Previous Chapters

My alarm started to blare making me spring up out of bed. Not that I got much sleep last night, I was up late worrying about my first day at a new school. To save time and be prepared I had planned my outfit, hair and make up but still after getting dressed I felt so insecure. I exited my room with my bag and peeked into Dylan’s but he wasn’t in there. Wow he must be an early bird I thought to myself. Walking into the kitchen I could smell bacon being fried and noticed Pat and my mom were the only ones in the kitchen. Where was he? I was so scared and I didn’t want to walk in alone on my first day, I needed him. “Where is Dylan?” I asked causally. “He left about 20 minutes ago. He had to pick his friends up. Something about it being his turn this year.” Pat said from behind his news paper. I felt a sting. I wish he would have asked me to ride with him. Something felt off. “I’ll drop you off Y/N. I have to be in town at 8 for a meeting.” I thanked Pat and nibbled at my food. I wasn’t that hungry to begin with and now my stomach was all in knots.

We pulled up to the school and I climbed out thanking Pat for the ride. I walked slowly towards the building while looking around at the piles of people all grouped up together. I never felt so awkward in my whole life. I scanned the crowds hoping to spot Dylan or at least one of his friends. But I didn’t see anyone. Reaching into my pocket for my phone I decided to text him. But suddenly I felt a pair of arms wrap around me, I knew it wasn’t Dylan. There was no way he would be so affectionate in public and they didn’t feel anything like his. Yelping in fear I jumped to escape their strong grasp. The culprit then laughed and I recognized the voice. “Tyler what the hell you scared me half to death?!” I yelled while pushing him. “Sorry Y/N I just couldn’t resist, you looked so cute wandering around like a lost puppy. Thought I would wake you up with a little scare.” He said with a huge grin. I couldn’t be mad at him, after all he was a cutie and super nice to me. I definitely needed some company right now. “Well you succeeded! I may need new pants now.” I replied while laughing. “Well I can show you where to change my car is right over here.” The brown eyed boy said while motioning to the parking lot with a wink. “ I thought Dylan picked you up this morning?” I asked confused. “What? No we all drove ourselves. We haven’t car pulled since like sophomore year.” Tyler replied. Why did he tell our parents that he was driving them then? Something wasn’t right. I had a weird gut feeling. “Anyways lets go meet up with the others they are at the tables by the baseball field. Thomas just sent me the text. “ I nodded and followed Tyler to the meeting spot.

As we neared the table where I could see Thomas and Max sitting I spotted Dylan, he had his back turned to us and in front of him stood a girl…she was beautiful. Her smile was plastered to her face and she looked so happy then I noticed where her hands were. Holding Dylan’s. My stomach did 4 flips and I swear it flew into my throat. No wait that wasn’t my actual stomach but the contents that were residing in it. I lunged myself to the side of the grass and just puked. As if I couldn’t be anymore embarrassed the girl with Dylan started laughing and pointing. “Wow looks like someone is off to a bad start. Way to ring in the new school year honey.” Her voice sounded like a rat being strangled. It was annoyingly high pitched and whiney. Both Dylan and Tyler ran to my aid. “Y/N are you okay? What’s wrong?” Tyler asked with genuine concern. Dylan gave me a sad look and his eyes were almost pleading. He knew exactly what was wrong. “I uhm..I’m just really nervous is all. First day shakes I guess.” I spoke up, my voice was hoarse now. Thomas ran over with a bottle of water and handed it to me. “Here love drink this.” I thanked him and took a few sips, it helped a lot. “You know her Dyl?” The girl asked in shock. “Yeah this is my step sister. Y/N  this is my girlfriend Bre.” Dylan replied in a cheerful tone but the look on his face was quite the opposite. “Short for Breonna. Cheer captain and soon to be student body president. I had no idea Dylan had a step sister!” She was so fake it made me sick. Everything about her was terrible. The jealousy was probably getting the best of me but still wow. He could do so much better. “And I had no idea he had a girlfriend. Nice to meet you Bre.” I replied with a fake smile. “Breonna please. Bre is only for close friends.” Ouch she was a bigger bitch than I thought. The tension was now so thick it could have been cut with a knife. “Okay now that you two have met I think its time I take Y/N to get her schedule.” Dylan said. “Babe do you have to? I haven’t seen you all summer, I want to spend as much time together as possible. “ Bre whined while tugging on Dylan’s arm. He pulled away and told her it wouldn’t take him long and he would see her in 2nd period. I waved to the rest of the group and began to walk away as fast as I could, Dylan quickly caught up to me. “Do you even know where the office is?” He asked. “Uhm yeah my mom and I were just here the other day for registration. I don’t think I need your assistance now.  I needed you this morning when I was walking in nervous but wait you left early without me. Besides Bre looks pretty helpless back there without you Dyl.” I spat back, each word laced with venom. “Y/N if you could just give me a minute I can explain myself. Please.” He pleaded. I stopped dead in my tracks, tears were starting to fill my eyes. “No…how could you even begin to explain yourself Dylan. I am so pissed and hurt. You lied to me. Lead me on and I am stupid for falling for it. Falling for you. Your stupid smile, those stupid honey colored eyes, your stupid perfect voice and…and…I am such a fucking idiot. I’m just your step sister remember? Now leave me alone!” I screamed and covered my eyes with my jacket sleeve to catch my fountain of tears. Dylan then grabbed my face and kissed me so hard I couldn’t breathe. He pulled away and that’s when I noticed we were alone in a corridor. “I’m sorry. I should have told you. Please forgive me. Just think about it okay? When you calm down I will explain myself. Just give me the chance to make it right.” His voice was cracking, I could tell he was about to cry. “You can make it right by breaking up with her. Right now.” I replied while sniffling and trying to calm myself down. “Y/N I can’t right now but…” I cut him off before he could finish. “You never will then. If not right now then you won’t. Go back to your cheer captain miss perfect little Breonna. I’m done. I have to get my schedule and try to find my first class. Bye Dylan.” I ended the conversation and stomped off towards the double doors.

After stopping by the office and waiting forever to have my schedule printed I made my way down the hall to room 202, 1st period Civics. I opened the door realizing I was late but the teacher didn’t seem to mind. She was on her cell phone texting away. I looked around the room for a seat and noticed Bre was in this class. Great. She was sitting with a group of popular looking girls. Then a waving hand caught my attention. Tyler. Yes thank god I knew someone in here. “Hey omg I’m so glad to see you.” I said while sitting down next to him. “I’m flattered Y/N. I’m always happy to see you too!” He said back while fanning himself. “You are a real treat. I swear.” I spoke and looked to see Bre staring in our direction. She was whispering to her friend. I’ll give them something to talk about. I then placed my hand on Tyler’s arm. “I didn’t get the chance to thank you this morning.” He looked confused. “For what?” “Well for walking me in, I was freaking out because I couldn’t find anyone. Then for helping when I got sick. I was so embarrassed. “ He started blushing at my words and when he realized where my hand was. “ It was no problem at all Y/N. I will walk you in and to class every morning if you want? I would be honored to have the hot new girl by my side.” He said proudly. “Hot new girl? Now who started that nasty lie. I am far from hot Tyler.” His eyes widened at my words. “No way, you are the literal definition of hot. My dream girl actually. I know a few other guys who think so too. Well Thomas and Max do. Hell Dylan gave us the no dating my step sister speech the other day at practice.” I couldn’t believe my ears. “Well tell Dylan he has no say in who I can and cannot date. I’m not his property. “ I spoke seductively and bit my lip. Tyler was now squirming in his seat. “Well if that’s the case would you be my date for the back to school bash? Its at Thomas’s house this weekend at 7. Everyone will be there and I promise not to disappoint. I’m a good time, or so I’ve been told.” Tyler said with his now signature wink. “I would love to, pick me up at my place at exactly 6:45 and don’t be late.” I said seductively. “I will be there at 6:30 then. We could leave a little early and have our own party before going to Thomas’s.” His voice was dripping with seduction. This boy was beyond eager. “It’s a date then.” I said then I gave him a peck on the cheek. That really set Bre and her friend off apparently. Tyler was blushing even harder and grinning, I must have made his day. “You are dead.” Bre mouthed over to me, her friend was now giving me a death glare. Oops did her side kick have a thing for Tyler? My bad. “I’m just getting started.” I replied back while rubbing down Tyler’s arm. He had his back turned to the girls and had no idea what was even happening. They both flipped me off and I simply waved back. I haven’t even been in this school 2 hours and already I have made friends, enemies, an ex and a now a new boyfriend. I just stepped into a new game and I aim to win.
