Brutus is just as smart as Caesar, people totally like Brutus just as much as they like Caesar, and when did it become okay for one person to be the boss of everybody because that’s not what Rome is about! We should totally just STAB CAESAR!

Misconception: Jeen is a boring, overpowered Mary-Sue (who should just stAY DEAD ALREADY)

OKAY EVERYONE, strap in, cause this is gonna be a wild ride from start to finish.

First, Jean’s hardly boring. From her early life, where she experienced such shock trauma that she retreated into her own mind, to the gentle coaxing it took to bring her back, to her whirlwind life with the X-Men as Marvel Girl, the Phoenix, just as Jean Grey, and having to deal with being overwhelmed by others’ thoughts and emotions and learning to shut all that out CONSTANTLY, she’s hardly boring. She’s had a rich (if not confusing, at times) backstory that I absolutely adore and I will fight anyone who calls her boring.

Second, oh GOD, I FUCKING HATE “Mary Sue” being thrown around in regards to women characters. You know who’s a fucking Mary Sue? SUPERMAN. He’s a superpowered alien who’s invulnerable to everything except one element. That’s it. One fricking thing. You know who else is a Mary Sue? Wolverine. Same deal, except the only thing that could kill him was taking away his healing factor and coating him in adamantium. I love BOTH these characters, don’t get me wrong, but the accusation of Mary Sue is lobbed heavily at women in ALL superhero stories, while male characters rarely get hit with the Gary Stu label.

But EVERY character who has super-ANYTHING is a bit Sue/Stu-ish, and THAT’S OKAY. Because the point of these characters? Is to see parts of ourselves, but with strengths we don’t have. Jean is a brilliant woman in the first place, an incredibly empathetic woman who’s a tactical damn genius and, if she’d been placed in a role that wasn’t as a mutant? Would’ve made a brilliant military-type character, or a police officer, or any other number of things. But she’s a mutant, and that’s what lets people relate to her and escape in her characterization. It’s escapism.

And! If you only point out how overpowered women in comics/movies/etc are, but not the men? Well, you’re probably a sexist d-bag who needs to lay off the Mountain Dew and Doritos.

Lastly, fuqu Emma, JEAN NEVER DIES :DDD She’s the Carol of the X-Men!
