NO LONGER YOU | How to Train Your Dragon 2
Young Stoick and Gobber (25+), and their canon-age versions (45) - metalhead au
Passed by this today. Uhhh maybe hiccup wasn’t exactly the best character to put on a sign about playing with your kids
Did we not watch the movie
That moment the leader of the beserkers shoots you down and you get lost at sea after your dragon dies then you wash up on an unknown island, but the only thing keeping you alive is that annoying blond who you finally began to grow a soft spot for. Slowly the memories are starting to fade and you don’t even recognize that face, yet it’s the only thing keeping you going.
This is so shit…i gave up halfway through bc i got pissed off at everything jdvdbdbdb..i just missed them
doodles :3
release the doodles i've been saving up! it’s all tuffnut tho
Idk if u take requests but i wanna see a tufflout angst scenario where Snotlout just heartlessly rejects Tuffnut + Ruffnut like defensively glaring at Snotlout as he walks away while she hugs Tuff while he's crying
thank u for ur interesting request! i'm surprised i've left this untouched for so long. btw i rly tried hard but i’m not sure if u like it cause as i continued drawing, the story ended up being completely different from ur idea
i’m sorry if u hate it anyway!
How to train your dragon 3 has an inherently flawed concept. Part 1 - unethical practices and environmental impact
With the live action movie stirring the fandom back up a little I’ve seen a few posts lately talking about some of Httyd 3 flaws, typically blaming the Lightfury for the fault of the film and would like to disagree rather heavily by saying even without her being in the movie at all this is an inherently flawed idea for a film.
This idea that dragons shouldn’t exist within our world because they’re just too pure for us is wrong on so many levels.
You can’t just remove an animal from its natural environment and have everything be perfectly fine
Dragons in the Httyd universe are native species specifically a mix of prey and predator animals with incredible ecological impact. Take the bewilderbeast for example, it is heavily implied throughout the second movie they are directly responsible for the formation of iceburgs and habitats and eco systems that form around them. It’s more than big dragon makes ice burgs. Varka’s bewilderbeast created their entire homeland, whilst regularly leaving the territory to fight and travel alongside her leaving behind iceburgs in its wake. Dragons followed him as their king and alpha, yes but even without the presence of birds or other reptiles or mammals we can see the direct influence he has on the natural environment. He creates an ecological hub in his home with booming plant life that dips directly into the water and through the scene of there being so many fish around he’s quite able to feed hundreds of dragons simply by breathing in and shooting fish out a world has developed around him beyond dragons. By fish likely becoming attracted to his territory through the high agle count and ideal conditions.
He has an affect not only on the vegetation and climate but the formation of other animals populations, yes he was always going to die very few animals make it to die of old age but endangered species or not there were more bewilderbeasts out there. At least 3 with drago’s and the one on Beskserker island and the egg (we know the egg wasn’t Varka’s as she confirms the king was there when she first arrived 20 years ago). 3 other bewilderbeasts that wouldn’t have disappeared all of a sudden even if there eventual extinction had a great affect on the world. Which brings me to my key point here, eventual extinction. By now you’re probably thinking of dinosaurs and how Pangaea (the combined continent before the world began to split apart into multiple planes.) contained not only dinosaurs but many mega species. If mega species removal is so bad then how have we gone millions of years without them and been fine? I mean everyone knows the meator struck down thousands of dinosaur species. The key difference here is eventual extinction.
The important thing about dinosaurs and a large amount of them being whipped out is that they actually died, you didn’t force them out of their homes and territories to their “ancestral home”. They were gone. Just like how snow leopards evolved from an African variant of big cat, you can’t just drop em back into Africa and have everything be fine. They are intelligent creatures with thick, dense fur, and large soft paws adapted to their mountainous homes. Dragons are the same and we know that for a fact because we actually have cave dwelling dragon species like fireworms, cavern crashers and even nightfuryies. Dragons that can be on the surface but actively thrive in there. You cannot say the same for something like the flightmare, a dragon that must spend every day following its agle trail something it can only do under the moonlight to survive.
Forgive my bluntness but you aren’t saving a dragon like that from shit by forcing it underground, you’re condemning it to starvation. Which for a series supposedly about respecting differences and learning to reject the impulse of cruelty to the unknown is pretty damn cruel and spreads a message of inherent human right to determination over all. Which even if for some reason you don’t care that it affects our planet and every animal in it, humans would most definitely be included in that. Time and time again the presence of predators and prey alike being extinct being over-hunted or driven out of their homes due to climate change and human influence affects the world sometimes beyond repair. For a movie made in 2019 they absolutely knew that and should have thought about the message they were sending with that
Part 1 of Httyd 3 is inherently flawed, unethical practices and environmental impact -> part 2 Grimmel
Masterpost
Yes yes yes! This!!!
We see throughout the series, as you have wonderfully described with the Bewilderbeast, OP, how dragons all fulfil specific ecological niches, and, like the Bewilderbeast, may even be keystone species - meaning that whole ecosystems can collapse when they are lost.
The Hidden World may be an incredible place for certain species of dragon. I imagine that most Tidal Class dragons would thrive there. But what about the Timberjack, which lives in forests and soars in wide open skies? Underground forests, with corals instead of plants, do not seem appealing from this perspective. What about dragons that are each other's mortal enemies? Singetails and Skrills? Submarippers and Shellfires? The Hidden World is comparatively much more confined than the ocean. And what about the Buffalord, endemic to one specific island due to its grass being the only thing it can survive on? What about Death Songs, which prey on other dragons? What about-
The list goes on. (Side note - here is a link to a similar post chain about why THW doesn't work in terms of ecology)
But yes, OP, I agree. Eventual extinction is one thing - and caused by a natural disaster/meteor strike, as well. But forcing many species into hiding simultaneously, as in THW, spells ecological disaster. Imagine the consequences for non-dragon species: the fish populations, etc, will be impacted - there could be a population boom which results on overfeeding and depletion of resources, or something like that. Food chains could collapse. Etc.
In the books, dragons left, as well. But by "left", we mean "left human society, slowly and gradually, as each individual dragon pleased". Dragons who were ill-treated or who longed for independence left as soon as they were allowed. Dragons who loved their humans were free to come and go as they liked, and many stayed for the remainder of their human friends' lifetimes. This was more gradual, so would not have had such sudden impacts. There was time to adapt. Additionally, dragons did not all cluster into their "ancestral home" - they returned to the depths of the sea, to the bogs and mountains where few humans trod, to the wildwoods and jungles where they would be safe from prying eyes and selfish human greed. They didn't just jump down a hole in the sea!
To expand on OP's metaphor, the books' disappearance of dragons would be like if we freed big cats from their enclosures in zoos and let them return to their habitats: lions to the savannah, tigers to the jungle, jaguars to the rainforests, snow leopards to the mountains, etc. Cats that liked their surroundings could stay - idk, they might be bonded to a particular zookeeper or something.
But if we located the place where big cats all originated, where their last common ancestor lived, and we transported all the cats to there, that one environment with a limited number of habitats and ecological niches to fill, which most of the cats would not be adapted to? That would be animal cruelty.
tysm for the great reblog! (No worries about the rambling I quiet enjoy it myself as you can probably tell lol.)
I was trying to keep the post kinda slimmed but I 1000% agree it’s way more than the bewilderbeast that has impact. Every dragon in the series does especially those introduced through the shows like the skrill or more expanded elements of gronkels and even Nadders as we actually learn they’re more omnivores than obligate carnivores like the nightfury and probably monstrous nightmares, which makes a lot of sense since they closely resemble birds of paradise and parrots in design and behaviour which are insectivores and foragers. Every dragon has impact.
Could you remove one or two from their environment and care for them properly? Of course the series very well proves that, the main 6’s dragons are able to survive and thrive across different territories and environments (though its important to note that the edge’s climate and habitat closely resembles that of berk) proving their ability to adept but you could not do the same for every dragon. Because they aren’t able or willing to leave. The hidden world cannot support them, their environment’s ecosystem would damaged and you’re throwing prey and predator together in a confined space. Whilst it was through the “power of love” Toothless proves that an alpha’s authority is not absolute, and can be challenged by extreme will kinda like being in a situation in which you’re only source of known food in this new environment now only stands between you and starvation. Toothless as an alpha cannot protect all dragons because they choose to follow him as is but even if they automatically felt his “power as an alpha” its very likely they can overcome it.
Its just cruel to force this kinda thing because you can’t, animals are not human. You can’t just move and reintegrate in a new area and country different from your own. They have neither the capacity to understand or survive

Losing their dragons was hard on all the riders, but it hit Snotlout and Tuffnut especially hard. Not only in losing their dearest friends, but also in losing their freedom. The expectations to take their place within the tribe, to find careers, purpose and even love, weigh heavier than ever before as it seems everything and one around them reminds them that their time to ponder is over.
So when a harrowing mission arises to set sail across the seas and bring word to their allies, both men find themselves saying “I’ll go”, at first as nothing more than escapeism, and yet as they venture out into this new dawn, the two find much more than escape out in the unknown.
