This took quite a while, but I still want to share!

At first people and monsters lived in peace, but the two nations had so many fights, that is resulted in monsters leaving humans and resorting to living in isolation, surrounded by mountains and a dense forest. Later on, monsters even put up a barrier to keep humans away. Each human that happen to get inside never came back. But the thing is: the monsters DON'T want to leave their fenced forest, because why would they?? humans suck! And they don't need the human souls to break their barrier, on the contrary, they need them, to keep it UP. To keep on living safely in their paradise, away from filthy world beyond the fence. And all the humans before Frisk either died voluntarily by giving up their souls to keep the barrier up (as an act of self sacrifice) or were such menaces that they had to be killed (as a sacrifice)

So the AU has two meanings: "The world is changing" and "Changes are scary"

Monsters live in their isolation constantly, convinced that the world beyond the isolation is terrible. And they have living proof of that - humans that came and wreaked havoc in monsters' paradise. And humans that came to them for a better life, because they also believed that the world around them is terrible
