California and Santa Cruz County Election Results 11/8/2016 First, all local measures passed, along with State Propositions 51, 52, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 63, 64, 66, and 67. State Proposition 53, 60, 61, 62, and 65 failed. Trump won the presidency, the Republicans won 51 seats in the Senate (giving them the majority but not a super majority), and they also won 239 seats in the House of Representatives (giving them the majority). Since they have not approved Obama’s pick for Supreme Court, they will be deciding that seat as well. This means that the Republicans hold power in all three branches of government. Republicans also won the majority of Governorships and 69 of 99 State legislative chambers nationwide. . .

Today is election day, polling locations open at 7:00am and close this evening at 8:00pm. You can look up your Polling Location here, if you are voting by mail see list of voting locations towards the middle of this post to drop off your ballot in person.

You cannot campaign within 100 feet of any polling place. This includes campaign materials and clothing. So please wear that campaign t-shirt another day.

If you have any problems voting in person or by mail call (831) 454-2060 or Secretary of State’s toll-free Voter Hotline at (800) 345-VOTE.

If you haven’t decided how to vote yet, check out our non-partisan Voting Guide. Below at the end of this post we have the portion of our voting guide for local Measures D, E, N, and O. Articles listed under “Full Text” are neutral, under “Vote NO” and “Vote YES” are arguing that side of the issue. We also have our article from last year regarding the Fight to Save the Plastic Bag Ban. Good Times also did two voting guide articles this year. Infrastructure is key to managing our 100% local water supply. Last month San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley Water Districts finished the intertie project that was started 12 years ago, which will allow for better management of our vital water supply. The project cost $10 million, and $4.3 million of that came from State Proposition 50 in 2002 which created $3.4 billion in bonds for water projects throughout California. The Proposition got 55.3% of the vote that year, just another reminder of how important it is to vote all the way down the ballot . . .

Santa Cruz County Animal shelter is currently having half off adoption fees threw the end of October, and boy is the shelter full. Because of this and since with the fires and then the storm I haven’t been able to do a pet of the week every week, I thought this week I would highlight three wonderful animals. This week we have Nutmeg a calico Guinea pig, Chirpie a brown tabby domestic shorthair Cat, and Ladybird a black and tan Terrier Border Collie mix.

We have photo of each animal, their information, and even a video of Ladybird playing. If you aren’t looking for a new family member we have a fundraiser for the shelter this Saturday, Bark-Toberfest, from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Just scroll pass our pets of the week for that information.

Events this Weekend 10/14 – 10/16 and more

Correction Loch Lomond is closed. When I checked last week the county website said this was going to be the last weekend. As of Friday 10/15 the county website says Labor Day was it's last weekend. Sorry for the mistake, Rachel.

A Flea in Her Ear is showing this evening at 8:00pm and it’s Community Night, 2 tickets for $20, Saturdays showing is 8:00pm, and Sunday is their matinee at 2:00pm. Tomorrow is Made in the Mountains in downtown Boulder Creek.

This weekend is also Open Studios Art Tours, which features 39 artists in the Santa Cruz Mountains. As well as Thomas and Percy’s Halloween Party at Roaring Camp, trains leave Saturday and Sunday at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm and 2:30pm. Today we have one way traffic on Highway 9 from Bear Creek Road to Kings Creek Road in Boulder Creek due to maintenance operations by CalTrans, from 9:00am - 3:00pm. From Gx-Rincon Railroad Crossing to Glengarry Road, Highway 9 is having a FULL Closure from 6:00am - 8:00pm for Pavement Marker Replacement / Repaving per CalTrans. This portion of Highway 9 will also have a FULL Closure Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday next week for Striping Operations from 9:00am - 2:30pm each day.

Highway 236 is having its last day of FULL Closure from mile marker 9.32 (Big Basin Park Headquarters) to mile marker 17 . . .

Tuesday at 12:27am a small fire started across the street from the popular bar Monty's Log Cabin at 5755 Highway 9 in Felton. An employee reported the fire, then employees and patrons extinguished the fire. Cal Fire also responded and insured that the fire and all embers were out.
