So, it turns out that "Charades" as a social game throughout eras, has a LOT more wikipedia history than I remember.
The au is still in the making tho (i say to my imaginary audience). Its really got a leash on me.
Until i figure stuff out, here's another drawing of my Digital Charade AU's Jax. Isn't he a sweetheart.
Basic information about this au. In case youre curious about stupid lore.
- The The Amazing Digital Charade was a video game created by the government with the intention of preparing humans for possible apocalyptic scenarios, ex: isolation, mass brainwashing, propaganda, chemical wars, pandemics. All under the facade of games with highly intelligent AI as hosts. These details were never disclosed with the beta testers.
- It is based both on the traditional game of charade and the literary version of it (plus the definition meaning of the word being "absurd facade")
-In it, players have to go on "adventures", interact with npcs and identify which one of them is the "Star of the show". After the npc is identified, a quest will be given by them in the form of a riddle.
- As time went on, the charade started glitching. (wow) Sometimes the riddles given by the "Star of the show" are vague or incomprehensible. Other times they're not even riddles, but unsettling insinuations to events that took place or will take place in the real world. These bugs happen due to player data leak and external hijacking of safety protocols.
- Once joining the Charade, each player gets a new appearance based on their life beforehand. The more dramatic and exaggerated, the better. As in a typical game of charades.
- Though, there's a cruel twist to that concept. The avatars reflect a person's biggest flaws. Similar to the standard au, just with a bit of theatrical touch. (Ten times worse).
- Depending on how grave a person's flaw was back in the real world, the game will make ironies at the playey's expense. Example: Someone who, as a human, was mistrustful of others to the point of paranoia, could get the avatar of an anthropomorphic horse. Due to the "Never look a gift horse in the mouth" proverb.
Another example could be someone who, let's say used their good looks to climb ranks or belittle others. They'd be a frog in the Charade. Following the saying of "To be as ugly as a frog".
Further appearance stuff, justification and facts:
- Jax is based on the philosophical concept of "Momento Mori" (Remember that you must die). This concept has at its root the ideal of detaching one'a self from any sort of entitlement, grandiosity or unfiltered pride.
Yeah the game had a blast roasting Jax, alright.
- If you've noticed, his legs are weird looking. (Double jointed + very fuzzy wire like). It's a metaphor for his tendency to "misstep" or "trip" in relationships with people. Even with those that he truly does care about.
Plus the whole deal with another philosophical far fetched concept. Aesop's stories. In his stories the hare, while faster, often tripped over his own ego.
- His body is actually hell to be in btw, because
1. The bones have heightened sensitivity. Imagine like, lowkey having all your nerves exposed. It doesn't hurt Jax on the daily, but if he bumps into something, he'll be swinging between being angry and crying because it all sucks so bad.
2. Double jointed wire-like legs. (He gets used to them after a while)
3. Huge stupid plushie-like rabbit ears
