“You’ll take those words back, I can assure you.” She’s barely shaken in her confidence, and it showed in the way she smiled at the captured sniper, the way she looked at her. Once the liquid was injected into her arm, Joe put the needle away, in an inner pocket of her lab coat.
The red-haired turned her back on her, walked around the table in the middle of the interrogation room and took a seat on the chair across from her. Crossing her legs and folding her hands in her lap, she waited silently, not saying a single word, allowing the serum to take effect. Minutes passed.
Then, she clicked her tongue and opened her mouth, grinning. “Well, well, well. Where do we start? So many questions… and all the time in her world.” She let out a small and low laughter and leaned back before she continued.
“Why don’t you start with telling me everything about your mission. For who did you work? What kind of job was that? Who were you supposed to take down?”
Joe shifted in her seat and leaned in a little closer, staring her right in the eyes. “How do you feel now, Xio? Why don’t you be honest?”
Xio frowned at the sudden silence as Joe moved back around to sit down. Whatever she had injected Xio with, she was waiting for it to work and was confident. Xio said nothing, her brown eyes just watching the scientist intently. In her head, she could hear a tick tock, like a clock, counting down seconds until Joe spoke again. There wasn’t a clock in the room, she was imagining it, giving herself a count of how long she was in here.
The ticks went away as Joe spoke, her grin revealing her confidence. Xio frowned slightly, obviously at a disadvantage since she didn’t know what the hell she’d been injected with. She watched Joe as she stared to speak, asking questions.
The sniper’s eyes narrowed at the suggestion, partially in confusion, partially with a clue. Had Joe developed some sort of truth serum? The sniper didn’t say anything for a long minute, considering her options before she opened her mouth.
Immediately, she closed her mouth, her gaze shifting away from the scientist as she mentally cursed herself from answering at all. Joe was the enemy. She wasn’t supposed to have any information. Xio licked her lips, looking back at Joe for a moment, considering.
“It was a simple recon mission - intel. I wasn’t supposed to take anyone out. I have the best eyes on the team.”
Movement from the corner of her eye caught Xio’s attention, but she kept her eyes resolutely on Joe, trying to keep whatever it was in her peripheral, her brown eyes locked on the scientist’s eyes instead.
