sad sangihun & sangwoo-centric thought dump

death and grief is such a difficult topic for me to write because of my own personal experiences but something about the concept of sangwoo losing gihun and gihun dying before him has been on my mind for fucking ages rotting my brain, particularly because of a really GOOD fic i read. i talked a bit abt this on twitter yesterday, but i just dont think sangwoo can handle grief at all. i think he wouldnt have the mental capacity to handle his grief; i think it would swallow him whole and refuse to spit him out. i think if gihun died before sangwoo, especially in a particularly gruesome or painful way, he would go mad and wouldnt be able to function.

and generally i think this goes for any of sangwoo’s closer loved ones. i personally think if sangwoo lost his mother he would also stop functioning. especially if he lost her before saying goodbye or that he loves her. i think his feelings would eat him alive and hed just completely shut down and refuse to take further care of himself because to him its permanent and hes permanently losing a part of himself.

i think as a kid death was a really weird concept for him to grasp. from a very young age, hes realized that death is permanent and eternal, all-encompassing. in others it doesnt bother him as much since he knows thats how life goes, but that sentiment felt so different when it came to loved ones. and he didnt fear the concept of death for himself, but when it came to those he cared about, it terrified him. he was more open to dying than to watching the people close to him die.

adding onto that, i think because sangwoo was much more aware and intelligent from a young age, he was very prone to existential crisis from a young age, that he dealt with mostly by himself because the people around him didnt understand or couldnt grasp the concept of an eight year old contemplating his final minutes on earth and what living really meant. and he didnt talk to anybody about this, because why would he have?

i dont think sangwoo was very philosophical at all, especially not when it came to humanity or those around him. but i do think that when he was a kid he struggled to understand the world the same way ‘normal’ kids did because everything was so complex and layered and from a younger age he understood that.

Hey so actually what's wrong with people enjoying something as long as they do and then turning their attention to other interests when they're ready?

The internet does not owe you content. Other people do not owe you entertainment. Phases, impermanence, and brief loves are normal and good.

To demand that anyone, yourself included, remain continuously active and vocal in any single interest or hobby is a recipe for burnout.

Furthermore, there's NOTHING wrong with stopping by in an interest, fandom, or hobby for just a little while. In fact it's GOOD for you! You're SUPPOSED to explore things that interest you, and very few of them will be lifelong or even years or months long.

Personally I find this kind of mindset hostile, juvenile, and gate-keep-y. You put "fans" in quotations because they didn't stay in the same place as long as you? Fuck off 🙄

Everyone is welcome in my fandom space. I don't care if you've been into my hobby for a day or a decade. We're all just here to play - right?
