@scout-scagliotti
Hey! It’s been a while, how are you?
Um I'm sorry, you must be mistaken...? I don't recall you.
Hmm… Somehow you don’t seem all that typical though.
I'm not typical know.
I'm far from it.
A book?
I read. I read all the time.
Yeah, it was kind of nice in school to not have to share my name. I mean, we could have some out of this world horrible name
That was probably cool, I was homeschooled. Exactly, I could have been named Medusa. Although I think that would probably help me from having weird men talking to me.
Well, thank you. I don’t think I’ve ever met a Scout either.
It's not super common I don't think. To be honest, I have no idea why my parents picked that name for me but I guess it's better than a lot of other names.
I’ll stick to Scout. I’m Colette, nice to meet you.
It's nice to meet you as well. Your name is very awesome, I've never met a Colette before.
I haven’t seen it anywhere else.
That's still a very good start.
I’ll keep an eye out for it. Who do I ask for if I find it?
Scout, I'm uh Scout. I mean you could ask for Miss Scagliotti, but everyone just calls me Scout so that should do the trick.
I saw … a book lying on a table in that coffee shop on the corner. Did you visit there today?
Um...I don't think so, not today. I'm not really 100% on that though, it's been a very very long day so I suppose checking there wouldn't hurt.
I haven’t actually, but what was it? I can let you know if I find it.
Oh right, of course. It's called Broken Glass Park. I'd very much appreciate it if you did happen to find it.
What book was it?
Um it's called Broken Glass Park. I just got it in the mail yesterday.
I'm sorry to bother you but did you by chance happen to find a book anywhere around here? I'm not really sure where I dropped it so it's more than alright if you haven't seen it.
April just wanted the tethering to be over - the hospital was bleak and porcelain clean, a constant reminder of those last few months, especially when she passed by rooms and heard the taunting beeps of those surviving their last days. It was the earliest part of the day, when the halls were ghostly and empty, and she felt comfortable to roam freely. She’d have to remind herself to stay hidden, but her anxious mind, begging the clock to move forward and free her from his place, sometimes forgot. This dawned on her as she crossed paths with a woman, a woman who spoke right at her—- meaning she could see the dead girl. With wide eyes, April flushed and stepped back, “O-oh! Uh, no, I…. I’m, um… visiting.” She rolled her eyes at the lie, but built up on it, “I know visiting hours ended a long time ago, but I fell asleep. I was getting my, uh, grandpa some… food.”
"The cafeteria isn't down this hall, I'm afraid. You're probably just better off trying to go past reception and getting to it from there, there shouldn't be anyone up there yet so you won't get caught. I'm sorry to hear about your grandpa though...sweet of you to come visit him." Scout's eyes didn't meet April's gaze as she talked, but instead fell to the ground. She almost felt like she shouldn't have said anything at all, but it had mainly been done in an attempt to keep them from running into each other. The idea of being touched by anyone, even on accident, made her queasy. It wasn't that easy for her to work at the hospital, even if it wasn't a bad job. "The staff vending machines are pretty good though and just down the hall if you were looking for that kind of stuff though."
Walking through the too brightly lit white halls of the hospital, Scout gripped tightly to her coffee mug in one hand and dog leash in the other. It was early, too early for the lights to be this bright and too early for her to be able to function. Her schedule demanded one hell of an early morning out of her that week, so she shuffled down the halls with heavy feet and tired eyes. Though her body longed for bed, her mind struggled to wake itself up. Finally looking up as she continued to walk, she stopped suddenly as she realized she wasn't alone. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you there. Are you lost?"
