Culling Voices
By Tool
This song is very self explenatory with very short lyrics. The instrumentals add onto the overall feeling of how emotions in delusion progress. From quiet confusion to frustration as your thoughts dont align with what reality is. "Imagined interplay" for me has had the meaning of all the parasocial conversations one helds with people you dont discuss with otherwise, or the expirience of hearing voices. "Disembodied voices deepen my suspiscious tendencies" is such a good descriptor of what voices are and feel like. Disembodied thoughts and counscience of the mind. In this instance they enhance paranoia of the narrator, which is something I can trully relate to.
The exchange of the word to mislead and to misread in relation to "psychopathy" trully hit the nail for me as my delusions cause me to believe my diagnosis is there to mislead me, and that it misreads me.
"Dont you dare point that at me" Further frustration and a typical quote from a persecutory delusional with lack of insight. Alike me.
Quite a personal track today. It is great at putting complicated, confusing expiriences into words and into digestible music.

destroyer by The Kinks
While a lot of people will point to Acute Paranoia Schizophrenia Blues as the “schizospec” kinks song and that is correct and I do love it, Destroyer is incredibly relatable to me as someone with severe paranoia and delusions as my primary symptom.
Within the song, the singer sings about his deep paranoia and how it affects his life, his relationships and I’ve always related to it as someone who can be really erratic and fearful and and jump from emotion to emotion when I’m paranoid.
+ it has great call backs to Klassic Kinks songs.
In-Sight
Dead Kennedys
A typical perspective on american jock culture of the 80s from Dead Kennedys. This time jocks are picking on a kid that seem unconventional to them. A song for the people that have acted in tune with their disorder in a way it only serves as judgement for others.
"What he sees escapes our sight !"

Pushit
By Tool
This track by tool can be about relationship to others during episodes. When you disagree about reality with the people around you, and how one reacts to it. In this song, with aggression. The "I" character yearns to dive deeper into ones delusional world. "Know that I will choke until I swallow" a lyric from when an episode forms.
The lyric "And if when I say I might fade like a sigh if I stay, you minimize my movement anyway. I must persuede you another way." is a great descriptor of how a person with lack of insight might react to people in their life wanting to either prove them wrong or get them to the hospital, espescially with persecutory delusions.

cotard’s solution - will wood and the tapeworms
not only is this and the previous song (mr. capgras encounters a secondhand vanity) off this album, self-ish, are named after delusions of the same names (cotard’s delusion and capgras delusion), but cotard’s solution specifically was VERY terrifyingly similar to one of the delusions i had in my first episode at 16. cotard’s *delusion* is about one believing themself to be dead or nonexistent, but this song seems more like the singer is terrified they’re going to be replaced, likely after being killed
The confusion of a psychosis is there aswell, full chaos. Confusion of identity is described too.

"Lithium - Nirvana
The song talks about a man using religion to cope. Sounds a lot like religious psychosis to me and ofc lithium is prescribed to some schizospec people"
-The verses repeating "im not gonna crack" remind me of me missing my voices but trying to convince myself I dont want them back.
"Infested - Choking Victim
Pretty sure this is about infestation in the none delusion/hallucination sense but I have delusional infestation and tactile hallucinations relating to that so its relatable"
making plans for nigel - xtc
this song is about the infantilization of nigel by his parents. as a person dealing with schizospec, i often feel like my life is micromanaged by others because i have no aspirations of my own. i'm constantly told what goals i should be working towards, what i should be doing with my life. i usually go along with it because what else am i supposed to do?
Prelude to Fear
By Sausage
"Caution...." This intro track tackles the topic of paranoia. Portrays how scattery the senses are and how bizzare the feeling really is. The keyword anticipation is really good to use when describing this song. For some, the way its written can lead to relating it to disorganized speech and/or thinking. Anyone can expirience paranoia and I think this song is sweet at describing it. The musical breakdowns match up with how erratic one can act or feel during swings of such episodes.
