THEY’RE BEST FRIENDS YOUR HONOUR
Be Cool, Scooby Doo - Scroogey Doo
This is the second part of my reading of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! in the context of Star Trek and the larger pop culture landscape of the late 1960s and early 1970s. You may wish to check out part one (covering the period of the show when it was actually known as Mysteries Five) first if you haven't done so already, or even if you have just for a bit of a refresher. This part goes into more detail about the actual show and what I think the main characters represent. And, like the previous part, it's a revised, remixed, expanded and otherwise tweaked version of a piece I wrote a year ago on one of my other blogs.
Here’s an interesting essay from 6 years ago about Scooby-Doo (the original series). In here, Forest of Illusions, the author, discusses the time period's culture and German Expressionism that’s reflected upon the show and how each of the main characters represent.
The whole point of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! then, is that the world is full of manipulative, unscrupulous people who will callously play on people's fears to increase their lot in life at the expense of everyone else's. The only way to live justly and freely in it is to jump in with the spirit of the youth, live our life according to our terms damn what anyone else thinks of us, and expose the wrongdoers for what they are.
For those of you who didn’t watch BCSD, just know that there’s an episode that repeatedly shows Fred’s ass and it’s honestly hilarious
We now want to know if it’s cake
couldn’t help it
I like Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! Daphne was great in it because she wasn't sexualized or was just in love with Fred.
You’re right and you should say it!
Be Cool Scooby Doo succeeded the best out of all Scooby media in 50 years (save for Pup) of making these kids seem like KIDS (even though they were graduated in Be Cool). They’re goofy and fun and have drum solos in the car.
Each of them had developed personalities and Daphne was, imo, the most fun and interesting. Most importantly, they SUPPORTED each other even when they didn’t understand.
They could have done a jealousy plot with Fred and Daphne and Bradwick but they didn’t (Party Like It’s 1899).
They could have had a jealousy plot with Shaggy and Amelia and the rest of the gang, but they didn’t (American Goth).
They could have made the fake dating thing cause a lot of drama but they didn’t (Night of the Upsetting Shorts).
It’s SO GOOD! It’s funny, heartwarming, and definitely my favourite version of Scooby Doo from the last decade.
If the art is turning you away from it, just watch Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get a Clue and you’ll get over that real fast. Besides, Be Cool is basically like Phineas and Ferb’s art but more…anatomical. Y’all loved P&F so why are you hating on this? (the humor is very similar, too!)
The efforts of GIF-ing and posting videos since 2015 has come to this. I feel the victory right now!

It’s Freddy-or-Not!
When we’re dancing, toe to toe, I just feel like I’m in a Broadway show!
Scooby-Doo: Hazmats just scream summer.
I remember the announcement for Scooby/Courage crossover. Like, OK? Sounds too late *shrug emoji*
shelma is not really as bad as people say, they are cute af
I would like them to have a brother-sister dynamic, thank you very much.
happy new year 2020!
Shoulda posted those Christmas special GIFs, if I hadn’t forgotten where I saved it! Plus it would be out of season if I posted it now... and holiday busyness has caught me! Anyway I really hope to post more this year, I’ll see to it /*0*/
I need a series that explores the gang’s friendships more. It is a really untapped part of the franchise.
Just logged in to say
*BE COOL*
