"Night of the Witches" by Scott Ferry (black ink drawing, ScottFerry.com) Witches, warlocks, and wizards gather for the Great Sabbath of the year. Some fly to the meeting places on their brooms or forks, others turn themselves into cats, goats, horses, and toads for the journey, some leave their bodies and attend the meeting in spirit, while others cover their bodies with a secret ointment to grow bat wings so they can fly to the gathering. They release their magic to defend it against the rising cross which with its shadow darkened the light of ancient magic.

On my many walks around my area I often find Balsam Apples. Their stark color and spikey pods stand out as something enticing and yet they are mostly poisonous when fully ripe causing vomiting. A cousin of the bitter melon it is interesting how when green they can be eaten and as they change to full color they are toxic. And so too as my Dark Fairy "LIKAA" rises from youth to gain her colors she becomes something dangerous and powerful.

As the spaces in-between open up to give conversation to spirits and ancestors the feelings of nature during Fall and Winter come to swirl around us.
I just finished this wood burning on Halloween night. Pumpkin vines crawl upwards and around the pumpkin. The witch floats behind with a datura hat giving dominion over dreams. Moons phase between full and new.
This is an original illustration and wood burning on basswood. There is a leather cord to hang it on the wall. The artwork is signed and marked by me.
Size is 8"x5".

Blossom tube nosed bat flying around a Datura flower to pollinate.
Datura species are herbaceous, leafy annuals and short-lived perennials which can reach up to 2 m in height. The leaves are alternate, 10–20 cm long and 5–18 cm broad, with a lobed or toothed margin. The flowers are erect or spreading , trumpet-shaped, 5–20 cm long and 4–12 cm broad at the mouth; colors vary from white to yellow, pink, and pale purple.
Datura belongs to the classic "witches' weeds", along with deadly nightshade, henbane, and mandrake. Most parts of the plants are toxic, and datura has a long history of use for causing delirious states and death. It was well known as an essential ingredient of potions and witches' brews.
size is 4.25x3.5 inches.
It can be hung by the black ribbon which is attached. The ribbon can be adjusted to whatever height you choose. It can also be used as an ornament. $35
