Summary: HADES AND PERSEPHONE AU | You kidnap Peter in order to make him love you but you end up scaring him off and making him hate you. As time goes on, however, he starts to develop feelings for you before he could be snatched away back on Earth.
A/N: I got carried away so this is very different from the actual myth oOPS
“I should have never taken you here.”
The Underworld was usually pretty cold, but with every word you spoke, it felt like you were being showered with ice and sorrow. It was a mistake, tricking him into the world of despair, taking him away from his home just to trap him in your little world. But you did it anyway.
“You would never love me.”
Peter continued squeezing his eyes, despite the feeling of comfort that radiated from you. He didn’t want you to know that he was listening to your silent cries as he faked being asleep.
“I’m sorry… No matter what I do, you’ll never feel comfortable enough to call this your home. I’m sorry that I caused you this much pain. Maybe I should have tried to win you over. Flowers would have been great, right? But let’s be real, You would never love a monster like me…”
The dread in your voice almost made Peter’s eyes water. He knew that his screaming and his crying would reach the Earth at some point, maybe get one of the gods to let him out. But it only made you feel horrible. He would stay in his room for days and weeks without coming out.
Sometimes you would fall asleep in front of his door and wake up with a blanket on your body, which made you feel less pain when it came to him.
But he would have never, even in a million years, imagined that you would feel this guilty for trapping him. There was no way you could force him to love you. But the more time he spent locked in the room, the more he realised that he wants to spend time with you. He got to know you with each and every story you told when you waited outside in the dark while he stayed on his bed in the lightest room in The Underworld. He would face away from the door and pretend that you weren’t there but as time went on, he imagined that you were right next to him - telling him everything you wanted. Just like you were right now.
Suddenly, Peter’s soft voice rang in the bedroom.
“You aren’t a monster, (Y/N)”
Your eyes widened when you realized that he heard everything you said for the past thirty minutes. For once did you let yourself in the room, tired of waiting, and this ends up happening.
“But you hate me, I know you do.”
Peter rested on his elbows when he took your full appearance in. You wore the usual black royal clothes, but your crown was missing. Your hair was a mess and tears were streaming down your cheeks.
“I can learn not to… If you let me.”
His doe eyes fell on your scared hands. For some reason, he wanted to hold them for as long as he possibly could. He fully got up and reached for them. He was warm, warmer than anything in The Underworld, and that amazed you more than anything.
“What are you talking about?”
He reached to wipe out the tears. His cheeks were bright red and his eyes were filled with life, unlike yours.
You were polar opposites.
He was the god of springtime. Maybe that’s why his lips were as red as roses and poppies. His eyes as shiny as the stars on an April evening. His curls just like the waves on a river. He was the pure definition of art.
And here you were, with bags under your eyes. Always wearing black. Being feared by humanity. Being feared by the gods. Having to wear the crown of the dead every day. Having to watch the souls of the deceased swim around with their last hope. Having to hear their screams. It seemed as though, you were incapable of love. But that wasn’t true.
“Give me a chance to fall in love. Don’t force me.”
He smiled weakly and right then and there, you knew, that you would give him as much time as you possibly could in order to call him yours. Even if it meant waiting for the end of eternity. You would do everything.
You two became inseparable and Peter had to admit that you were quickly growing on him. With every day, it became more and more obvious that he loved you.
You sighed in relief as you finally reached the river. Peter was panting right next to you, tired from all the climbing you ended up doing.
“Pete, you’re going to love this”
Finally, he looked up and gasped. The river was so beautiful, it didn’t look like it belonged to The Underworld in the first place. The water glowed in the mixture of purple, blue and a hint of pink. Water dripped in all sides as it aluminated the rocks around it.
“It’s beautiful!” he almost shouted. You could sense his excitement from a mile away.
You turned to face him but he was still mesmerised by the beauty around him. You felt something you’ve never felt before as you watched the colours bouncing on his face, his mouth wide open in awe as he looked around, his hair slightly waving. Heart racing and a weird sense of comfort in your chest, you replied quietly:
A smile crept over your face as he kneeled down to touch the water with his gentle hands. “Does it have a name? What is it called?”
His fingers lightly tapped the water before he pulled them back. A drop from his fingertip fell on the ground right beside him and flowers started to bloom in an instant. You kneeled right beside him just as he chuckled at his accidental creation.
“You amaze me, Peter Parker.” you said as you tenderly intertwined your fingers with his. He locked his eyes with yours, and you saw a hint of red on his sides. “How can you turn a drop from the river of hatred into beautiful flowers?”
He didn’t reply because he was too busy playing with your fingers.
“It’s what I was born for…” he replied with a hint of sadness in his voice. Your face softened, if that was even possible. Before you can stop yourself, you slightly leaned in towards him. Peter didn’t flinch and you didn’t expect it, but he copied your actions. You were a hair away from his lips when suddenly, you froze.
The guilt washed over you and you got back on your feet, leaving a very confused Peter back on the ground.
“We…We should probably head back. We’ll be back here, I promise.”
“Did I do something wrong?” he asked, worried. You gave him a weak smile in response.
“It’s all my fault, not yours.”
When both of you returned, you were surprised to find Clint Barton in your ballroom. The confusion was evident on your face as you sat on your beloved throne to listen to him.
“Do you know what you caused, (Y/N)?”
Your eyes widened in surprise but you tried to keep your cool. Slowly shaking your head, you waited for him to continue.
“You took Tony’s kid. He’s so upset, that humanity is dying because of it."
Clint didn’t sound mad or angry in the slightest, but the seriousness of his tone gave you an unspoken reassurance that he was completely serious.
"He’s been looking for him everywhere and he completely abandoned his duties. Everything and everyone is dying. Humans can’t feed off of fruits because there aren’t any. The Earth is cold and lifeless, (Y/N). If you don’t return Peter back, everything will extinguish at once.”
Your eyes fell on Peter, his face was a mixture of weakness and grief. To your surprise, he ran towards your throne and fell on his knees in front of you, reaching to grab your hands.
“I don’t wanna go, please! I don’t wanna go!”
You smoothened his hair in order to calm him down, but your tears started falling as well.
“Pete.” you quietly whispered in his ear as he calmed down. Your voice barely above a whisper as you spill your soul in your words yet again. “I shouldn’t have taken you. It’s all my fault.”
“You’ll be alone if I leave!”
“I’m used to loneliness, love. I knew I couldn’t keep you here forever. You need to go.”
“But I want to stay here…with you! I love you, (Y/N)!”
You pulled him away in shock and looked at his face as if to confirm that he was joking or pretending.
In fact, you’ve never seen him so serious and troubled before.
He started weeping even harder as he rapidly nodded his head, clinging onto you while resting his head on your knees.
“Tony is never going to let me down here with you again!”
You rested your head on top of his in an attempt to calm him but an idea popped into your head.
“The pomegranate.” you murmured to yourself. Peter looked at you with the exact same idea in his pretty head.
Clint, who was watching everything unfold from afar, suddenly chuckled. “If one eats the food given to them by their captor, they would always return. Smart, you sneaky bastards.”
You jumped from your seat with Peter on your heels as you opened the grand door. You walked out and into the garden that Peter started to stay occupied. There surely must be pomegranate somewhere in there.
Beautiful trees hanged left and right with vines hanging loosely on them. Little butterflies flew in circles around the plants and everything seemed exactly like you would imagine Peter’s soul to look like. Pure, bright and colourfull.
The red and orange colours of The Underworld skies lightened everything around, including both of you as you desperately searched for the fruit. Falling on your knees, you began to dig around in the dirt while lifting leaves. Your hand finally found the red-leathery-skinned berry and you screamed in happiness.
Peter jogged towards you as you split the fruit in half and handed to him six perfectly shaped seeds. Carefully, he launched all six in his mouth and made eye contact with you as he chewed on them. The cold breeze danced past you as you both sat in comfortable silence. It seemed as though all the screams of the souls were quiet and watching at the interaction.
You took a step closer and so did he.
You wanted to reassure him that everything was going to be alright but you really weren’t sure about that. You would have never thought that Tony would go as far in grief as to destroy everything alive there was.
Now knowing that Peter loved you back, and was genuine about it, you tried to form words as to express how you felt. But before you could open your mouth to speak, he pressed his lips against yours.
You stayed still for a few seconds before your hands found his soft hair. Peter was right in front of you right now but you already missed him.
It felt almost electric as he pulled away and looked down at the ground in embarrassment.
“I’ve been meaning to do that for a while…”
You giggled at his adorable statement as you brushed a curl away of his forehead.
“I’ll be back. I promise,” he stated.
“And I promise you that no matter what anyone does, we’ll be together, again."
