-regenerating organism all of its own; if she’s hurt, her body just regenerates in seconds. There’s only one thing that prevents her regeneration cycle, and that’s…" He held up his arm and tapped the dust patterns on it, "lightning. I’m not here to hunt Grimm, not really. I’m here to find a way to track and finally hunt down my own sister."
"O-oh," she said, taken aback by the tale. "Well, I'm just here 'cause my mentor said I'd be a good huntress. No special clause or anything. But, I hope you find your sister and all that!"
Despite the cheerful edge she tried to put on, she couldn't help the frown as she sorted the story out. Interesting that she had never heard anything of a mass murderer like that. Faunus talked, lots, and she had been privy to all sorts of news that most people wouldn't even begin to imagine.
"You know, my mentor used to go to Beacon. She didn't tell me much about initiation, but she told me we're all gonna be working in teams of four. Maybe your team will help you with your hunt."
