Socratic dialogues notes in progress.
Last week’s spread. Am I doing tumblr right yet? I don’t think so.

[04.04.17] | 1/100 bujo spread for this week! I tried a more artsy style with printed photos this time (doodle inspo and images from pinterest).
Also, since I’ve been more active recently, I’ll try 100 days of productivity. Hopefully this will help me spend summer wisely haha
{ in order to bloom one must first be buried}
Not my most favorite spread, but it did its job right. My mental health has been kind of iffy this week so I’m hoping that keeping my mind on cleaning/re-decorating/re-arranging my room will keep my focus on something more productive. There’s nothing like a good spring cleaning and my room definitely needs some tidying up.

I know we’re already half way into May but here’s my spread for the month 😂 As you guessed, coffee has been my saviour this month ☕️♡

Stress Management Techniques for Reducing Test Anxiety
Technique #1: Challenge yourself–defeating thoughts
“If you knew you could handle anything that came your way, what would you have to fear.” — Susan Jeffers, Ph.D.
The way you think about a situation dictates how you will react to it. If you are thinking about test situations in a negative, worried, or fearful way, you will likely have a high degree of test anxiety. You are scaring yourself by telling yourself you cannot handle tests. These thoughts are self–defeating.
To challenge yourself–defeating thoughts, first identify what you say to yourself about tests. These statements typically have “catastrophic” overtones. Once you recognize what you are saying to yourself, come up with a realistic coping statement. Coping statements allow you to problem–solve instead of panic.
Example : “I could never study enough for this test.” -> “I have a lot to study for this test, but if I stick to my schedule, I can do it.”
Technique #2: Thought Stopping
When you feel anxious, listen to what you are telling yourself. Interrupt your anxiety-producing thoughts by yelling “STOP” to yourself. Take a deep breath, and make yourself come up with a coping statement. Do this as often as necessary before and during a test. Use the following procedure to learn this technique.
Practice the thought–stopping technique any time you begin to feel anxious. Eventually, it will become a method that feels comfortable and almost automatic.
Technique #3: Recognize your control in the outcome of a test
It is self–defeating to tell yourself that your test performance is not in your control. These thoughts create anxiety and prevent you from studying effectively. Focus on what you can do to improve your test performance.
Technique #4: Deep breathing
Deep breathing is one of the simplest techniques you can use to reduce anxiety before, during, and after a test. Breathing provides you with oxygen necessary to think clearly and releases physical tension at the same time.
Close your eyes.
Breath through your nose. Breathe in deeply into your abdomen. Pause before you exhale.
Breathe out from your abdomen slowly.
Use each inhalation as a moment to become aware of any tension in your body. Use each exhalation as an opportunity to let go of tension.
Repeat once, then return to the test.
Technique #5: Imagery and Visualization
Use this technique before a test to calm yourself and improve your concentration. Create a visualization that works for you. Remember, the purpose of visualization is to help you relax and cope.
Imagery
Imagine a scene that feels pleasurable and relaxing.
Let yourself stay with that scene for a few moments
Once you feel relaxed, imagine going in for your test.
Imagine yourself calmly sitting down, waiting for the professor to pass out the test. As you receive the test, you say to yourself “I am prepared. Relax. Concentrate.” You turn the test over and read the directions, planning your time carefully. You read and answer the first question…
Visualization: “Quick pics”
Think about something melting when you want to relax. “Melting” evokes many images:
snow melting in the sun
a flame melting candle wax
marshmallow melting in hot chocolate
butter melting in a pan
chocolate chips melting in Toll House cookies
Technique #6: Muscle relaxation
Progressive muscle relaxation is a very effective technique, which you can use daily as well as before and after a test situation
Technique #7: Avoid stress triggers
Avoid people or situations that create anxiety.
Avoid discussing course material with other students immediately before the test. Last minute cramming generally causes more anxiety and concern about how and what you studied.
Pay attention to the time allotted for the test, but avoid excessive clock–watching
Avoid getting to the test “just in time.” Plan to arrive early to settle in and relax.
Avoid food or drinks that are stimulants and increase “jitters.” (This varies by individual).
Avoid believing rumors you hear about the test. Check it out with the person who really knows – your professor!
Avoid talking about your test grade with other students if this increases your anxiety. If you feel uncomfortable with being asked “How did you do”, respond with “I did as well as I expected.” or “I’d rather not talk about my grades.”
Avoid checking the progress of other students during the test. Remember: it doesn’t take long for someone to complete a test when he/she hasn’t studied.
Conduct your post–test review by yourself if discussion with your classmates increases your anxiety.
unconventional study tips
- buy yourself new stationery: i get so excited about using new pens that i don’t mind writing that essay i’ve been putting off for days
- use a playlist as a study timer: have a selection of instrumentals and songs with lyrics. take a break everytime a song with lyrics comes on and work during the instrumentals
- make your study space smell fresh: mint and lemon tend to be good options
- write down how much time you spend studying for a test and then the grade you got: then you can figure out how time you really need to spend to get a good grade. this will help you use your time more effectively
- spend your study breaks showering or exercising for about 30 mins: then come back fresh and quickly review what you have learned. this will help the information sink in
- don’t always study in comfy clothes or pyjamas: do your hair or makeup if you want too. this will put you in ‘get shit done’ mode
- record yourself explaining topics you’ve just studied: explaining/teaching topics helps you learn so much better, and you also have a little video to review before tests
- Clean your backpack and organize your books, notebooks, laptop and study materials you will be needing for the week
- Clean your pencil pouch in case you have random things that have ended up there
- Meal prep- if this is something you don’t do at all, maybe see how it works for you for a week. If you are not a meal prepper, try setting aside the food you’ll have for breakfast the next day
- Clean your bedroom and study space- this will help clear your mind. Having a clutter-free space will relax you aswell
- Update your bujo/agenda with the upcoming events of the week- also, remember to re-write any tasks that you haven’t done from the previous week
- Make a to-do-list for Monday- categorize according to priorities. Also, try starting your list with a task you know you will easily accomplish, such as “eat breakfast”, so that you are motivated to keep on crossing tasks
- Work out- maybe go for a walk to breath some fresh air and fuel your brain with oxygen, or do whatever helps you move a little bit more than what you usually do during the weekdays
- Have a set beauty routine- paint your nails if that’s what you like, apply a hair or face mask, exfoliate your skin, have a bubble bath, or do whatever you know that will relax you and set you in a good mood
- Review your goals, short, medium, and long term- if you have not written any, this is a good time. It’s always a good thing to check your accomplishments and remind yourself of your future plans. This will help motivate you and will give you an extra boost of energy for the start of the week to keep yourself focused on working on your dreams
- Check the weather for the next day and prepare the clothes, makeup, perfume, etc, that you’ll be wearing for the week- having some extra time in the morning is always nice, as you don’t end up wasting 30 minutes of your time deciding what to wear (as it has happened to me plenty of times)
- Have a tray dedicated to store all the necessary things you can’t forget before leaving your house- gather all of them, such as your keys, your wallet, a water bottle or anything you know you will be needing and place them on the tray
- Water your plants- if you don’t have a set schedule for watering your plats, Sundays are the perfect days for that
- Empty your binders, notebooks or bag from lose pieces of paper and place them where they should be- this way you’ll make sure you’re not misplacing any important information that you might need in the future
- Check your fridge and pantry, make a grocery list and go shopping- by doing this, you’ll be certain that you won’t be running out of the foods you mostly eat in the middle of the week. If your grocery shop is located at a walking distance, you can take advantage of this and use that opportunity to breath fresh air
- Finally, have some time for yourself!- watch a movie, catch up on your favourite show, watch some youtube videos, read a book, write on your journal, play your favourite instrument, have some tea, or do whatever makes you happy. Taking care of yourself will never not be a productive thing to do.
Hope you have a wonderful week!
