The shoot was done, thank Lucifer. Days of wrangling talent, fixing makeup, and reminding Copia for the third time that “ghoulishly sexy” wasn’t the direction they were going for in a horror themed video. Now, her part in this cursed cinematic task was over. There were schedules to maintain. Paperwork to file. Unholy PR disasters to fix.
She had, very graciously, agreed to the Ministry’s offer of a short vacation for those involved. A reward. A thank you. A well earned break.
The forest was silent in the way only cold places could be, the trees standing still like they were holding their breath. Fog rolled thick across the lake just down the hill, its surface glassy and untouched.
Sister Imperator stood outside the too big for its own good cabin, coat wrapped tight around her shoulders. The structure loomed behind her like a giant dollhouse, two floors, ten rooms, and at least one fireplace that absolutely didn't work despite everyone's insistence that it looked like it should. It was… like a painting, if your idea of a postcard involved dense pine trees and the feeling that something might be watching you from the shadows.
She adjusted her gloves, exhaled sharply, and muttered under her breath “Ten rooms. Nine idiots. One Papa. What could possibly go wrong?” With one last long look at the fog creeping up the hill, Sister Imperator clicked her heels against the frozen ground and walked towards the Ministry car.
“I’m sure they’ll be fine” she said to herself, sliding into the backseat with the dignity of a woman who had already accepted that something terrible was probably going to happen and she’d be blamed for it anyway. The car left. Behind her, the fog rolled in thicker. The trees swayed just slightly. And inside the too many roomed cabin, the Ministry's little vacation began.
