Back in the days of his band, SJ spent a lot of time on tumblr and internet groups in general. When he first got into law school, he and Amber decided they needed to do something on the weekends and during the summer. Something to relax, something they both enjoyed. It happened to be that they could both sing and play instruments, so after finding three other members for their band, they were officially Twin Telepathy. A pop rock/alternative band with SJ as the lead singer. They did a tour one summer, but it wasnāt long before the band was put to rest because SJ and his sister were both buried in law school. However, he was still a musician. That would always be a part of him. Even after the band split up, SJ continued to join online groups. Some talked about life, some talked about music, and along the way he had met Scout. Their connection was pretty much instant online. Online friends were something SJ had always had, whether it was study buddies or friends heād met all over the world and was keeping up with.Ā
He and Scout had been planning for so long to finally meet, but things kept getting in the way. In May, he was in the car accident that killed his twin sister, and also severely damaged his back. Within two weeks he had up and moved his entire life to London where his aunt, uncle, cousin, brother and nephew lived. He was crashing on his cousinās couch, and since he got there in May it had been one thing after another about why he and Scout couldnāt meet. SJ didnāt mean to blow her off, his life had just fallen apart. She knew about the car accident and how Amber died and he had back surgery, but when he developed the eating disorder he didnāt tell her. So when he suddenly stopped replying to her messages after he was admitted into impatient, he knew she would once again think she was blowing him off. Once he got out of the hospital, he sent Scout a message along with an apology for not being able to contact her. He kept it brief, saying heād had a medical issue and couldnāt have his phone while in the hospital. To make up for all of their failed meetings, he had asked the woman to go to a concert with him. Deaf people could enjoy concerts just as much as hearing people, they could feel the music. And to SJ, there was nothing better than being able to feel it. The concert he had invited her to was Paramore, which happened to be his first favorite band when he was younger. His band had done covers of them. His surprise to Scout for having to reschedule their first meeting so many times was a pair of tickets that were front row seats, but he wanted to surprise her in person. SJ got ready, wearing his favorite pair of black ripped jeans along with a plain black shirt with a flannel over it. He had on a black beanie over his messy blonde hair, he pretty much always had a beanie on when going out. He had on his favorite pair of vans, knowing he needed good shoes since theyād be standing for a while. The blonde put on his glasses, needing them to drive but heād take them off later. With that his outfit was complete, and he was ready to go.
The blonde pulled up to the address sheād given him. His heart was racing, he was finally getting to meet her after all this time theyād been friends online, but he was pretty sure Scout was exactly who she said she was and not a catfish. Once he got to the address, he walked up to her door. As soon as she opened it, he grinned from ear to ear, in disbelief that they were finally face to face.Ā āHey!ā He exclaimed, leaning down to hug her. She was a great deal shorter than him, but most women were.Ā āYouāre real! God, itās so good to finally meet you.ā SJ said after pulling away.Ā āAre you ready? I have the tickets.ā ( @scoutbarry )
Scout was a bit of a homebody most of the time which was part of the reason sheād ever met SJ in the first place. She liked to meet people online where the fact that she was deaf made literally no difference to her ability to communicate and understand what others were saying. She didnāt mind it most of the time, she was used to it having been born without hearing ability, in fact she was happy being deaf, but it was nice to not have to jump through hoops in order to have a conversation. She was getting ready in her bathroom, doing her makeup up before he came over. She sported a more alternative style, long blonde locks, dark eye shadow, and dark red lipstick. Once she was finished running a straightener through all of her messy hair, she pulled on a leather jacket over a baggy shirt, accompanied with thigh highs, a studded choker, and combat boots.Ā
Sheād been wanting to meet her online friend for a while now, but the world just wasnāt on their side every time they tried to arrange a meeting. When he moved to London she had thought theyād meet pretty soon afterwards, but alas that just wasnāt in the cards until now. Luckily Scout was a rather relaxed person and not one to take failed plans personally, instead she just focused on her apprenticeship at the tattoo parlor and all the pastries she loved to eat. She knew that when SJ could, and if he wanted to, that they would figure something out and get together - And she was right. She hadnāt been to a concert in years, it wasnāt something she did very often but regardless, she could still feel the beat and bass and tons of concerts had sign language interpreters too, if she did want to know the lyrics. really, she just wanted to go dance and hang out with her friend.
She was just lacing her boots up, occasionally peeking out the window to see if he was there. Once she saw that he was waiting outside her door she grinned back at him through the window and pulled the door open.Ā āHey-oo.ā She laughed when he pulled her into a hug and wrapped her arms around him in return. She pulled away and looked at him as he spoke, giggling a little when he exclaimed that she was real.Ā āYeah, no funny cat fish story for today.ā She joked as she stuffed her hands into the pockets of her jacket. She grinned at him when he asked if she was ready and nodded as she pulled her front door closed and turned the lock.Ā āSo ready, itās been forever since Iāve gone to a concert. Youāre going to dance with me right?ā She asked, smiling as she turned around to face him. She brought her hands upon her hips and tipped her head to the side, narrowing her eyes quizzically at him.Ā āAnyway, mister secretive ⦠When are you going to tell me who weāre seeing?ā
